FUCK THIS GAY EARTH

As I suspected, I can clear most of Act 3 with no issue.  Also as I feared, Ghom rapes me no matter what.

7 sided strike is really powerful now. It can take an elite mob down to half health before I lay my first lick down. Magda was a pussy and Belial couldn't hold my jock. Neither of them dropped anything useful either. :fbm

Jay Wilson talks Brevik-gate and D3 in general:

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6398870250?page=1

My gut impression is, like I said earlier, that this patch helps but doesn't do enough with items.  If you get a wand, it shouldn't be able to roll str or dex before it rolls int.  Same with a hand crossbow or mighty weapon or fist for a monk.  Make class restricted items like this less RNG, plz.

Used some of the proceeds from the mediocre-good rares I've sold in the past few days to get my first real upgrade in forever.  Finally got a better source, I'm now just under 50k with all my buffs AND I'm getting 9 arcane power per crit, which considering that my crit rate is 40.5% is often :D

Finally got a bad ass legendary... Fire Walker boots with 160 str, 170ish vit, 12% move speed, 4% melee reduction and about 170 bonus armor.  If they had all resist instead of the 40 or so fire resist they have, I could have sold the fuckers for over 100mil.  As is, I put them on the gold AH for 50mil.  They really are the best barb firewalkers up there right now so I expect to be virtually rich later today.

Played some Act 3 with Treesong earlier.  If you can at all, PLAY ACT 3 TO FARM FOR GEAR.  Treesong got a ridonkulous legendary Monk helm and a couple of awesome weapons, I got a pair of gloves with 200 dex, 70 all resist, 30 cold resist and like 38% critical damage.  Act 3 was also where I got those Fire Walkers yesterday.  You don't even need any extra MF above what you have from NV and paragon levels.  The drops are just really good.

Bringing my total gold to 4.2 million. :-[ :shh

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Brought my armor up to 5k and my resists up to 500-600 apiece, plus about 50% more Magic Find. It cost me about 3k DPS so I'm back down to 27k. Still have 2 million left in the bank so it was pretty smart shopping. A Monk Helm saved my life last night. 8)

I had to settle for selling those Fire Walkers for a measly 10 million  :-\

I then promptly used half of it to buy a better piece of chest armor- this one has 3 sockets, better base INT and 50+ all resists.  I had to sacrifice about 150 regen/second, but whatever.  Still a massive upgrade.

Beat Ghom in Act III. Ghom was a surprisingly good boss fight, first time I've really had to think about strategy; I completely re-specced for the fight to play to Ghoms weaknesses and kite him around the edge of the arena. Act III is still pretty tough though, but I'm fairly confident fighting packs in the first part. Currently specced with a very average monk crit build - 30k DPS, 620 all res, 6150 AR, 25k vit, 26% CC, 220% CD and 20% IAS (1.82 hits per second). Couldn't afford CC/CD rings so I went with the now much cheaper IAS + relevant stats, if I had weapons with better LoH my build would be waaay better.

As it is I die fast against act 3 elites unless I can kill them faster than me so I've kinda relegated myself to solo farming. As soon as I play with friends it becomes a lot tougher due to low survivability.

Oh god what am I doing here I am not good at the melee

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Triumph-1211/hero/8925444

Got bored of Wizarding and used my bank (around 5 million) to kit out my barb with a new main hand, gloves, bracers, belt and chest piece.  Now I can haz whilrlwind plz.  Farted around with it for about a half an hour at the beginning of Act 1 and even with my shitty armor/resists/life I still cut through everything with no problem.

I used this informative guide if anyone is interested in a Whirlwind build and hasn't actually tried it yet:

It's pretty informative and thorough.  I'm about -200 on vit, -5k on life, shitty crit chance and all resists.  It's fun to play, and is a good diversion when I'm not wizarding and while waiting for Torchlight 2/Borderlands 2.

I unfortunately have become adept at converting in game gold to money.

Every item I see on the auction house is now rendered in dollars rather than gold when I look at it even on the gold auction house. My brain does the conversion and I just can't spend money to get anything.

Then again I've made $700 or so off the RMAH or flipping items on the gold auction house then selling either gold or a item that sells quickly on the RMAH.

Now I just log in every 2 days when auctions have cleared and use my rolling 80-100 million gold fund to fuel my item flipping for about 20-30 minutes.

I haven't logged in to play for a long ass time :/

Due to the bugged legendaries, botters can now run act 3 which is driving the market down FAST. Gold peaked 2 days ago and has been following it south as people quit or have less need of gold due to the prices being driven down on the Gold auction house.

I found a Legendary Axe (Burning Axe of Sankis) on the AH for 700k - a bit less DPS, but +500 LoH. However, with +30% Fire damage, I respecced my skills to Fire and have not really had a problem. Plus, it casts Ignore Pain from time to time... Is really helping my survivability.

My overall DPS went up 4.5k. It's total BEAST MODE. Can't wait to play with Creepy Old Guy so we can faceroll elites. (Seriously, A1+2 Inferno mobs are just SPAM SPAM SPAM dead)

Also- Act II farming is pretty dope.  You can just do Forgotten Cave or whatever it is, Vault of the Assassin, and then all the shit in the Terminus for quick and easy elite kills and the drop percentage isn't that much worse than Act III, plus you mow through it way quicker since the elites are weaker.

