To be fair, I'm not impressed with game art much at all these days. Even Final Fantasy is trash now. Let's cram as much inane shit as possible rather than trying to craft a believable world with culture. Bioshock Infinite looks good. Dragon Age whatever it is called looks good aesthetically. Remember  Me is western?

You know, in terms of recent game art, the only ones that have gotten my attention are indie titles. Titles like Transister and especially Guacamelee, Journey, Trials Fusion, Kentucky Route Zero, Trine 2 have fantastic in terms of art aesthetic. It's almost like the old adage,"less is more" is actually true! Even something like Jazzpunk is visually refreshing.

I really enjoy Skyrim's art direction. Oscar can say it looks generic to him, but the northern lights, the way the sky lights up with stars, the morning fog, it all just feels right. And while it is very defined set of traditional high fantasy aesthetic, it still manages to pull it off in a nice manner. It helps I have a big thing for Nordic/Viking architecture and design.

Also, you guys are just arguing character art while I am also arguing environmental and setting design. A game should have a sense of place and that is backed by the environments that extend beyond the character. The two big western titles that impress me with their art are GTAV and Saints Row the Third and IV. All three titles make every other western game their bitch. I can play GTAV and remember the year I stayed in LA the whole summer. Dead rising 2 is also up there. Good job, Blue Castle.

GTAV:

Saints Row The Third:

that's one thing i don't like about living in japan.  there's nowhere here i can go to get a sky full of stars, not even half-assed.  back home in canada i could walk outside, look up, and on a clear night, see a view almost as good as those pics.

I know you guys like hating my GW2 posts, but if you're looking for western art then Arena Net is top tier stuff. Daniel Docieu is a gawd and their Concept Art to In-Game execution is impressive. Their character art isn't as strong as their environmental art, but its not weak either.

Gaf tends to be overly emotional in general to the tiniest shit. However, you need to view this from the scope of a minority barely anyone takes seriously, is routinely under-minded, and that barely any segment of the population understands. Of course there's jimmy rustling. CIS people rarely defend trans people, so there has to be a segment of trans people (which is already a ridiculously low number even compared to gays) who defend transgender individuals. I certainly don't see you bitching about jimmy rustling when some dipshit says a racist remark, and while many trans individuals on gaf may have the wrong go about it, I'd love to read you defend as to why.

Trust me, as a Nas stan I understand.

Actually I don't get upset over racial comments, as seen in every thread about "x says something offensive." The last time I truly got rustled was Trayvon Martin, however jokes about it don't phase me. Now if Zimmerman was joking about it then yeah, I'd either get my jimmies rustled or catch a murder case.

My problem with some (not all) of Trans-GAF is that they get seem extremely defensive over small shit. Like Dax throwing a fit whenever someone isn't aware of her situation (iirc she doesn't identify as trans). There's a lot of misunderstanding with respect to this, and I think it would make sense not to treat that as disrespect or comparable to bigotry. A lot of people are confused about this stuff, they don't mean any harm and are often trying to understand it more...only to be dog piled. I'm not talking about you, you and Raban are very understanding. I'm referring to GAFers.

It reminds me of super pro-Africa black people who get upset over the slightest slights. Yes there is plenty of stuff to be mad about, but getting upset because Joe Blow thought Cleopatra was white...eh. There are people who are willfully ignorant about shit like that, but there are also those who are confused after years of misinformation.

My issue with these sorts of situations is when someone says something that is construed as offensive, is called out on it, and then objects to it being offensive.

The argument that RuPaul feels included in the trans umbrella and as such can use words like cheeseburger is sound imo, but not accepting that others (esp. peoples marginalized even within the LGBTQ movement) are offended by his use of it comes across as disrespectful.

I blame the PC movement which has fully murdered the notion of 'bigotry as action' and replaced it with 'bigotry as character'.

Himu

To be honest, I'm annoyed myself so many trans people even give a fuck about Ru if they don't even watch her show.

The trans community I associate with is very anti-drag, but I'm stupid cisscum so I have no idea if they're outliers or not, and I thought that's why Ru was such a lightning rod.

I'd really never considered the problematic aspects of drag until those people made me aware of it, and I've had a hard time going back Drag Race since.

So the E3 Special Notes sticky just got put up by Nirolak. Could any Gaf mods on here say whether this is meant to ease the load on the server? Or an attempt to stop E3 shitposting.

Quote
Special Notes:

1.) During E3 (Monday, June 9th *through* Thursday, June 12th) all reaction threads will be locked. A reaction thread consists of such things as "Wow Sony just won E3!", "Zelda U has the best graphics ever!", "Is the Xbox One doomed now?", "Where is The Last Guardian?? Where's Santa Monica!?", "Are you buying a Wii U now?", "Does Microsoft have anything left? They announced so many games!", "Does Microsoft have the best Japanese support of any console?", or anything else that is just a thread about immediate reactions to events. For the duration, these threads will be locked on sight. If you feel you have somethings important to say on these matters, either ask in the main conference threads, or write-up a really good thread on it and post it on Friday, June 13th.

2.) If you post a news thread, make sure it contains actual details of the news at hand. If your thread is simply Title: "OMG KIRBY WII U ANNOUNCED!" Body: "ON THE STREAM!" your thread will be locked and we reserve the right to junior you, since this goes against normal thread policies anyway.

3.) Do not post new news from E3 in a pre-E3 thread. Either make a new thread, or pick an existing thread made during E3.

Policy Reminders:

1.) Do not complain about the purpose of a thread. This includes complaining about people judging gameplay in a gameplay video thread, judging graphics in a screenshot thread, or calling something too nitpicky or biased in a review/technical analysis/critique thread. Instead, if you disagree, either post the reason (in detail) that you disagree with the point being made ("I think the graphics look great, just look at the shadowing and texture detail!", "I don't notice frame hitching at 60 fps personally, so it doesn't bother me.", "In my experience with the game, I found the encounter design to be great actually, for example..."), or simply avoid the thread if you feel you are unable to.

2.) If you feel there's a problem with someone breaking the rules, do not engage and simply PM a mod. There are only ~20 mods and tens of thousands of posts a day, so we simply cannot be everywhere and see every infraction without your help.

There have been a number of legit cheeseburgers on RuPaul's Drag Race.  I'm kind of surprised they're eligible for the show. And apparently even a lot of the gay ones still take hormones to pump up their drag abilities.

here lemme kick some tbonics for y'all
transvestite = cisperson who wears clothes of the opposite sex for entertainment/pleasure
transsexual = transperson whose gender identity does not conform with their physical sex, thus they typically pursue medical means of aligning the two
genderqueer = special snowflake transpeople who choose not to fit the gender binary of male/female and feel they are somewhere in-between
transgender = umbrella term for all of the above terms
vocabulary spills I'm ill
spoiler (click to show/hide)
also I'm of the opinion that "cheeseburger" isn't a word that intelligent people use to describe transpeople, no matter who you are
