Watched Dark Side of the Ring's Chris Benoit episode.

There's a sobering section of the episode where it highlights the flying headbutt that was such a staple in Benoit's moveset. It continues,"Harvey Race created it [the flying headbutt] and said not to use it because it hurt your spine and would prevent you enjoying an old age. Dynamite Kid uses it and winds up in a wheelchair. Chris Benoit uses it and loses his mind."

Then I thought to Daniel Bryan who, even after coming out of retirement for concussion related issues, still does the move.

At this point, Daniel's fate could very well be sealed. I quit watching wrestling because of his retirement. I couldn't enjoy watching these men and women I look up to continue to do this to themselves. The CM Punk interview with Colt Cabana and the poor medical treatment of the workers (Punk being given a Z pack while having a staph infection) helped reinforce that decision. So when Bryan hung it up, so did I. Years later I see Bryan's back to it, still doing flying headbutts and suicide dives.

What was it all for? Daniel Bryan is a tragedy waiting to happen.

AEW Injury update:

Wrestling Observer Radio has updates on Britt Baker, Matt Jackson and Rey Fenix after last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, who all appeared to get hurt.

Fenix appeared to hurt his hip after diving to the outside onto a group of wrestlers following his match with Orange Cassidy. According to Bryan Alvarez, Fenix is ‘banged up’ and ‘hurting’ but will likely still compete in the Casino Ladder match on Saturday at Double or Nothing.

Baker, meanwhile, was seen clutching her knee during a tag match in which Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida slammed Nyla Rose onto her. Rose landed with all of her weight on Baker’s right knee, which was bent at the time. She is current scheduled to face Statlander on Saturday, but it was noted that she has to get evaluated by a doctor today and it looks like ‘a pretty serious knee injury’.

Finally, there was Matt Jackson, who did a dive off of a wall in the stadium with his brother Nick onto the Inner Circle. It’s believed that Jackson suffered some sort of rib injury as a result, either a bruise, torn cartilage or a break. He took shots to the ribs after that but was visibly in pain as the show went off the air. He is currently scheduled to be a part of the Stadium Stampede match at Saturday’s event. He will also get checked out today.

i think the only way people will stop doing the diving headbutt is is someone snaps their neck in the ring doing it tbh, the only thing i can think of that wrestlers have chilled out on is unprotected chair shots

For the most part, I've found most wrestlers work more safe these days, suicide dives aside. I'm not fond of suicide dives period. If overused, they become boring. Also if overused, they become more dangerous than they already are. Ricky Starks hits a suicide dive in NWA and it's a badass moment because dives are used so sparingly.

As those who know my wrestling watching habits in the past probably know, I love work horses and workrate. Or I used to. But I've seen time and time again what workrate actually entails and it's often tragedy. Eddie and Chris had among the best work the sport ever had and look what happened to them.

I think it's a bit better because not every promotion is doing as much wrasslin as WWE is. NXT, ROH, and NWA have one hour shows. Less wrasslin, less damage. Also Extreme or hardcore wrestling is no longer en vogue.

Oh Bryan is definitely fucked in his later years. Even before heading to WWE (which is 10 years now), he had at LEAST 20 documented concussions and surely more than that and multiple in between then and the first time he went on the IR list for the neck issue, and one of his first matches back from that, he had Harper drop him directly on top of his head to "test out" his neck, continued doing the diving headbutt, ADDED a rapid headbutt spot that got him and Dolph fucked up. So then he is forced to retire due to concussion stuff up to and including seizures and since he's returned he's had at least 2 more concussions and continues to do the diving headbutt.

What is wrong with Daniel and why is Brie allowing this?

Daniel Bryan for his next contract basically wants the Orton/Lesner contract. Part time work, no house shows, and chooses who he works with. That's basically what he has now because of circumstances.

I'm not sure if I can. I struggle to watch Benoit matches knowing his fate. I don't watch Daniel Bryan any time he's on screen now because I know his fate is sealed. I loved him so much his retirement broke my love for wrestling. I can't continue to watch his matches. Thanks but no thanks.

No. He was much better at the start of his NJ run but half way through the G1 got another staph infection and since then has been the same or worse than he was the last 2 years of WWE. The only times he's perked up in AEW is when he got to do full blown CZW shit a couple of times and otherwise seems like he's bored and phoning it in like he had been in WWE for 2-3 years. Especially notable because his energy level is completely different and very evident that he enjoys working NJ/Japan in general more than AEW/US and he's only had like 4 NJ matches since AEW started TV.

Is there any way to excite him working in US again? Why's he bored?

Drew Gulak is back on Smackdown. Apparently WWE didn't like that he hired an agent to negotiate contract renewals and it led to a stalemate, but things were ironed out.

Dirt sheets are also saying that Matt Riddle is going to get called up to the main roster.

My issue with it was they didn't go far enough with wild and silly shit. The Hardys did something more creative and entertaining in their backyard with no budget. So here are 10 minds, unlimited budget, unlimited possibilities in a unique setting and 90% of it was just a normal Attitude Era hardcore match brawl.
