trailers get released all the time for games that are eventually cancelled

How often are public betas released for games that will be canceled? This isn't getting canceled. DLC coming isn't a sign of that.

well, we'll see

i have zero faith in anything they show or say after that miserable presentation last night, as oscar said they didn't even mention that they had 30 playable vita games on the show floor

you'll see a brief flash of a vita game or two in their 2013 E3 sizzle reel, and that's as much as the system is ever gonna get from here on

still calling it, totally abandoned and dead by holiday 2013

That is SCEA. LBP is an SCEE franchise, and they don't seem to be as stupid as SCEA is.

Inafune was at E3 too. Why in the world didn't they bring him on stage and talk about the game? I guarantee there are less people in that audience who know about SS than Far Cry 3.

Reason Portal 2 was in that intro is Portal 2 inmotion for Move.  It's move support for all of Portal 2 and new levels that require Move*

*They're recycling the Razer Sixense levels from the PC game.

If it's free, I can get some use out of my PS3 version.

The Vita had a shitty showing but how is that a surprise?  To me, Sony has been wanting to kill off the Vita almost from the get go.  The biggest piece of evidence is their total lack of marketing for the Vita launch campaign in the US.  It's like Sony knew that they had a bomb on their hands and didn't want to dig a deeper hole spending marketing dollars on something they knew wasn't going to take off.

I think what will happen is that the Vita will be canned silently in time for the PS4 launch.  The PR will be something to the effect of Sony wanting to focus all of their resources into making the best experience possible for the PS4.  A shame because it looks like an amazing handheld but it was sent to die.

i think the surprise is how publicly they said "fuck it," especially considering there are evidently a lot of vita games on the e3 show floor

that's a pretty shitty way to treat the few devs and publishers throwing any kind of support, not even rating them important enough to spare a 30 second clip reel or even a throwaway mention - while half an hour gets devoted to eyetoy wagglewand "books"

Beyond is weird.

You play a ghost tethered to Ellen Page.  You can fly around the environment and mess with people by spilling drinks and stuff.  It's like Lifeline mixed with Geist or Ghost Trick.  Everything seems to be real time and there's a limited amount of time to explore the area before it kicks into an event/cutscene.  So these police guys are on the train and you throw a water bottle at Ellen Page to wake up and it seems like the ghost parts are adventure-ish...

then when she's up, you control Ellen Page and it's straight up Heavy Rain QTEs.  And then it switches between them over and over.  As the ghost you can possess other characters and control them, like flying over to a sniper and have him shoot two other guys.

It looks pretty cool.

Did you guys really think Shu would say "Yes, there's a price drop we're going to announce in September" in June? Besides that, Shu works on the software and while I'm sure he knows about the hardware that's not his job.

I do think it's interesting that they did not announce a price point for the Madden and AC bundles. I can see them dropping the core WiFi to $199 and the bundle sticks at $249.

Thanks for the list.

As far as the vita is concerned I really don't understand why Sony doesn't woo in ios developers.  I tried the pinball arcade demo on my vita yesterday and it was pretty damn good.  At first I thought 10 was too much money compared to the iphone versions but considering it comes with 4 tables vs 1 for ios and its not a bad deal.

It was announced as PlayStation Suite on the same day Vita was in January 2011. It's basically an app-store lite, with an open beta currently ongoing. The SDK costs $99 a year.

Not everything on that list is on the show floor (or even still in existence, as with ZOE).

so now i am left wondering what the 25 games on the floor are, since sony sure as fuck didn't tell me

well, it's not *losing* money anymore, i suppose that's something.

multiplat software still sells pretty badly, though.

On average, how much worse do they sell than the x360 versions? I'm a little surprised because I was under the impression that they sold well/decently.

franchises with a strong connection to the Playstation go about 60-40 or 50-50 with 360

everything else is more like 80-20

like i've always said, ps3 owners should be very grateful the 360 is around, because on its own, nobody would develop shit for the ps3.  the wii's third party sales embarrass it, even.

2012 X-mas is going to be 3rd party time in Sony land.  They got nothing on the 1st party front.

Otoh, X360 has Halo 4, Gears, Forza Horizon, Fable Journey, Panzer Kinect + all the same 3rd parties.

Sony's not even competing this fall.

However, it's looking like PS3 will have a very strong final year in 2013.  A repeat of 2011.

I owned RDR on 360 and PS3, and after a few months you could still join full MP Free Roams on 360, while the PS3 offered a much closer experience to traveling on horseback across the real Old West - in that you only saw another person occasionally. This is with free online, and I also believe the PS3 version of RDR was considered to have sold very well.

http://venturebeat.com/2012/06/07/trash-talk-from-sony-game-executive-our-competitors-are-losing-the-plot-interview/
Quote
GamesBeat: What was some of your reaction to some of the other console press conferences here? Especially where it touches on your space, like in digital?

Jack Buser: I think we’ve had a fantastic E3, I’ve watched all of our competitors very closely. And I think we did a very good job of drawing a solid line in the sand here at E3, and standing up with our back straight as PlayStation and saying, we’re for gamers. We are for the gamer first and foremost. Everything we do at PlayStation, we ask ourselves first, what’s right for the gamer? And at our press conference, we really stood up and put both our hands in the air and said, look, we are for gamers first and foremost. The reaction to the press conference has been just amazingly positive. While some of our competitors, seemingly, are losing the plot, forgetting what built this industry. It was the gamer. We remain incredibly focused on the gamer. And our press conference really drove that home. We showed amazing partnerships with our third parties. We showed incredible titles from our first parties. Last of Us, you saw that? Beyond: Two Souls. You see these titles and they represent some of the…. I’m biased, but these are the best games I’ve ever seen, and they’re exclusive to our platform.

Quote
GamesBeat: I guess you didn’t really give an update on the numbers, is there an update on the PSN members…?

Buser: Sure, I can give them to you, here’s the update. We are announcing… Registered PSN accounts, more than 100 million worldwide. PS3, more than 64 million units worldwide. I gave you the stat on games, 1,578 downloadable games since the PSN launched, that’s a lot. Fastest-selling game on PlayStation Network was Journey. Here’s some cool new facts. You saw the press conference, 80 percent of PS3s connected to the internet worldwide, very high. More than 70 percent of PSN members use PSN weekly or more often, so very engagement. Average hours PSN is used per week is 7.1 hours. Very long session durations. We’re seeing extremely high engagement on PlayStation Network. Two-thirds of PlayStation Network members play online multiplayer on PSN weekly or more often, so highly engaged, playing a ton of games
