mmm, deliciousness

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/espn-suspends-rob-parker-network-ethics-ever-change-230103541--nfl.html

Quote
In the end, whether Rob Parker is fired from the network or not, it's up to ESPN to decide where it wants to go from here. Does ESPN simply replace Parker with another idiot to serve its desire for ethically challenged programming, or will this serve as a wake-up call to the fact that when you put people like Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith in charge of a sandbox and let them run roughshod all they want, you're going to get this kind of garbage over and over again?

Pardon me guys, I'm gonna need a cigarette

It's worth noting that First Read is not just the most popular show on ESPN, it's one of the most popular podcasts in the US - and that's largely due to the show performing so well amongst black people. Given that, I wouldn't be surprised if Rob Parker gets fired; this shit has caused a firestorm. ESPN has always ran ridiculous stories about race (remember that WHAT IF VICK WAS WHITE shit?) but Parker took things out of the ridiculous/awkward territory into quite offensive, racist shit.

Parker got kicked out of Detroit after multiple suspensions and reprimands for doing and saying dumb shit. I really hope he gets fired here and it virtually ends his career. I may not like Stephen A overall, but I at least like hearing his opinion every now and then. Likewise while I don't like Skip, who doesn't enjoy watching his Tebow nonsense rise and fall. Parker has no redeeming qualities.

"Largely" goes too far perhaps, but the show is doing very well among the younger male demographics, and black male viewers are definitely helping to drive that.

I've been scouring the internet for Stephen A's response to Parker; nearly every clip posted so far just features about 5 seconds of Stephen A. Here's most of the segment. Disclaimer: might want to skip the first two and a half minutes or so, due to the uploader making some rather ridiculous comments

Honestly Stephen A's position is rather eye rollingly annoying as well. RG3 isn't doing anything to "appease the masses," he's acting exactly like he has acted since his early Baylor days; that's just who he is and how he was raised. I applaud RG3 for refusing to be placed in the "black quarterback" box.

I meant about it being the most popular show.  I know it's doing better than it used to, but I think PTI's still the biggest sports yelling show they've got on.

Remember when some local NAACP chapter head said Donovan McNabb needed to run the ball more rather than acting like a white QB?  I know most of sports journalism is just people projecting their own narratives and cultural biases onto athletic competition (TEBOW!), but c'mon.

Obviously, but on the flipside there's no reason to go to Tebow either.  I know Woody Johnson is in love with Tebow, if he tries to make Rex and the coaches go to him next year... well, the Jets could have a new coach :P

This is a team that could have easily been 8-8 or worse last year if not for other teams imploding and allowing us to make miracle come backs. This is also a team that went into the off season with blatant holes in the secondary and did NOTHING to address it. We drafted an o-lineman in the first round that doesn't even start, and a WR in the second round that blew out his ACL in college, and blew out the other ACL this season - so he's probably not going to be much of anything in the future.

Two years ago we drafted a WR who is now about to be kicked off the team for insubordination. Before that we drafted Jahvid Best, who probably won't play another game in the NFL due to concussions. We have wasted multiple drafts. We continue to draft offensive players, yet this year our offense sucks outside of vanity yards that don't fucking matter. Here's what we should do

1. Fire our GM. He has wasted too many drafts, it's time to go
2. Fire O and D coordinators
3. Trade Suh. I'd rather get a ton of draft picks than have to pay him what he'll certainly want
4. Draft: secondary and linebackers. I hate Notre Dame but Manti Te'o is legit. Draft him if he's there.
5. FIND a WR. You don't need to draft WRs in this league. It shouldn't be hard for one to play well next to Megatron
6. And for god sakes, fix Stafford's mechanics. This side arm bullshit needs to stop. He looks hurt

I wish we could, especially now that it's pretty obvious Rex Ryan will be fired...but the problem is that Schwartz signed a contract extension during the off season and we STILL don't know any details about it; I'm serious, the year amount hasn't been revealed.

So he'll certainly be back, and I think Mayhew (GM) will be back too. This is the same fucking organization that kept Matt Millen forever, and even gave him a contract extension after the entire sports community assumed he was going to get fired. We're fucked.

I'd fire Schwartz. He's already shown he can't coach players to stop bullshit on the field and keep them from getting into bullshit off the field.  While the Falcons are paper tigers that will undoubtedly fold in the playoffs, I sometimes forget how nice it's been since the whole Vick thing to not have to worry about our players doing stupid shit and getting tossed in jail.  Dmitroff and Smith run a pretty good organization in that respect.

edit: wtf @ the Scwartz contract thing.  :lol Lions

I can't think of another organization that has given a coach a contract extension and not revealed any details. I don't care how much money he's getting, how LONG is the fucking contract?

I wish snesfreak posted here. Tampa Bay had a good year, stunk the next...and cleaned house. They have problems this year but are at least moving in the right direction. Why can't we do that? Because the ENTIRE organization is bad

I'm a big fan of continuity in the NFL. It doesn't make sense to me to have a coaching revolving door every 2-4 years. The only way you can get out of that deathspiral is to get extremely lucky in the draft.

This isn't a particularly great off-season to be coach hunting either. There are going to be a ton of jobs for guys in the NFL and college. If you are not a premier franchise, it's best to find a coach that is competent and stick with him for 6-7 years instead (ala the Bengals).

Well, Gundam and I have both set what it looks like to be our final line-ups for the championship.  I realize that he has me beat in projected points, but I'm not willing to change my line-up anymore.  The players I have are as close to a "sure thing" as I have.  Last week, I almost lost because I put a bunch of players in that I hadn't used before because their projected points looked really good...

Here's for hoping!
