ZombiU actually sounds pretty neat.  It's basically DayZ-lite / Infinity Blade like.  You play as one survivor until you die, then you start over as another survivor.  As the new survivor you can go back to where your previous survivor died, who is now a zombie, to reclaim your items.  But it misses the human element that makes DayZ interesting.

Problem is it uses the Wii U screen mainly as map.  Ass Creed 3 uses it as a map/inventory.  Aliens uses it as motion tracker/map.  Pikmin uses it as a map.

Probably most multiplats will be that way. Inventory and maps.

So we still don't know who this Shane is dangit.
Gametrailers guy, he was on Spike earlier, he's short.

At first he was at Gamespot helped G4/Techtv on xplay and then he moved to spike/GT when they wanted more content on their site

If the ZombiU game only uses the screen as a map then why is it a Wii U exclusive? The game's probably trash an Ubi realizes the only way it can sell is from hungry Nintendo nerds.

I don't think Nintendo even knows what to do with a touchscreen at this point.

It also has a scanner thing and uses the screen to snipe or something.

lol ntards on Gaf convincing themselves that ZombiU looks great (gamplay and graphically)

they are showing a live demo on GameTrailers/SpikeTV now
All the video I saw of it looked like CG stuff, not real gameplay.  The game looks scatterbrained as hell.

That probably has something to do with it.  Sounds like the game has been through development hell for awhile now with a bunch of people coming in and out.

I thought ZombiU looked interesting, but it reeks of Red Steel's stench. I haven't seen the gameplay demo, did it look good or as BS as the conf trailer?

They were actually playing it on Spike.

When you die you die, and take over another character is about the the only thing that differentiate it from any other zombie shooter.

PS3 only gamers tend to wine about Sony handhelds because they feel the games could've just been on PS3. With Wii U Nintendo's console now has every interface the 3DS has. Will we get this whining too?

The new Platinum game piques my interest. It's not what I've come to expect of them given their modern output, but then again they were responsible for the whimsical VJ and Ookami. And if Kamiya is indeed directing then I'll keep an eye on it. I'm just surprised that it looks somewhat similar in concept to Pikmin, could be wrong though.

VJ wasn't just whimsy though.  It was a hardcore deep action game like Bayonetta/DMC on a 2.5d plane.  Okami was an epic Zelda adventure with DMC-lite combat and a ton of exploration.

This doesn't look as appealing to the hardcore gamer crowd as Kamiya's previous works.

I don't see how you can tell if its "hardcore appealing" or not.

Four player pikmin/action/morph combat against giant mecha in a city can be plenty "hardcore"

The Platinum game is the ONLY thing the WiiU has going for it, at least as far as I'm concerned, and even then it's more of a curiosity rather than something I gotta have.

Tech demos aren't games. Rubber duckies, you know. Aside from that, Pikmin and 2D Mario aren't exactly known for pushing the graphical boundary of the systems they're on. (Yes, Pikmin looked very nice.)

A bunch of ports wouldn't do that either.

Gonna take Retro and an EAD to really show what the Wii U can do.

This is just a straight-up lie.
I think Pikmin 3 is just disappointingly inconsistent though - the good parts are very good and the bad parts are shitty GC-level ground textures.

Wii U controller battery lasts 3 to 5 hours.  Takes 2.5 hours to charge.

Nintendo has a solution to this problem: they're not making any games anyone would want to play for more than three hours.

Pikmin 3 does at least have some AA and texture filtering, though, so that's something, I suppose.

I have no problem with them using the controller screen as an inventory/map/powers/weapons screen. I think that's a neat (if simple) feature which actually enhances games and replaces awkward d-pad or "wheel" selection. It will be used to charge a premium for games that are over a year old (like Batman, which you can already buy much cheaper elsewhere), though.

I honestly don't know why they bothered focusing on old games.  If they wanted to show off WiiU integration with a 3rd party title then they should have made a deal with someone to show off something we haven't already seen - like a Darksiders 2 demo or something.

To spend so much time with a game that came out last year and announcing insane ports like ME3......I just.....fuck.  It's mind boggling.

How I see it:

+ awesome Batman Wii U pad features
+ uber Diablo like LEGO GTA - system seller #1
+ Dance Something 4 - system seller #2
+ seriously LEGO GTA is amazing
+ New Super Mario Bros. U - 2D Mario what can you ask more for?
+ 2 Wii U tablets working together
+ sexy black Wii U pure black sex
+ LEGO GTA!!! game of the conference for sure
+ Reggie making fun of the meme "My Body is Ready"
- Mass Effect 3, lol
- Nintendoland - HOME of Ninthings
- no multitouch, typical Nintendo: one step forward, 2 steps backwards
- no pricepoint
- Pikmin 3, *yawn*

Overall: best conference of E3 so far. Lots of laugh, lots of cool shit games.

Nintendo is back, baby.

Lol, this dude was jerking off over Mass Effect WiiU in chat. And Lego GTA :lol

Meh, that show killed my inner Nintard a bit more.

Pikmin in places looked like a Wii game.

I actually felt that the controller implementations weren't bad. Sure, not groundbreaking but neat and not detracted from the experience like motion controls.

From a business point of view, I wonder if Nintendo is overcooking 2D Mario. Sooner or later people will tire of it.

Yeah, when it comes to stuff like Batman or ME3, the question anyone who isn't a Nintendo fan will be asking themselves is "Why should I pay $300-350 just so I can pay $60 to play a game I can buy for $20 and play on a system I either already own or can buy for $200-250?"

Because you're not the target demographic. Along with the Nintendo fans who don't buy other systems, they're hoping to attract more people who are into the whole tablet setup and don't previously own systems.

They probably tried, but no one wanted to.

I liked the idea of the screen before, but now it just seems totally gimmicky. It's probably increasing the price of the system, and a lot of system resources have to be devoted to it if you want to do something more than just an inventory screen. I'd probably actually use the feature to play games without the TV being on if it has the range to allow me to play it anywhere in my apartment.  2.5 charge time is terrible though.

The problem is the attraction of the Wii is in the remotes. The people who love what the remotes are doing don't want a regular controller. Why are they going to want a regular controller just because it has a tablet in the middle?
