See Alcoholism as a purely personal choice rather than a combination of that and factors like genetic vulnerability, environmental exposure/culture, and developmental aspects brehs

:ufup

Use anecdotes to justify your positions brehs

:ufup

:yeshrug

I grew up with alcoholics in my family. I have no use for them nor people who want to tell me it's okay and it's not their fault.

So more accurately "Take your own personal sample and hate an entire type of people breh"

:ufup

There ya go.

And like I implied in the last post... I don't care :heh . Obesity has  clear, demonstrable epidemiological features as well.
Yup. If you eat so much that you need a mobility scooter it's not just a bad habit and more of a compulsion. Again, this doesn't make it OK or excuse eating yourself to an early grave. Neither does it change my reaction if I have to sit next to a sweaty, morbidly obese dude on the bus or whatever. I will even laugh when someone makes a good joke at a fat persons expense.

It does make me more likely to pity those people though, rather than have utter contempt for them.

I'm actually pretty much with you here. Except overeating is a bad habit in my opinion. More so the lack of exercise required to utilize the calories of the 4 pieces of cake you shoved down your throat after dinner. I love to eat, and therefore I work out every day. This is the way of things.

i don't pity them or hate them for their choice of being a fatass really doesn't hurt anyone else (except people sitting next to them on a plane and their sex life)

Overeating isn't just a bad habit. Food is a drug and people that have trouble coping with stress and depression use it in the same way people would use hard drugs or alcohol.

It's not as much the eating part that is the problem in my opinion, I eat enough for two people. It's the complete lack of physical activity that tags along with it that is the problem.

And I mean I love to eat. Yesterday I had 2 plates of burnt ends (thanks mama), ham, all the fixings, two pieces of cake, and then had a midnight snack of macaroni and cheese. That's a lot of food.

i have never had a belly. It isn't what you eat, it's what you do with it.

I'd say whatever makes someone stoop so low as to eat a stick of butter as a snack is the problem. Physical activity is good in any case, but I'd say removing the underlying cause for the compulsion would be best. It's why people that do manage to lose the weight end up re-bounding.

Yeah but that assumes you can exercise. I have a friend that could easily eat enough for two people. Worked out like a mad man. In working out he got a serious injury. And couldn't exercise. All that food turned him fat.  He'd get better then go try to work out again but then fall into another injury or reinjure himself. Dude's fat now. Moral of the story? Never work out.

I can't argue with that. Adjusting your diet isn't easy for someone who is use to a certain level of consumption unless they are self aware of the reduction in energy required to function . Happens more often then you think by the way. A lot of the guys at the gym get hurt and fall off. Some come back, some don't.

That's why I don't pity or laugh at overweight people.

Now let's take it further. What about people with severe asthma and can only manage moderate (at best) exercise? Are they supposed to subsist on lettuce for the rest of their life?

I know a woman that's so obese that she can no longer walk unassisted. She was a candidate that gastric bypass surgery and posted on a family message board asking what people thought and a bunch of people were like "Don't take the easy way out!" I was like "Bitch, she can't walk down the stairs without a cane and getting winded half way. How is she supposed to "work" 250 pounds off?"

This devolves into live to eat or eat to live. Completely up to the person and I would not dare weigh in on their choice.

Again I never insult overweight people for this reason.

Now if you're going to take this further and say "Well alcoholics suffered X so they are the same" I'm just going to go ahead and say nobody ate 6 pieces of cake, blacked out,  and beat their wife because of it.

Edit: and for the record fuck those people who insulted your friend.

she should walk down those stairs as much as she can each day until it doesn't make her "winded."  then push it a little further.  that's what everyone has to do...it's not exercise without exertion and pain.

and she could change her diet to chicken breast, tofu, beans, lentils, rice, nuts, veggies, fruits, and water.  It's really not the end of the world.  Healthy people eat like that most of the time with big, unhealthy meals only a few times a month.  People who drink soda and eat sugary and salty snacks all day every day are overindulgent, plain and simple.

If she gets as much activity as possible in a day and eats as healthily as possible with no results and only increased weight, then she's part of some .00001% with freak genetics and i'm sorry.

Merry belated Christmas everyone!

Saying a paedophile has a "disease" is a much bullshit as saying an alcoholic has a "disease" it's a fucking terrible use of words to describe a choice made by said person.

Total bullshit.

You're an alcoholic because your dumb ass won't stop drinking and you're a paedophile because you're fucking ass can't stop picturing FUCKING children as a sexual object.

Throw 'em both in the bushes.

Both are in the most up to date ICD, so yep, diseases.  Esch is right.

So is obesity for that matter, but let's just strike that from the record and call it a pleasure.

Technically correct is best correct.

In the case of pedo and ephebo it's arguing over semantics. At the end of the day both seek out sex with partners who are too young. Every time it's brought up it feels more like an excuse trying to be pushed in as educated argument. I've never heard it brought up without an air of belittling it as a problem.

No need to get technical about awful behavior.

It's a slippery slope argument.  These perverts basically want to normalize liking underaged girls.  So they start breaking them off into categories.  In their mind, liking a 15 year old is better than liking an 8 year old.  So someone will agree to that.  Then the next argument is "why should we treat ephebos like we would pedos?  Shouldn't they get lighter sentences or maybe nothing at all?" and so on.  The truth is that the consent laws are there for the 18 year old boyfriend with a 16 year old girlfriend, not for a 35 year old man and a 16 year old girl.  I'd wager that the average age of a gaffer is somewhere in the early-mid 20s, far too old to be wondering about if it is okay to bang a 14 year old girl.

It's best to shut these arguments down right away by calling them a pedo sympathizer and let them sputter about as a response.  These sick fucks don't deserve any more of anyone's time.

Quote
Honestly my theory on that group is that they are so universally rejected by people their age or older that they gravitate to those young enough that they feel they can control.

Shit is sad brehs

Most gaffers who would talk about ephebophilia likely spent their teen years in front of a computer monitor.  The time when it was kosher to fuck a teenage girl, they were too busy spending their weekends on the internet.  So the window of opportunity closed completely shut on them.  They're likely in their 20s, unemployed or underemployed, no friends, probably never had a girlfriend, has an extensive porn and anime collection, and either living in some studio apartment or with their parents.  Their lives are miserable failures so they want to revert back to when they were younger and life didn't seem so shitty for them.  It's why they retreat further into anime, porn, video games, and so on.  Liking teenage girls is just part of the overall package to try to recapture a lost part of their youth.  Since they have no friends, there is nobody to really step in and tell these sad sacks that they're losing their grip on reality.  They just hunker down in front of a monitor of some kind and escape reality a little more.  Fortunately for society, these sad fucks are more likely to eat a bullet than to follow through on their urges.
