I think that's his point: Americans already don't.

Sure. But I think there's a difference between indifference due to lack of awareness/lack of connection to the event, and actively flaunting indifference. If it seems like I don't care about the deaths of Iraqis, for instance, it's because I either don't hear about these stories or because they simply don't resonate with me because I've never been to the area and don't know any Iraqis. I have no tangible connection to the event, and therefore it has little impact on my life. But having said that, I would know better than to go into a thread where people who are genuinely mournful of such an event and offer inane charges of hypocrisy and deride the event with "who gives a shit?" level rhetoric due to a comparison with something worse occurring elsewhere in recent history.

Americans am cry.
2 people die, two dozen are maimed.

Elsewhere, like say in Iraq, that's how many people are killed on a daily basis thanks to insurgent bombings.

Most of you don't even know the people who have died or gotten injured, you're no better than Ashodin and his feeble attempt at mourn-olympics.
Fucking grow up you immature imbeciles.

 :badass :badass :badass

When your country gets blown up, I'll be sure not to care about it.

I think that's his point: Americans already don't.

If it's a non-third world country, people would still care. I just can't work up a lot of care when there's a bombing in a country that gets bombed every week, just like I don't care every time there's a gun homicide in the US with a death toll of less than 10. I just don't have that much care; care is a finite amount. You gotta save it for the big stuff.

Apologies to anyone who actually know someone affected by the bombings, but I cannot stand farcical grief contests between distant observers.

Really? Care is only reserved for "non-third world countries"? What does that even mean, Joe?

Look, I don't make the rules, man. This happened less than a week ago.

Did you know about it? I didn't. If I did, I just tuned it out, because it's Syria, so whatcha gonna do? But if there was a bombing in like London or Japan or somewhere, it would have been a bigger deal on the news.

Parents Of Second Victim Initially Told She Had Survived Boston Attack

In an apparent hospital mix-up, the parents of the second Boston marathon attack victim, Krystle Campbell, were initially told she was live and that her friend Karen had been killed. Via WCVB Boston:

When William and Patty Campbell were finally allowed in to see the patient, they realized it was not their daughter.

“I said, ‘That’s not my daughter, that’s Karen! Where’s my daughter?’" Patty Campbell said.

http://edition.cnn.com/2013/04/17/us/boston-blasts/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Quote
Investigators believe they have identified a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, a source who has been briefed on the investigation told CNN's John King exclusively.

The breakthrough came from analysis of video from a department store near the site of the second explosion. Video from a Boston television station also contributed to the progress, said the source, who declined to be more specific but called it a significant development.

Earlier, a federal law enforcement source with firsthand knowledge of the investigation told CNN that a lid to a pressure cooker thought to have been used in the bombings had been found on a roof of a building near the scene.

While such clues may move the investigation forward, they did not reveal whether the attack was an act of domestic or foreign terrorism.

I have no faith left in the Mississippi Justice system. I feel my coming forward with my story and releasing it to news media all over the USA in 2001 has helped expose the illegal body parts and organ trade market world-wide.

I personally sent out more than a million emails in one year detailing what happened to me when I found the body parts at NMMC. In 2004, 4 arrests were made in New York City. In 2006, another illegal body parts scam was discovered in North Carolina. I am confident that although no local media has agreed to put in print what happened to me in Tupelo or the trigger-happy, intoxicated assistant DA, I know in my heart that my coming forward has brought national attention to this terrible and illegal black market.

Friends staying with us in Osaka had a friend in the marathon. We woke up to Japanese news coverage of the bomb that day, and we were all worried like crazy. Turns out the friend had finished the race long before the bombs, and was already back at their hotel.

I encouraged the runner to get to the airport way ahead of time for their return flight, because it is going to be crazy TSA time again for a while.

If I say this kind of shit makes me want to stay in Japan, have the terrorists already won?

no, but nobody actually pays attention to this shit.  it just goes around the internet before it hits the drain, which goes right past irl into a pool of internet turds.   People who do take it seriously are just bored people who are too dumb to matter.
