After the ridiculous clash between the games press pre-launch hype and post-launch reviews for Titanfall and Destiny I think I am about done with the mainstream games media.
It's the "hardcore" gaming community as a whole, not just the media. I don't even pay attention to the games media, but on GAF alone I've witnessed months and months of hardcore splooging over Destiny. The kinda frothing demand that can never be fully satisfied, not matter how good the game turns out to be. I figured out years ago it's much better to ignore the hype train (maybe occupy your life with better things) and just wait until the game is actually out to decide if it's worth my time or not.
this is what gaming is now for many gaffers. a decade of mechanical stagnation combined the rise of superpublisher, taking ever more conservative, marketing driven measures to shore up an eroding industry has sucked the life from their hobby.
to the traditional console centric gamer, all that is left is hype. a thread on some drab looking wank like driveclub or the order can push dozens of pages right now, these games will barely register in people's memories six months after release. the hype to them is literally more fun than the games.
it's like drag fox hunting. they've replaced the fox with a bin bag full of turds dragged by a quad bike, but as long as they get to wear their faggy red outfits, blow a horn and ride around like dickheads all day, they can convince themselves they're having just as much fun as ever.
