Some spectacular displays of mental gymnastics happening in the Jeremy Clarkson thread after the Shaq and Sterling threads.

I've read the story on the beeb and I dont think Clarkson should lose his job over that. I do think they need to get another editor in to filter out the bad ideas like the mexico incident, the slope scenario and potentially having a white bloke signing about catching distinguished black fellows on international tv

It had me at first, but the soapbox ranting at the end gives me the impression someone made up the interaction for that purpose. Not that I doubt there's people like that out there, it's just a little too perfect.

To me it's not comparable to the Sterling thing, where the guy has this documented history of saying some truly vile things with full conviction.  It's more like the Shaq thing where he did something really dumb and inexcusable but not overtly malicious.  Clarkson shouldn't lose his job, IMO.  But the key word is "inexcusable" - and there's such a league of excuse makers acting on his behalf.

What's with his insistence it's always a pejorative even when minorities say it a la rap to defend his usage?

Pick one asshole. You're contradicting yourself.

I've been called a distinguished black fellow by a couple cacs, and I've been given the "sup my nicca" treatment from a white guy who got a "nicca pass" from his black friends. There's a pretty big difference brehs.

I'm fine with nicca.

A black person here would never call another black person a kaffir, I haven't legit heard that word used in about 10 years amazingly.

At my school everybody could say it but it was mostly because everyone was cool with everyone. I don't see that working out everywhere.

Oakland is not a good barometer for anywhere else. It's a disgusting ass cesspool that needs to be annexed with the rest of North Cali

Except the water. They should still send us that. feggits.

NorCalers cry so much about sharing water I'm honestly shocked their tears don't replace what's taken. Do they make kids watch Chinatown in school there or something.

Yes I realize this himu, and that's really what I'm saying. Every culture treats these things differently, so I'm adding some colour to the conversation. Racism in the UK is also very weird, I often feel like the minorities hate each other way more than white people ever could, it's the same crab/boiling pot mentality that was very prevalent in especially the Western Cape in South Africa during apartheid and now still (but very much reduced in intensity). The worst race related incidents I have seen happening where black on black, not even in an AWB wet dream would they be able to incite and get away with necklacing members of the community and getting away with it under cover of night cause no will point out the responsible people.

They keep expanding a desert. Why shouldn't people be "wtf" about that. Especially when it means more water stripped from norcal rivers.

I brought it up because "a black person here" sounds kind of like when people treat the black race as one homogeneous culture. I know it wasn't your intent, though. But you guys notice how everyone else identifies groups mostly via _______ country (for example: the Irish here, or the Russians here) except when it comes to black people where it is only ever "black people"?

I'm pretty sure Clarkson only likes to use slurs to rile people up which is tiring at this point when his co-presenters prefer to make fun of themselves. I don't doubt that he accidentally said the N-word because of how eeny meeny mo was said on Pulp Fiction. Honestly, he's a teenager in a 50 year old body.

I didnt want to go into specifics, but black people here have history and defined cultures, a zulu is very different from a xhosa for example. A Khoisan wont even identify as being black. I apologize if I made a simplistic mention of 'black people', but it's because I don't want to bog what I'm saying down with having to explain the crazy amount of tribes, traditions and nuances when it comes to south african black history. Rest assured that when speaking to 99.9% of south africans, we have a deep understanding of race relations, not many other countries/geographic areas are close to as race experienced as we are.

Well just amongst the Xhosa's there are many tribes see here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xhosa_people

The Zulus are mostly one tribe now thanks to Dingaan and Shaka
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zulu_people

As for how they are recorded, I would assume the national surveys that go around every couple of years would cover that

They keep expanding a desert. Why shouldn't people be "wtf" about that. Especially when it means more water stripped from norcal rivers.

It's a coastal / inland problem, not a north / south problem, and we're really talking about the scraps that are left for the rest of us after the increasingly unsustainable agricultural sector takes ~80% of the water in the first place. It's the NorCal counterpart to SoCal conservatives whining about paying state income taxes.

The one thing about white people (mostly on the internet) and the n-word that always leaves me  ??? is the need to say it in the first place. Like, why? Why do you have to say it so badly? Why can't you live your life without being able to say one fucking word because it hurts some people? Who cares about the semantics behind it? Is it for real that important to dudes that they'll fight over their right to say it? What kind of person is that?

Makes me think some white folks just don't like being told no. Ever.
