Seattle had one timeout? If so, I don't think it was a horrible decision. Pass on second down. Incomplete stops the clock. Run it on third. Call a time out if needed so you can run it on fourth. If they run it on second and don't get it, they'll have to call a time out then call a pass on third or risk having one less opportunity to score.

Think the actual play call of a slant was dumb cos it could lead to an int. Should have been a pass where only his WR or no one could get it.

Probably the biggest example of overthinking something in sports, ever. Before lining up the Patriots and everyone in the stadium figured Lynch would run the ball. That's not a good excuse to do something unexpected or try to catch the Patriots off guard. You're on the one yard line. It's not like you're at the 10 yard line with Calvin Johnson or Dez Bryant out wide - passing elsewhere would make sense since Johnson/Bryant/elite WRs would be double teamed. Lynch got positive yardage every time he touched the damn ball. Give him the ball lol. Even if he got stuffed you have one timeout left...

How many times have you guys seen a team score a TD on a passing play on 2nd and goal? Hundreds of times, right?

You're outraged about the call because it was intercepted, but coaches call passing plays in that scenario all the time.

Not when you're trailing by 4, with 40 on the clock in the 4th, in the SUPER BOWL and you're you've got the downs to go for a run

I don't even mind the pass play. But at LEAST do a play action with Wilson bootlegging off of it. That way he can chuck it out of bounds or try to run it in if it's covered.

For sure.

However you have a top 5 ALL TIME power back and you're on the 1 yard line. Lynch gets that TD 9 times out of 10.

Patriots deserved the game anyways. They drove up and down on that Seattle D and Wilson had about 3 or 4 amazing catches that bailed him out.

To be honest Brady didn't look like Tom Brady of old either. I mean yes he got 4 td's...but he didn't throw a pass longer than 23 yards and one of his two INT's had me scratching my head for quite a while.

Overall though, great game for the Pats in what was the worst officiated playoff in NFL history.

I'm still in shock. After the Seattle GB game I thought no one could possibly lose a game in a dumber fashion than GB, with McCarthy giving the game away. But now there's no debate, Seattle just committed what is arguably the worst choke/decision in US sports history.

Usually "we should have won the game" is an excuse for failure. The Dallas Detroit game is a perfect example: yes the refs fucked us but we had multiple chances to win that game and failed to do so. 3 points in the second half, horrible decisions, game ending turnovers. But here...if Lynch runs the ball they win the game, period. If Russell calls an audible, which IMO a Manning or Brady type would have, they win the game. No questions asked.

Crazy too early prediction: Seattle won't make the playoffs next season. I don't see how a team can come back from that, or trust their coach again. There were reports of players openly ripping the play call in the locker room and to the media. Now Russell will get his big contract, Lynch is likely gone, and that team has no one to replace him. You can't live on 3-4 huge pass plays a game.

My last Seattle prediction was wrong, I know. But this situation is too historic not to acknowledge.

What if they call three running plays in a row, and the Pats stuff them with a valiant goal line stand? That would have been a perfectly reasonable possibility, since the Pats had stopped Lynch for no gain several times in the game already.

Hell, what if they ran one running play and Lynch fumbled?
:beli

How many times did they stuff Lynch in the fourth quarter? That defense was tired and stunned by the Kearse catch. It was the perfect time to punch them in the face with a run. Even if he fails you get another shot. You can't tell me Marshawn Lynch can't get one yard on two tries.

Hell, a bootleg or screen pass would have been fine for the first shot. I wouldn't trust Wilson with anything else. Not because he sucks, but because I'm on the one fucking yard line with Beast Mode in the backfield.

In hindsight, Patriots deserved that win. Brady's excellent analysis of Seahawks defense in the 4th was crazy to me. Also, for all the trash talk, Seahawks kind of deserved to be humbled. We knew the team was arrogant, but not to the point of self destructive hubris where you throw the ball on 1st and goal (was it first or second?) on the 1 yard line, with 40 seconds on the clock, when you're trailing by four and lynch is ready to go. Like, as a neutral party, as someone sick and tired of the Brady dynasty, that was a well deserved win.
