Like everything that people have tweeted Gio, literally we have a person that compiles those lists and prioritizes based on how many requests we've gotten. And I think to date there's well over 10,000 mentions across like forum threads and stuff like that. So those are the ones we're focused on.

I saw that photo of the worn thumb sticks a few days ago.  IIRC the great detectives of Reddit concluded that he had used sand paper to wear them down like that.  I'm inclined to believe it since there are scratch marks all over the sticks and all of the particles on the rest of the controller.

worst thing I've read about the hardware is that the controller allegedly only lasts around ~10 hours, probably because of that stupid light.  my 360 (with eneloops) and PS3 controllers last much longer than that.



and sub-1080p games finally make sense.  both these companies expect you to play in a window with a picture of your face in the cornet.


edit: dammit, andrex.  now it's down to 7-8 hours  :'(

I would imagine the battery life will be all over the place, depending on what you're doing.  If you're broadcasting the game audio and voice chat to it, that's bound to knock a couple hours off.

Well, good thing they delayed Driveclub or they would've had 3 mediocre exclusive launch games instead of 2.  Hopefully with a 6 month delay, Driveclub will get up to snuff and Infamous not being rushed for launch will help that one too.


So if Killzone campaign sucks, does that mean Ghosts is the best next-gen SP FPS?  Sad.

Downloading a game from the PlayStation Store was also an interesting experience. We opted for Battlefield 4 - a massive 35GB. The PS4 would allow us to install and play the game with just 6288MB piped down from the internet, the net result being that this was the complete single-player campaign. To get online and play multiplayer, you need for the rest of the game to wind its way down the pipe. This isn't quite the seamless PlayGo experience we were hoping for, but it's better than nothing.

Moving onto the disc side of things, Call of Duty: Ghosts can be inserted and played just like any normal game - and you can play immediately while the code spools off 32GB of data onto the hardware as you play. We didn't have time to conduct an in-depth like-for-like performance analysis here, but gameplay seemed unaffected, with the only noticeable difference being longer level loading times before the game had fully cached - the first level, for example, loads 16 seconds faster than playing the game from scratch.

Key features could be investigated briefly though. The PlayStation Store, visually, has much in common with the latest PS3 design, but while it still feels rather clunky and slow to respond in many ways, it is a marked improvement over the current-gen version. 

On start-up, the hardware is exceptionally quiet, but as you progress into gameplay, volume and heat does start to increase. PS4 also draws a fair amount of juice too - 80W at idle on the front-end menus (the "PlayStation Dynamic Menu" to give it its proper name), 95W based on in-game video playback, and around 110-120W during gameplay - that's about 10-20W more than the first release of the "Slim" PlayStation 3. Curiously though, bringing up the menu system while in-game sees another leap in power draw - up to the maximum of 140W.

So now that gaf's up again.  Reading about it, it seems like everyone is saying the PS4 is like the PS3 but way better in everything minus a couple of OS hiccups.  And that the PS4 versions of multiplatforms are the best non-PC version outside CoD, and that Killzone and Resogun are solid 8/10 games and that Knack sucks.

Eh, sounds fine for a launch.
