I'm happy for the kid and think he's a role model but at the same time, it must be tough being in university when you're fucking 11.

To be fair, I can understand where he's coming from. The "poor kid" argument is kinda flat: What should the kid do? Not fulfill his potential and stay in elementary/middle school with kids his age for the social experience while not being engaged in materiel that he isn't finding challenging?

Ultimately my parents decided against letting me skip a bunch of grades as a kid because they were afraid I'd be socially stunted by being years younger than my classmates. I knew another kid whose parents made the same decision. I'd guess it's kind of common. In fact, based on the anecdotal evidence I've seen, I'd guess that more parents decide against letting their kids skip grades than the ones who actually allow it.

I think it basically comes down to how you view your kid and their wants/desires: If they aren't being engaged in school-work at their current level, I don't see why you wouldn't let them skip ahead. If they don't feel ready for that, don't.

It's more a case-by-case and individual want/need matter. If the kid doesn't feel like they're among their peers I don't see the harm of letting them go to older age groups.

Child geniuses are a weird bunch, simply because they're "rare" cases among the norm.

Most of my bans were years ago. I've been banned twice in the last few years, one of which was a mistake on my part the other came out of nowhere (Blackace).

The only bullshit ban I got was when I said "That is great news!" when Virtua Fighter 5 was getting ported to the 360. Sfags were screaming, having fits, melting down, etc. in that thread and the mods started banning anyone who expressed positivity towards the news (as well as negativity towards Sfags). I guess Xfags were supposed to be sullen over the fact that a big PS3 exclusive was moving to the 360. That was during the time when it was made obvious that the gaming side had a huge Sony slant and you had to watch your words. I wound up getting banned for a month.

Edit: In the proper context, this was around the time where PS3 exclusives were starting to get announced for the 360. Also the PS3 wasn't doing well at all and sfags were extremely sensitive about this fact. So people got banned all over the place for not pining for Lair properly.
