What's up with the people who don't understand Jolie getting the mastectomy? 87% probability you're getting an extremely aggressive cancer and doing a procedure to lower it to 5% is easy enough to understand isn't it?

Well clearly she should have taken the risk to save her glorious boobies. Mmmmm, boobies...

I watched a documentary once about a group of sisters who all had the breast cancer gene and their mom had already had breast cancer and in the doc the sisters were all trying to decide whether to get the preemptive mastectomy or take their chances and keep their boobs at least for the time being. It's not like it's a no-brainer, "yeah I'll get some part of me removed just in case, no biggie", but it's also not a very light decision to keep your breasts in that situation, considering the constant fear you'd be having to live under and knowing the fact that by the time breast cancer is noticeable in a mammogram it's already grown enough to be worrisome and possibly life-threatening.

Most people who don't like fake boobs still accept them if they're done for corrective purposes but for some reason getting them before any cancer has ravaged your body, even though it would most likely happen at some point, it's suddenly not okay. It's like these guys are thinking the biggest reason she shouldn't have done it is because now her boobs are no longer natural, and it should have been a more important thing in decision making than the fact that if she doesn't get the mastectomy she might get cancer and die. I guess they think that just because she's rich her cancer would be noticed in time and she'd get such good treatment that it would be no biggie and all it would need to treat it would be a little lumpectomy and she could still go on living with her possibly dangerous breasts and just have more and more lumpectomies every time the cancer comes back. For the love of god, anything, ANYTHING, before a preemptive mastectomy and breast implants! Even a life of constant worry and fear and possibly multiple aggressive medical treatments throughout many years' time, just to save the boobies. FFS.

Some douche even said she must be lying about the cancer risk and used it as an excuse to get a boob job... Yeah it's hardly the same as when people get nose jobs because of "deviated septums"...

I don't think people realize how predictable cancer is, since it's basically inevitable. The only person who might have a problem is  her husband and I'm sure it's not something he had to think long about.

Platy and co. annoy me as much as anyone, but I don't quite understand the etiolate comment about trans people devaluing the experience of growing up male or female. Growing up was an interesting experience for me, but I didn't really give a lot of thought to my gender during that period, except for possibly during my years on the high school football team. Certainly no experiences that some biological female who wanted to become a guy would devalue in any way. I mean sure, I want to be a "man", like Batman or Han Solo, but that's a personal thing, not a gender-wide thing.

Trans people get a pretty fucking tough draw genetically. No reason to go out and actively make it worse for them.
