i do have my mind made up about what console im getting - but it doesn't have to do with stuff like this. i am genuinely curious how the bone at 720p comes out looking pretty goddam good up against the ps4 at 900p. all the sfegs hoping for a 1080p powerhouse were deluding themselves from the very start - but 900p is a hell of a lot better direction to be heading into next gen than 720p.

Nah, it's pretty obvious even in the preview thumbnail. The textures are obviously higher res on the PS4, the edges don't flicker because the resolution is higher and the AA is there/better. Framerate, too.

But yeah, pretty much a GUN situation. Which reminds me of its horrendous PC port.

GUN was an HD port before HD ports.  No additional effort besides higher resolution.  This looks closer to something like Far Cry Instincts Predator.  There are other comparisons that show how much better the water looks on PC/PS4/XB1.  And it's nice that something is improved.  iirc the one notable improvement to AC3 on PC was the snow deformation.

There are plenty of PC gamers who legitimately care more about image quality and framerate than dark1x ever did.  If I can't get a game running at max settings, 1080p, 60fps, I just put it aside and wait for better hardware. 

dark1x basically stopped giving a crap about 60fps once the PS2 era ended and Sony devs stopped trying to deliver that kinda performance


Still, I hope this turns out well for dark1x.  We were quite friendly in private despite our many squabbles.  Last I heard of him, he was happily married to a French lady and was planning to move to France.

Dark10x has always been a cheerleader for certain platforms while bordering on concern-troll for others... Digital Foundry comparisons have routinely made huge pronouncements over the nitpickiest of observations, and GAF has been taking their opinion prima facie without bothering to do any investigation themselves -- it's been kind of funny to watch them get caught out by that bad capture, throwing everything in to question. We are perhaps about to venture towards the nadir of pre launch ps4 hype, it will obviously be nowhere near as bad as xbone, but I get the sense of expectations re-aligning to reality, and the possibility of emotional backlash in the offing. It's nothing to do with anything Sony have done wrong, it's their obnoxious fanbase having press ganged every thread and believing their own fumes. Every non victory is like a huge embarrassment. Calling for the banning of Leadbetter and DF is pathetic.

I like the poster well enough but his double standard on preferring shittier console framerates becuase they are "out of his control" vs. clearly superior (and still not perfect, mind you) PC image quality is just absurd.
