Still, he had an improved performance overall, so that's definitely a good sign.

He managed to increase his WHIP to 2.21 and you're seeing the positive? I thought only Maple Leaf fans were capable of this kind of rationalization.

No, he was terrible again, he just managed to get out of some tight jams this time. It's okay though, I'm willing to give him some time before I freak out.

This isn't hockey, PD

But Cabrera apparently has looked pretty good at 3B since Opening Day. Maybe their infield defense won't be godawful after all.

Matt Cain and Cliff Lee with competing 9-inning shutouts. Cain should have kept going but he got pinch-hit for. Lee might.

Darvish had his best start so far. 6.1 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, and 5 strike outs. The only real downside to his outing was 5 walks, definitely something he needs to continue working on there.

I've been hearing on the radio that the Tigers are stuck with a horrible second base man (Brandon Inge) and he's totally shitting the bed. Apparently he got booed at home a few days ago, which is weird because not long ago he was one of the most popular Detroit athletes.

We got hosed by the umps on Fielder's phantom infield base hit. Dude was out by a step, but they call him safe, which leads to 2-run homerun that should never have happened. Fortunately, karma favored the M's tonight.

He can't keep it up forever, but it's still pretty impressive that Darvish has gotten better after each start for four games in a row. Certainly not going to turn up my nose at a 8+ inning shutout with only 2 walks against the Stankees.

Dice-K was exceedingly lucky his entire first season.

(But Darvish is much better and I think he will keep it up by maintaining a walk rate in line with yesterday's start.)

Considering what's happened the rest of his career, nah. And I got mixed up, his best year was actually his second year.

But to get back to Darvish, I really don't think he and Dice-K are much alike. I think Darvish just had some control issues in his first few games and it isn't indicative of an annoying nibbler mentality like Dice-K. I expect him to have an ERA around 3.25 this year. I think he's legit.

Detroit Tigers left fielder Delmon Young has been arrested on a hate-crime harassment charge after police say he attacked a group of men and yelled anti-Semitic epithets.

Police say Young was standing outside of the Hilton New York, not far from Times Square. A group of about four Chicago tourists staying there were approached by a panhandler wearing a yarmulke. As the group walked up to the hotel doors, Young started yelling anti-Semitic epithets. Police say it's not clear who he was yelling at, but he got into a tussle with one of the Chicago group, who sustained scratches to his elbows.

The Pirates have scored 42 runs, which is 2.2 per game.

To put that in perspective, all but one NHL team averaged more than 2.3 goals per game.
