I literally stopped reading posts pertaining to social issues, especially gender related, on the Internet a couple of years ago. Why would I want to hear or process the opinions of random faceless personalities? Until I see you in the context of real life, how you conduct yourself and some basis of evaluation *then* I'll start listening.
I've always known the Internet can be pretty vile, and I tried my hardest not to let it affect my perception of Western culture, but when I came to the states I was expecting a relatively close level of political correctness. I was surprised by how wrong I was, and this is a really good thing in my book. Someone will say something bordering on racist/sexist inadvertently, and I'll look around waiting for someone to pop a vein in outrage, but nope. Some people just have good faith in others' intentions. And in my head I'll say "god bless you for being 1/6th of an ignorant asshole. God bless you."
The Internet man, I'm telling you.
