Nailed it. Putting on makeup and shaving is something I do because fuck, I like it. My mom doesn't shave her legs. I do. The idea that all women are forced to do things is pretty wrong. Many do it because they LIKE doing it and are doing it for themselves. One of the many great things about being trans is seeing both sides view. But when I put on eyeliner it isn't because it is what I feel are societies expectations for beauty. I'm doing it because I think it looks cool as shit.

So I'm about to head to my trans group and I was wondering, Himu you said you went to a trans group before, how often do you go?, what is it like?, do you get anything out of it?

The group I go to is 25 and under group, it's usually a mixed bag of people and quality. Some weeks are good, some weeks are "Why the fuck do I still come here?". However there's pizza and it's nice to be around other trans people. Do want to check out a group that has older people, just to see what it'd be like, different perspectives,etc.

  The group is at a clinic and some of the girls that would be in the waiting room sometimes, would be real pretty. Like the only reason you'd know they're trans is because they are at a trans clinic.

There's a transgender center in the lgbt district of Houston. Every first Friday there is a BBQ. I've only gone a few times because I feel odd there since I wasn't on hormones and I wasn't presenting female and I hate it when people me she or her or whatever when I don't look the part as it feels like a lie. I dunno. I don't have many trans friends irl. But I'll probably work on that this summer when I participate in the pride festival.

As for what it's like, eh. It is a good mix of trans men and women and people of diverse backgrounds. The people are nice and extremely helpful. I've had no issues with it at all aside from frequencies (or lack thereof) of events and my own aversion

Because sometimes group just isn't very good. Someone talks WAY too much,no one says anything,nothing interesting is really said. I don't get anything out of it but it's really a week by week thing. Today was alright, it also my last time since I'm going back to Florida  :'( Also I'm gonna miss this awesome nurse who works there, she did my injections and we'd talk about stuff, she was really cool. Like that's the kind of woman I wanna be.

This is an odd thing to ask and an odd place to throw it in: I have a friend who is trans and was raped at knifepoint a year ago by someone she says she knew. She still refuses to say who it was or go to the police. I'm wondering if it's fine to bring it up again after several months and pressure her to say who it was. As a male-to-female transexual, she's very used to the stares and the hatred and doesn't want to feel down by thinking about it I think. But I'm worried that she'll regret this.

Don't force her into it as it may dredge up bad memories. But sit down with her and try to talk about it. Is her everyday life affected by this? Is she depressed? Don't go to the police immediately but look into rape laws of California in the mean time. More than anything, try to give her time. But go in with the knowledge that just because she may seem fine now doesn't mean it will always be the case. Since she's pushing down the memories they could surface at any time.

There was no alcohol involved and obviously that doesn't make a person force somebody with a knife. She's like the Cadillac of cheeseburgers but it is common apparently for trans people to go on a date with someone and then for their date to turn around and put all their own self-loathing on the trans person. Like I said, she's used to it but that was by far the worst experience she had. I'm guessing it was a pretty innocent question and you just had no idea.

I wouldn't push her to do anything that she doesn't want. But last week I had a jury duty for a domestic abuse case where the wife was refusing to testify (got cut for no longer living in the area). The selection process made me realize that I couldn't be unbiased in such a case since I know most people won't accuse their attackers so the fact that it proceeded to trial makes me think it must have happened. I've just been thinking about it a lot since then and am hoping that she just eventually reconciles this for herself in some way.

I'm really frustrated with being "considered part of the group" but really not PART of the group in regards to larger lgbt. It might as well the b and t not exist in this larger umbrella.

I go to my city's pride festival site and read up on the history of it and they're all gay this, gay that. I don't identify as gay at all! Yet there won't  be any mention of trans individuals. They'll mention lgbt in the text but the truth is that they really mean GAY. I'm not gay! This continuously pushes me further from the movement.

Look at the Stonewall riots entry on Wikipedia. Among the most prominent people in the riots were transgender and the very first thing they put on the entry is HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE 20th CENTURY. the word trans pops up only 8 times in the entire article.

I'm just reading up on the history of transsexuality and it is a constant nagging feeling. It makes me angry.

Actually I think part of the real problem is that collectively the human race hasn't really come to terms with being 'gay'. There are seriously HUGE swathes that find gayness so repellent that they're moved to murder or victimise, there are HUGE swathes that find any form of circumcision acceptable.

Rights are gained by blood, it doesn't matter who's, but its always better if its not the victors.
