I'll play the Necro when it comes out- likely by the end of the year, I'm guessing. I sort of fell off around season 8 and haven't been able to get excited since.

RoS story was better than the base story, imo. I'm very into lore and character connections, so playing playing through is exciting, and a good nostalgia trip.

I mean the expansion story was ok (the vanilla D3 story was decidedly not) but after going through it once why bother again? Hundreds of hours ago, I turned off all the voice acting. It wears on you.

Thx for the answers.

I think they kind of do a really poor job of explaining all this stuff to newcomers. But then I guess in numbers I'm in the deep minority as new player versus the people who have been playing for years.

On the bright side, D3 has few features which makes it a lot easier to get into and understand. It's very casual friendly, even if you wanna go semi-high in GRs. Of course you need a little commitment for the high stuff, but it's easy to reach personal goals you feel satisfied with. Very doabloe in the right groups as well, especially gear and mat farming.

Finished the campaign.

That was kinda terrible. For a few different reasons. I played in Season mode. But I played the campaign still and not adventure mode.

So maybe season mode throws the leveling out of whack or something. But I played on the highest difficulty that was available to me which was expert and the game is dumb easy. Once you hit Act 5 you are allowed to up the difficulty and I did to master which still wasn't hard and then torment 1 which feels roughly like normal in just about any other game.

I know the game at this stage in its life isn't really geared towards newbies playing the campaign and it's all about running the season mode stuff but its still weird me that you would let your campaign fall into the state it has either because of power creep I assume or just sort of poor design in a lot of ways.

Whatever...

I'm doing the actual season stuff now which seems more difficult and more fun than the campaign was.

the popular path rn iirc, is adventure mode expert until you get some okayish gear (lv6-10) then you bump to expert and jump around a bit based on your gear

but yes diablo 3 is just not "difficult" until you hit like torment 4-6 where you're running into multiple elite packs with multiple random abilities and they can all nuke if they scratch you. Endgame is all crowd control and damage evasion.

bluddshedd is a good source for builds/commentary and stuff if you want more than just a website list:

Campaign was shit from launch, one of the biggest disappointments about this game imho. D1 was a scary challenge playing the campaign, this is a snoozefest. Even on hardcore.

Campaign is a thing to be endured, preferably only once.

Unless they've changed the difficulties and xp rewards, do adventure mode on hard to start, skip expert to master once you're better geared but still able to kill QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY (taking time to kill shit on scrub levels out of some misplaced notion of I'VE GOT SKILLZ is dumb), then once you've got the first two pieces of your season reward set (I assume you're playing in a season, but they might not be available on consoles yet) up it to Torment I-II depending on what you're able to handle.

Grind. Grind some more. Grind a whole lot more. Grind, grind, grind. If grinding rifts and greater rifts for incremental upgrades is not appealing to you, this is not the game for you. I really can't stress that enough.

I'm fine with the grinding. I'm fine that the focus is more on season mode stuff especially at this late date in the game. I'm fine with the game.

It just kind of shocked me how unbalanced the campaign was. Just as a point of dev pride, you would think they would want to fix that for the people who honestly have no interest in grinding and just want to play a challenging campaign without having to beat it first and then magically find an acceptable difficulty rate.

i replayed the campaign in late 2015 on ps4 and was also pissed at how long it took to get to a real challenge. no reason you shouldn't be able to switch to a torment difficulty from the start, but more than that there's no reason the main game should be so bindingly easy. there was no reason to bother with loot or upgrading or whatever because there was zero strategy involved in playing. I was taking shaka thru and had to keep telling him "trust me, it gets so much better."

iirc the way campaign used to work is you'd be done at around 40 something from then on it would just be a loot grind to get to 60 but also get 60 gear. From there you'd dive into torment stuff.

basically no matter what era you jumped in on D3 the game didn't get "hard" or "challenging" until you well well into the game. Like 8+ hours in.

Pretty much this. You used to have to play through the same content on multiple different difficulties just to get to the "end game" of Inferno.  Which is shitty, regressive game design in 2017, and arguably 2012 when it released.

Diablo hasn't really been "about" the main campaign since the first game, IMO. D2 had a better story, sure, but it was all about boss runs and ladders. D3 is about seasons.

I haven't really played much in the past six months or so. I'll buy the necro pack when it releases and play that season as a necromancer.

I still haven't finished a crusader. I just only like the range characters in this, particularly DH and Wizard. I've got like 4 of each meanwhile every other class sits at 40-50 lvl range.

Got the first set of free Gear set for the season. No doubt this mode is very fun. And its fun to become insanely powerful while the difficulty level still increases.

This honestly also makes me want to play Path of Exile since I know that game also does this kind of thing and is still in development.

Same, and I actually found Crus to be boring. Also I never played a WD, despite sticking around on and off since vanilla (which reminds me, anyone remember when no one wanted to have WDs in their party at the start because of all the animation spam?)

Got up to GR 70 with my demon hunter.

Game is super fun in season mode. I'll probably come back every season to try a different class.

Like I said earlier, also makes me want to try Path of Exile.

Oh, right. The newest Necro Q&A. What a snoozefest. http://www.diablofans.com/news/48897-necromancer-q-a-live-updates

I'd be more excited if they hadn't already tried to replace it with the WD. But I'll still buy it, and hope it'll be a fun class for me.

I'm still salty I never got a Necro beta invite. Been playing this shitty game on and off since launch, my account is like 10 years old, and yet they just sent random invites + to their ~favorite people~.

Either way, it looks cool. Haven't paid a lot of attention since the beta started before people figured out how the class worked. Definitely OP, and will probably be nerfed into another underwhelming class (sup Crusader).

I'll buy it anyway. Need em stash slots. lol

But honestly, I'm more excited for the new Path of Exile expansion than the Necromancer pack. Which I'll still get, just not gonna be day 1ing that shit.

It's probably launching simultaneously with Season 11.

Dunno why they try to hype it up so much when it'll either suck at launch, or get nerfed quickly.

doesn't seem to be a lot of hype to me, I fully expect to wake up on a patch day with some small announcement like "oh hey yeah necro is out uh go buy that i guess"

but yeah, it's def. launching with season 11 and thats gonna be mid/early July (seasons are like 3 months right? and 10 started end of march so)

well actually they could launch it in that week/2 week gap between seasons so end of June but that might throw off seasonal dudes and thats basically everyone who still plays this game so idk

I don't see why they would add a Necropack only area when they're already releasing two new zones in a patch alongside the Necro release. Wish they had done more though. Like giving a free set with the Necro, something alas Haedrig's Gift.
