Maybe. But Islam without a caliphate is still harmful. An Indian muslim leader gave the guys who did the attack in Paris 8 million. With a caliphate, there would be someone to go to the media and denounce that. Without it, you have scared people like Lager-san who label all Muslims as violent lunatics. No united representation means no voice. I think that's much worse than the alternative. I never really said the pope speaks for all christians, but at the very least, he's a guy people can go to as a known leader and representative and helps people recognize that there are various viewpoints and ideas and schisms within Christianity. Islam, as it is now, is just seen as Islam without one care in the world towards differentiating Muslim viewpoints. Even if the caliphate doesn't represent all Muslim views, he doesn't have to. So long as he represents *a* view.
