Engage the points? Harson, your "points" deduce to "blame the customer" schlock mixed with big media shilling. Your complete lack of empathy in order to understand WHY there is outrage on neogaf borders on comical.
The thread you quoted had little to do with Microsoft. Yes, it was inspired by the way yesterday unfolded, but it's overarching point was one rooted within last generation as whole. You're free to disregard 99% of the post and reroute it within a context that is solely situated on Microsoft and the Xbox One in an attempt to squash the point, as several people did yesterday, but it amounts to little more than deflection. And my points don't solely deduce to "blaming the customer," I believe it to be a joint effort between the industry and the customer, with the former deserving the brunt of the blame. If you're suggesting that the customer is never wrong, then absolutely I disagree with that pipe dream of an assessment. They do have a hand in the current state of the industry, both good and bad. Also, I believe you're confusing rationalization, which the majority of my posts yesterday were concerned with, with outright agreement. Or basically, understanding something versus condoning it. I'd prefer to be able to have free reign over my retail purchases, but I understand why the industry is trying to weaken that fact, and I also understand why consumers are insulted by the industry's position. I also understand that the transition from retail to digital is an inevitable outcome for all media related industries, and that a Steam like ecosystem is going to happen for console gaming. I'd prefer choice in the matter, but the fact of the matter is, we're going be dragged into it kicking and screaming as consumers. But then again, maybe I'm just defending what I find appealing, just as you're defending what you find appealing. I've been a pretty vocal advocate of HTPCs and technology/software of that type for a long time, so seeing Microsoft taking a step in that direction, even at the expense of a pure gaming experience, is exciting IMO, and I'm naturally defensive when such things are attacked wholeheartedly.
My posting style has always been to be vocal when position at hand is against the grain. I don't enjoy piling on or taking part in circle jerks. Dialogues of those types come off as a brain drain and inherently boring. What you call being a Microsoft shill, I call daring to be different. Neogaf is already filled to the brim with Sony love and Microsoft hate, so I see little point in adding what already amounts to a sea of content in those departments. I'm a huge fan of dialog, and dialog is at its best when opposing viewpoints are present, so those are ultimately the types of scenarios I'm privy to placing myself within.
