I don't know how people who came into RoS gold poor are feasibly going to make it into a serious endgame :(

The top two tiers of gems offer a HUGE increase for main stats, and they're expensive as all fuck to craft. Mystic prices get up there too.

Death's Breaths aren't a big deal- do a bunch of rifts, which are FULL of elites.  I got 8 off one run last night, which was lucky but still.

"Not long after you hit 70 your char will be in all very good Rares, thanks to gambling, high drop rates, and Enchanting. And at that point you hit something of a plateau, where you find constant rares but never any that are more than like .1% better, and only that if you spend a few 100k to get a perfect roll on some enchant. At that point you really only care about finding legendaries, ideally the Torment-only ones, and gambling is horrible odds for any leg and zero odds for Torment+ legs… which means it’s kind of useless for well-geared chars."

man I do love Diablo and I hate to be "that guy" but ... I'm getting kind of bored :(

I tried Torment and did two bounties - I *can* survive, but killing things takes years and years. So I went back to Normal and since I'm so OP I made a spirit regen Tempest Rush build. Now I just hold down the right-mouse button and run around in circles while Sweeping Wind procs. My farming time has nearly doubled but with nothing but a legendary leading to a major improvement, it's hard to feel the motivation to keep trying...

As much as the AH circumvented the game (and it did) it also gave you a chance to keep advancing at those highest levels...

Welcome to the WW barb experience. I did that for - you know what, let's not do this. :stahp

You have to grind one way or another. If you play the gear-perfection game you grind, there's no way around it. With the AH you had to find and sell big ticket items or buy low and sell high. And without economy resets it only got worse as prices inflated, so it didn't really end up being a shortcut, it just put a number to how long you had to grind.
Unless of course you were willing to pay real money, at which point you were paying to be bored sooner, which is - rational, actually, considering times is more valuable and you were going to be bored one way or another, but it was also kind of devious. Now you had to pay for RoS too, but you got a lot more than a couple of BiS items out of it.
Take a break, or play the game differently. I'm sure they're already working on the next expansion and if they're smart it'll do a lot more than add a couple of digits to every number. :V

I'm interested in where they're going with ladders/seasons, but I can definitely feel you on that, Treesong.

For me, incremental grinding is and always has been a weird labor of love. I freely acknowledge that I'm an outlier on this, but whatevs- special fellow's gotta special fellow and all that. I like setting small goals and then working towards them- "get to x amount of dps in y amount of time, upgrade two gems today" etc. For a lot of people that can be seen as too much like "work" but I dig it.

I think overall the game is in a really nice place, but it seems like it's taking too long to get from "can do expert ok" to "can kill elites in a reasonable period of time on Torment I" and some people will probably stop playing for a bit because of that. Which I can totally understand but again- I'm hooked. I'm actually pissed that I have a bunch of work and school related BS and haven't been able to play that much this weekend.

That's a neat trick, but ultimately they should just buff the fuck out of gold drops starting on Torment I, which isn't that hard to gear for. They've demonstrated they hate "exploits" like that so it will get nerfed, but there's literally no reason NOT to buff gold drop rate now- it's account bound, higher tier gems are account bound, people who saved a bunch of gold going into RoS aren't gonna give a shit, and the gold poors will only be happy to be able to more efficiently farm gold.

I swear they don't think some shit through- adding in the mystic and making her expensive is a boneheaded move. It's like they think, "oh people will just use her SOMETIMES!"  No. Fuck no. I want to use her ALL THE GODDMAN TIME FOR EVERY PIECE OF GEAR THAT MIGHT BE USABLE.

I talked about it a bit with Frag last night. Basically, I feel like in the old system you were grinding for lottery tickets, and in the new one you're grinding for $3.75/hr. You were never going to actually come out ahead in the old way. But just the POSSIBILITY of a perfect drop you could flip for 50 million gold was a big motivator. That chance is gone, now.

I sort of agree, but as I said I don't really mind that grinding for incremental upgrade thing. Also, I haven't really been able to fuck with Torment farming too much yet, but it's coming- my DH is pretty much there, and once I'm able to farm it efficiently I'm interested in how much the increased legendary drop rate results in legendaries dropping.

I mean shit, the 1h xbow that dropped for me the other day looks comparable if not better than most of the shit people are showing off in the DH forum's "show off your bow" thread, so who knows.

Further aside- I've gotten shitty from playing with top tier gear on high difficulties leading into RoS.  I can't kite for shit anymore. :(

except making the game not sleep-inducing. I dunno I can't really have as much fun if I'm not playing on Expert or usually Master. It makes fighting elite mobs exhilarating, but I can see how it's not for everyone. Once I'm more properly geared I'll probably go back to Torment.

I just don't understand how to deal with some of the elite or champion mobs as a melee character. When the enemy has a molten effect or  any other kind of AOE I pretty much die instantly since I have to GET RIGHT UP TO THE ENEMY.

