I brought up iron boots as well. Additional items are the megaton hammer, goron and zora tunics, hover boots, and biggoran sword. You use the most of these items only in specific dungeons or areas. The biggoran sword is a giant waste of space, period. The zora tunic is more useful than the goron tunic, but you don't really use it much. Hover boots are mostly only ever used in its specific dungeon. The same is true for the Megaton Hammer, and the iron boots. They are filler items are used for their novelty and do not add to the games overall design, because they are meant for specific moments in the game, and the games design is not based around these items. They're just cute additions you use a few times.
Compare to LoZ1, LTTP, and Majora's Mask, and these games have much more to work with. The story items you get are items you will be using the whole game, in every location. The same is not true for OoT.
I only listed two items (lens of truth and iron boots) because I didn't feel like nerding out and actually looking at an OoT item list to make my point.
