Yeah, they have to make a lot of sacrifices. But it's still a nice observation.

The show is full of promiscuous characters, but I understand his complaint. Still I think it can be argued that while Loras was deeply in love with Renly that doesn't mean he never had sex again; lots of people lose their loved one and have sex a few months later.

I was actually more disappointed with the "Loras the bride" treatment during that scene with Sansa. It was funny but it was also a clear stereotype, and I don't see why the writers decided to go that route. The majority of the gay characters in Martin's books are similar to Kima or Omar from The Wire, although there are a couple of the more stereotypical types (Renly comes to mind, but even he participated in tourneys and was considered a decent fighter). Loras may dress flamboyant but he is arguably the third or fourth best warrior in the entire series, and is well respected. He seems like a petty child thus far on the show.

Chalk it up as another area where Spartacus is superior. Probably the best, most touching relationship on the show is between two dudes - both of whom are great characters. Not simply because they're badasses, but because of some impressive character development and drama (especially last season).

Ratings drop, either due to the holiday or the somewhat less eventful pace of recent episodes
Quote
TV by the Numbers reports that Game of Thrones easily won the night again (in absolute numbers and with 2.4 in demo), but the numbers for the intial hour dropped to what they were three weeks ago: 4.83. An additional 1.12 million saw the repeat airing on Sunday, which means he nightly total was 5.95.
http://winteriscoming.net/2013/05/ratings-register-a-drop-this-week/

The non-book readers I talk to are pretty bummed at the lack of Dany stuff; they all liked her (great) scene from the last episode though. I must say I don't understand why the writers shoehorned her into S2, but are somewhat neglecting her this season when there's a lot of cool stuff to cover.

Also literally everyone I've talked to hates the Theon scenes. I really don't understand why the show has spent so much time on him, or why they cast a relatively well known TV actor for the torturer/You Know Who

Nope. It's just not compelling television, and has beat it's point into the ground; I think all viewers "get" that Theon is being tortured by a crazy guy. It seems like three Theon scenes would have been fine, but he's had more screen time than Dany and almost as much as Jon...just doesn't make sense to me.

maybe his scenes are cheap to film and the budget is spent elsewhere, like on dodgy ice wall CG.

Anyway what are your thoughts on show Loras and the GAF post about him? And Spartacus having the best gay love stories on television.

Show Loras' homosexuality is played up 50,000x more than the books ever did, which is ridiculous and stupid. I could have done without Tywin's homophobic speech to Olenna, too.

Also yes, Spartacus had the best gay love story on TV -- and some of the best love stories in general. One of the best written shows, period.

GoT's producer recently said he believes the show can last 7 seasons.
Quote
Speaking backstage at the Baftas – where Game of Thrones was also nominated in the International category – Doelger said: “[The number of series] is being discussed as we speak. The third season was the first half of book three, season four will be the second part of book three. George RR Martin has written books four and five; six and seven are pending.

“I would hope that, if we all survive, and if the audience stays with us we’ll probably get through to seven seasons.”
http://winteriscoming.net/2013/05/thrones-producer-well-probably-get-through-seven-seasons/

Werthead (Adam Whitehead) did a speculative breakdown of where the show will go after they finish the Storm of Swords material. I like the last two books but there's no question they feature some content that would be very hard to translate on television. The show is already filming in multiple locations and that would increase later, alongside the addition of multiple characters (some of whom cannot be cut).

Link to westeros.org (contains spoilers):

I agree with the basic premise.

series spoiler

I really like the idea of putting Sam in King's Landing instead of Oldstown; this would also place "Pate"/Jaqen there as well, which would be interesting.

Victarion and Euron would translate well on TV imo, and I'm pretty sure we'll hear about them in tomorrow's episode (which I'm pretty sure will feature the death of Balon).

I'd be fine with sending Osha/Rickon to Castle Black too. It could replace the Dalla plot. No one is going to care about Mance's son being threatened, but Melisandre attempting to burn Rickon would work better; Jon could send Osha and Rickon away in secret, then they head to Skagos.

Raise your hand if you think Martin is going to finish the last two books in the next four years.

*crickets*

I thought so.

However, I'm sure he'll continue to consult on the series and write episodes though.  Honestly, the show has a better chance at completion than the books at this point, which I think would be hilarious and would result in all kinds of butt-hurt.

Good episode, felt a little like padding before the big finale, but I liked the Tyrion/Sansa stuff.  I missed last week, what the fuck is going on with Robb?  Is he still going to try and take Casterly Rock?

Hm you're right.

She DOES kneel though.

Quote
"The dwarf tugged at her a third time. Stubbornly she pressed her lips together and pretended not to notice. Someone behind them tittered. The queen, she thought, but it didn’t matter. They were all laughing by then, Joffrey the loudest. “Dontos, down on your hands and knees,” the king commanded. “My uncle needs a boost to climb his bride.”

And so it was that her lord husband cloaked her in the colors of House Lannister whilst standing on the back of a fool.

When Sansa turned, the little man was gazing up at her, his mouth tight, his face as red as her cloak. Suddenly she was ashamed of her stubbornness. She smoothed her skirts and knelt in front of him, so their heads were on the same level. “With this kiss I pledge my love, and take you for my lord and husband.”"