The only time I can run into those idiot bee things is when I'm running around trying to find the Cave of the Betrayer and Vault of the Assassin in the overworld, so I usually just run away if they have any sort of jailer/frozen/waller affix, because fuck that.  Vault of the Assassin is so quality- it averages 7-8 elite/champions for me and they're all pretty much pushovers.

Why hello thar 1.0.5 sneak preview.  Seems like just yesterday 1.0.4 hit with all of it's deliciousness.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/7155880/Patch_105_Sneak_Peek-9_13_2012

Quote
Defensive Skill Changes

In our eternal quest to promote build diversity; we’ll be making changes to defensive skills across the board while simultaneously reducing incoming damage. The net result is a survivability buff for players, and an increase in build options as defensive abilities become less “mandatory.”

New Event: Infernal Machine

The Infernal Machine is a device that will allow level-60 players to battle “uber” versions of some of Sanctuary’s most nefarious bosses. While the rewards for defeating these bosses will be great, some assembly is required.

New System: Monster Power

Similar to the “Players 8” command in Diablo II, the Monster Power system is designed to give players more control over how challenging enemies are in each difficulty.

Oooooh, what's that?  Looks like the Infernal Machine is gonna give some endgame stuff to do other than farming.  My guess is the "some assembly required" caveat means you'll need to build it via drops like the Staff of Herding.  Players 8 equivalent is good news too.

New Dev Journal up

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/7155884/Dev_Journal_Defensive_Bonuses_and_Monster_Damage-9_14_2012

tl;dr version- some popular defensive skills are being nerfed, BUT at the same time they're nerfing incoming monster damage by 25% in Inferno... a future diary will go over the new "monster power" option, which is basically a reworking of D2's "players x" option that will allow those who want to have a tougher go of it to scale difficulty, I'm guessing.  Hopefully more MF/better lewt is the reward for that.

Some highlights:

-Wizards: Energy Armor increase reduced from 65 to 35%; Prismatic Armor rune reduced from 40 to 25% resistance buff.  On a personal level this doesn't bug me too much even though my Wizard has high armor/resistances for a wizard and benefits from those skills.  The 25% damage reduction will more than offset this; I expect to be able to work in a few pieces of my MF gear honestly.

-Monks: most importantly, they're not fucking with One With Everything... yet.  They want to but are trying to figure out how to do it without fucking over gear choices monks have made over the character's lifetime. Resolve drops from 25 to 20% dmg reduction; Seize the Initiative drops to a 50% Dex bonus to armor.

-WD: Jungle Fortitude drops from 20 to 15% dmg reduction.

-DH: a lot of bullshit that I didn't understand, DH's should click the link and read it

-Barb:  HOLY SHIT.  War Cry Impunity Resistance buff dropped from 50 to 20%; sell your WW it's all over.  Leap: Iron Impact will also now only provide 100% armor per enemy hit for 3 seconds, down from a base 300% buff for 4 seconds.  The War Cry nerf seems the most extreme to me; what's your initial thought, PD?

I've been playing with Cohen over lunch quite a bit the last two weeks. I'm at 45k DPS + 5000 Armor + 550+ Resist All on my Witch Doctor. We can farm the first half of Act III pretty easily. The second half is okay in a group of 3 or 4.

I want to try to finish Inferno but HOLY SHIT do you need a good group of 4 to polish off the end of Act IV. Any other Boritos almost to the end of A4 Inferno? We should set a time and finish up this bitch.

I wound up accidentally pulling an elite and two champion groups - didn't notice any major difference in the amount of dmg mitigated by War Cry. Really the only thing I noticed is that those flying enemies that shoot Banelings (in Act 2) seem to do more damage to me now, but that's it.

I've been testing out the Templar in Act 2 and oh boy, I need to go back to the Enchantress lol. He just stands in poison and dies haha

Just the whole single player first playthrough experience in D3 is totally botched and devoid of any challenge or tension.

This becomes very apparent when playing games like B2 or TL2 which arent afraid to kill you.

On the topic of the 1.0.5 PTR, it's a complete and total fiasco.  It went live Friday, got taken down over the weekend, went back live yesterday, and now as soon as you log in you get disconnected.  I know this is sort of a 1.0.5 beta but FOR FUCKS SAKES BLIZZARD.  Quit jerking off your pandas and fix this shit so I can at least experience jankiness AS I'M PLAYING as opposed to TRYING TO BE ABLE TO PLAY.

Meanwhile, TL2, etc etc.

Yeah, TL2 is fun, but to pretend it's harder than Diablo III is :teehee followed by :maf

And I guess it has "better" itemization when measured in raw numeric stat budget per item slot.

Like I said in the TL2 thread, D3 is the better game but TL2 is pleasing in different ways... it rewards you more for just showing up and hanging out as opposed to trying and putting effort into it.  It's like a girlfriend who always tries to please you vs. one that will challenge you... while fun for a while, eventually you're gonna get bored with girl number one.

This is just my opinion on about half a playthrough of TL2.  It could change on game+ but I doubt it.  The core gameplay of D3 is so good that as more content is released, I will keep coming back to it and catassing the absolute shit out of it.  I will probably play TL2 for a while as well but it's just not as rewarding imo.

wow, I came up with the EXACT same analogy yesterday - TL2 is the girlfriend who is always telling you how awesome you are. yeah, it's nice at first, but eventually you realize it's just empty platitudes ... and that she probably says this to all the guys.

I find it funny that the plot of TL2 is EXACTLY the same as the plot of Diablo II, down to the crazy retcon of the first game's protagonist
