Smash 3ds was dog shit

no it wasnt

The controls were. Shame because I could get behind a portable Smash.

Yeah, TBH I couldn't play for more than an hour, usually. Especially cause the circle pad kept getting my gross hand sweat in it and it would refuse to return to neutral position. :-\

Other than that it was a solid game. Probably the best showcase of the hardware, too. 60fps with those models, I said whoah.   :whew

Really jonesing to play it on the big screen with a real controller though.

watching Smash at EVO was boring to watch compared to BB, KoF, etc.).

:comeon

The rest of the EVO pack was fascinating for me to watch as an outsider, but what sets Melee apart to me is how fast and aerial it is compared to other "real" 2D fighters. Oh look, a flat stage where everyone's rooted to the ground 90% of the time. Yawn-aroma. Compared to:

Look at that little rat fly, constantly hopping on platforms, flitting in the air, dash-dancing, fast-falling, wavedashing, all a bunch of tiny frenetic movements that combine to create something fluid. The later Smash games don't match Melee's speed, but it's that degree of variety in the gameplay, with multiple characters and stages that all play completely differently and different from the fighting game norm that attracts me. Plus ninthing nostalgia and playing at parties.

Smash isn't for you and normal fighters aren't for me. C'est la vie.

Basically.  I think EVO 2012 sold me on KOF13, but a lot of people might not feel the same way.

Same with EVO 2014 selling me on BB.

EVO Smash matches didn't serve to sell me on Smash Bros as a whole, and I don't really think that's going to change.  And I'm someone who fucking LOVES aerial attacks in ARPGs, FTGs, etc. and would main people who specializes in aerials, so... *shrug*  But you're certainly right. The other Smash games definitely aren't as fast as Melee at all.

Different strokes.  Doesn't bother me that people like it.  It just gets pretty weird when they get obsessive about it or it's the only thing they talk about on an almost constant basis.  Or if they try to joke around with a reference to the game almost constantly without realizing that other people mightn't get their inside jokes.

Well then most Nintendo games aren't gonna be for you, haha.  How do you feel about Mario Kart?

Haven't played one outside of SMK, MK Wii (when we had a games night for our university club), and 1 game of MKDS via local MP when I was in undergrad chem years ago.  The 3D games I've played generally trigger my motion sickness, especially a few of the MK8 tracks I played at my cousin's place.  I think it's waaaaaaay better with other people around you, though.  Even if I got dizzy while playing MK8, and even though I was in first place and didn't know where the other players were partly because the items in the game are weirdly balanced, I still had a slightly better time with it because I played it with my cousin.

I like Nintendo games.  I think a lot of them can be fun.  Like, Kirby Triple Deluxe is one of the best games I've played this year.  I thought Animal Crossing: New Leaf was one of the best design games of 2013.  I thought 3D World was one of the better, and most engaging platformer game, of 2013.  So if I didn't like Nintendo games, I wouldn't have bought a 3DS or Wii U.  It's just not my job to fellate a company's every single game or what decisions they make because I'm just here to play video games and have fun after a long day.   Too much fellatio's tiring, brehs.

I just don't get much out of the ones that rely hard on multiplayer because my friends generally have other priorities.  Therefore, Smash isn't really for me, and I found the 3DS one to control awkwardly, especially since the platform didn't feel like it was ergonomically-sound enough for extended play.  I get Pokemon because I was in the age group that "got" Pokemon in the 90s, but I generally prefer playing other RPGs over RPGs that emphasize monster-catching.

ps: sorry andrex :(

If everyone liked the same things life would be boring. :heart

:heart you too, Andrex.

Smash 3ds was dog shit

Honest question: what do you mean? Because it was another Smash game and you hate Smash? Because 3DS controls aren't conducive to this? Or is there something specific about the game that you didn't like?

At the risk of being ostracized for blatant Nintendo fanboyism, I'm kind of split on Smash 3DS. On the one hand, I think it's a solid Smash game and impresses the hell out of me given what they pulled off on the 3DS. On the other, I'd have honestly rather they just focused on the console version myself. But aside from not liking the 3DS as a controller, I don't know if I can agree that it's "dog shit" unless you just hate Smash, which is fine.

Crap controls
Not fun
Is Smash Brothers

Was looking forward to it until I played the demo remembered I don't like smash. And those are all the words I'm going to write on a video game right now

The only game mechanic I've seen copied to Smash is the intensity meter thing and that shit's actually pretty cool. ???

That said, Dark Pit is a fucking stupid idea for another character and is even more worthless than Dr. Mario and Pichu put together. He was literally an alt costume in Brawl, Sakurai.

smash is cool if you like hopping around hitting buttons all the time like a spaz while fighting games are much more about out-thinking your opponent. Traditional 2D fighters and 3D fighters are much more fun and competitive imo. Smash can be really fun if you play it in short bursts. Get's insanely boring after a while though.

I'm really glad gaming is so wide that it can cater to many people's different tastes.

Too much fellatio's tiring, brehs.