Either my entire build is fucked or my gear is fucked or my strats are fucked. I know one problem is my run speed which is pretty slow. But I just don't have any gear that increases it.

First, your skills don't synergize very well. For example, the Momentum passive will really only ever trigger if you have Dashing Strike as an active skill, so you're losing out on something potentially more useful there. Likewise, the Combination Strike passive is useful if you're using multiple spirit generating (primary) attacks, and you're only using Way of the Hundred Fists.

I would suggest these two passives in their place:

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/monk/passive/seize-the-initiative

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/monk/passive/chant-of-resonance

Seize the Initiative will give you a massive survivability boost since you have a lot of Dex. Chant of Resonance is just all around useful to have.

Next, if you're having trouble staying alive, I'd suggest switching up your mantra to either Evasion or Healing instead of Retribution, which requires you to get hit to be useful.

Lastly, why aren't you using a shield or second 1-hander in your offhand?

Those are all things you could do that don't require additional gearing and would help you out immediately. Medium term, I'd suggest looking hard at your skillz and figuring out one class of elemental damage (cold, fire, lightning) to focus on, then stack bonus elemental damage for that type on your bracers/amulet.  I know she's level 60, but look at my monk for an example:

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Triumph-1211/hero/20987076

All of her attacks have the lightning type and benefit from any stacked lightning damage that I can get. This won't show up on your sheet DPS because Blizzard are weirdos, but it WILL make a difference in your gameplay- shit will go down much quicker.

I actually didn't even realize that weapon was a one-hander, lol. It surely doesn't look like one, I assumed it was two handed.

I'll look into the other things. I figured sweeping wind would increase my damage when it reached it's maximum since it's a spirit generator.

Weeeeeird.

Sweeping Wind has an initial spirit cost- the particular rune you're using makes it generate spirit while at it's max potential, but that's not helping you if you're not in combat stomping shit, and it doesn't count as a spirit generator for purposes of the passive- only primary attacks do. Try swapping out that rune for Cyclone.

Looking good to me, Raban. You can mostly do what you want in the game until you get to level 70 and try to up the difficulty anyway. When you hit 66, consider changing your primary wrath generator to Justice and picking up the Blunted passive- it will increase the damage of Justice and Blessed Hammer by 20%, which is nice.

My Crusader is the most recent character I've 70'd now, and she's still a work in progress as far as gearing (I'd like to get her Toughness up to about 8 million before trying Torment 1, my profile doesn't reflect the accurate amount but it's at about 5 million something now).

I find that for increasing your paper Toughness, AR > Armor > Vit. % life also does a good job of boosting the number, but I'm leery of Vit/% life being prioritized over AR and Armor. AR is really, really good too. Try to get it on your gear, and definitely snag the Seize the Initiative- now that there's no AH with easy targeting of a single resistance, it's probably better than One with Everything. If you want to try running Bounties and Rifts with me sometime this weekend, I can run my DH and feed you rares I pick up.

It seems like +AR is more common than +single resist now that the AH is gone, which is nice. Certainly I haven't had any trouble finding it on my gear.

I got a new Paragon Portrait when I hit 110, I thought 100 was still the max. Did they already hotfix in some new ones?

There were/are plans to add more portraits up to P-level 800, I think.

Made some good progress with Frag tonight. I've committed fully to One With Everything, benefit there is that single resists are secondary (freeing up a roll) AND higher numbers. I also got a good helmet and gambled 200 (!) shards for decent shoulders and chest. I need rings and 1-hand weapon legendaries DESPERATELY.

Have Expert on snooze farm and Master is within reason (esp. in a group). Torment still a bit out of reach.

I'm glad to see you using Cyclone Strike- I forgot to mention it the other day, but that skill is SO GOOD. So good.

I've been trying to figure out why my Wizard's toughness is so fucking high with my buffs on, and I realized that I get about 1 all resist for every 10 int... so, yeah. 7k int is pretty good. #wizardsrule

Started playing Adventure with a friend of mine who just bought the game so I'm using my Crusader.

Crusader is boss as fuck! You get a primary attach where you THROW AN ELECTRIC HAMMER AT YOUR ENEMIES.

SHIELDCHICK is a badass: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/thevarangian-1543/hero/45405422

Just got a bunch of items so I was messing around with things. The dagger i got is technically more powerful than the 2 handed flail i was using but the buffs on the flail I kinda like more so I might switch back.

edit: heh, no more than a few minutes after loading back in I found a legendary 2 handed sword that's far and away better than anything I had.

Treesong and I ran some Torment 1 bounties and a rift today. People at 70- I really can't recommend this enough, but get yourself to a point where you can survive in Torment 1. The game is much more rewarding and feels way more fun there.

Quite. It's nice to actually have to pay attention to Elites again, and the improved Death's Breath drop rate/Gold Find are a huge boon, too. Now I just need a quality 70 Leg 1H weapon...