Preach.

I get Pokemon because I was in the age group that "got" Pokemon in the 90s, but I generally prefer playing other RPGs over RPGs that emphasize monster-catching.

Ahhh, now that's a whole other can of worms. I enjoy Pokemon so much because the competitive metagame is lightyears from just "monster catching." :P

:heart you too, Andrex.

smash is cool if you like hopping around hitting buttons all the time like a spaz while fighting games are much more about out-thinking your opponent.

Do you think there are no headgames in Smash? The series is no different from others in terms of needing to read your opponent. It's why people are still playing it at major tournaments 13 years after release.

Besides that, faster gameplay necessitates more skill, better precision, and quicker reaction times.

The best soul food on the west coast is Bonnie Jean's in San Diego (City Heights). Wedged between a pawn shop and a liquor store. It's like San Francisco sourdough, the lingering struggle in the atmosphere is transfered right into the food.

Low key a lot of Korean joints have really dope fried chicken tbh. Kyochon is prob. the best in California.

I don't like Smash 4. My local friends and I already traded it in cause we got really bored of playing it. I have a hard time believing the WiiU version would be any different.

Expecting a Smash game to be good. :lol

Hey there's a fine line between good and something vaguely worth spending $40 on. I figured that even a slightly better Brawl would be fine to pick up and play on the go with friends, but the 3DS's shit controls plus Sakurai's Kid Icarus fetishism and his inability to come up with good, new gameplay modes/features had to go and prove me wrong.  :fbm

The Kid Icarus fetishism is probably the thing that is starting to grate on me the most. Kid Icarus 3DS was so bad, stop forcing it and its shitty game mechanics on me Sakurai.

I don't "get" Smash.  I think it's a bit boring outside of maybe the Nintendo fanservice that allows people to reminisce about their childhoods or whatever.  But whatever depth seems to be there feels easier to grasp than an actual FTG (which generally takes a lot of practice and time investment to keep up with everything; watching Smash at EVO was boring to watch compared to BB, KoF, etc.).   I assume that the draw of it is that its easily-accessible for people who don't play FTGs, or for people who want to relive their childhoods in some way while playing with other people locally.

Most of the draw seems to be local MP, but... like, I'm old and most of my friends don't live around here, or they have better things to do with their time that isn't playing video games like drink, take care of their kids, etc.

But yeah, I'll agree with the Sakurai Kid Icarus criticism.  It's a bit odd to see it, and its design principles, consistently elevated as opposed to evenly distributed cohesively among the other IPs.

ps: sorry andrex :(

I like Smash multi, in a room, with real people, with items on and not stuck on the shitty flat stages. Basically its a fun party game and people who try to make it anything else are weird.

I also use Kid Icarus as a barometer to judging how insane of a Ninthing someone is, because no sensible person can defend that game.

The best soul food on the west coast is Bonnie Jean's in San Diego (City Heights). Wedged between a pawn shop and a liquor store. It's like San Francisco sourdough, the lingering struggle in the atmosphere is transfered right into the food.

Koreans run all the best Teriyaki places in Washington. And down in my neighborhood in LA they run the best Philly Cheese steak joint.

No. They all come with the tablet controller. You have to buy a Wii remote or Wii U "Pro" controller separately. It's to push their "off-TV play" despite the fact that consumers aren't really biting on it besides a minor segment.

LOL nah. Well my buddy Paul does. He was a "bad" drinker. Last time he drank he got arrested for going 125 miles an hour in his Corvette on a highway by a cop that busted him earlier THE SAME DAY for doing 105 when he was sober. Blew what they called a "super dui" and decided right then and there it wasn't something he should continue to fuck with.

My buddy Rev just doesn't like drinking, it doesn't suit him.
YMMV

I'm 29 and have never had a drink. No particular reason, just don't want to do it...don't want to roll the dice on whether I might be the alcoholic type, don't want to compromise my own inhibitions and embarrass myself.
[close]

I have a couple of friends who have always been non-drinkers and I have a buddy who hasn't drank in 30 years

But do they act like it's heroin? A beer or two isn't going to turn a Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hdye the way some people seem to think.

Got arrested for doing dumb shit sober.
Got arrested for doing dumb shit drunk.

I don't think alcohol is the cause here. Your friend may just be distinguished mentally-challenged.

So the regular Wii U comes with a non tablet controller?
if you have old Wiimotes from the Wii you can use those on the Wii U in lieu of a tablet. The tablet so far only works well with certain games and their multiplayer.

What pisses me off the most is these morons blaming our ancestors for the sad state sub-Saharan Africa and other shit holes find themselves in. It's like they don't realise that western civilization is the greatest gift that can be bestowed upon a people, so much so that it would make more sense for non-whites to pay us royalties for it than for us to pay them reparations.
Japan understood this in the 19th century and adopted a lot of our values, that's why they became a superpower.

I didn't know you were apart of the inherent movement, bae. White liberals are far more tolerant to transgenders than blacks tho.
