The thread gets better as you read it, as he starts to beg that anime gets bigger and then he basically dismisses the Final Fantasy games as being "generic"

It's a classic "I think this game series is the best and I want more from it, so why isn't it more popular?" thread

MGS2 has five hours of cutscenes and codec story moments, random codec convos aren't counted. MGS3 has around four hours of cutscenes. MGS4 also has around five hours of cutscenes.

Sources are youtube vids. MGS2 has more cutscene time than gameplay time depending on how you play the game. MGS3 is 50/50 depending on how you play the game.

Kojima is the man I blame the most for attempting to make games more "cinematic". He's the one who turned making your game into a shoddy B-Movie into the big thing in AAA games.

My favorite variation of this theme is "publish y is sitting on a goldmine of unused IP!" because if any game publisher out there thought there was a way to make money from anything they've ever made they would be using it. If Capcom thought they could make any kind of money on Mega Man or Castlevania they'd be shitting them out.

the difference between MGS and something like The Order, is that a game like MGS3 has deep, complex gameplay with many layers of gameplay systems that play off each other. The Order seems to be just a stock TPS with nothing else going for it.

So MGS gets it right. You have the cinematic aspect but you also have the gameplay to back it up.

MGS was weird given that it was completely up its own ass plot wise, but still had this pulpy humour to it and was unabashedly a video game; complete with fiddly mechanics, arcadey pace and bouts of irreverence. not just a sackboy trophy in the middle of a dour QTE ridden corridor murder slog.

Eh, kinda but again there's still gameplay systems and the ability to skip all of that and the codecs if you want to just play. I think a lot of the "cinematic" games also pull similar. I know Uncharted allows you to skip all cutscenes. The Order is the only one to attempt to pad it's "lack of gameplay" out with unskippable cutscenes.

I told her that I felt like I was being treated like a child, and that if I want to do things myself at home my way, I should be more than able to. They were packed, so it took them that long [45 minutes] to get the manager for me. In the mean time, I was paying bills, and talking to other people in the customer service line (hint: most of them weren't happy campers either!).

Anyone read about the Hearthstone competitive community getting catfished by a Korean "woman" player? Her moniker was MagicAmy and she kind of burst onto the scene the past few months.  She won an online tournament of some note and then was invited to join one of the top teams.

Of course, the sad nerdlings who sit in twitch chat all day were begging for her to stream daily. She kept putting it off and off, but opened a website instead. Then she was invited to live events, but each time something traumatic happened even though she had free travel to go to these things. Eventually she showed up to a few events (a girl of Korean descent), but she was a terrible player when she played live.

So today, a former discredited member of her 'team' outted her on Reddit. The place exploded. Doxxing happened and they learned it was some Canadian dude that was posing as her and he would send some girl to these events to pose as 'MagicAmy' or would have her appear on streams and in chats.

It's strange out there...

AAA video games have been mostly god-awful so far this generation. I can't think of a single full priced $60 game so far that I've genuinely liked a lot. Infamous was ok. Dragon Age got boring.

I don't agree. There are absolutely some games I've liked this gen both first party and third party. Whether there are enough of them is a separate debate.

I think the problem is when everybody gets fixated on a few system exclusives and then it turns into what happened here with the order. (Or to use something on the other side, The Master Chief Collection).

I didn't ban him. I almost never ban people for arguing with me because I know it looks super petty. But I'll also note that despite what typically goes on in the more loosely moderated community threads, they're still on the forum. I get that they feel tucked away in the corner, but people get banned all the time in Community for treating it like an IRC channel or a thread like this off-site where you're free to whine about the site/moderation.

I guess I could argue to have the ban undone, but I won't because his argument was terrible and the guy had been banned several times previously for what I might describe as "lacking empathy" (quotes employed because that's what I was being accused of for asserting that one can't bully a commercial product).

But I thank you for your concern Mr Gilhaney.

lulz.

Yeah the passion   insanity these people have on both sides for this stuff is just so fucking hilarious but it seems so alien. Like I try to remember if I cared this much when I was younger. I mean I'm absolutely certain I was a fanboy of companies but there were no communities like these places to sort of cheerlead this stuff. So I think it makes the whole thing worse because they really can separate into these camps and pretend all this bullshit matters.

It's a videogame. You may like it or not like it and both positions are equally feasible. But nobody nowadays wants to talk about their personal feelings about a game. They want to be part of the crowd on either side either bashing it or loving it. It's so odd. Instead of 90% of videogames being average like they are and have always been and that being a give-in, you get these weird protracted battles over things like Drive Club, The Order, Ryse, etc.

It's so weird that most of the traffic is driven by the most average of games.

From "the age of sony is finally over" to defending drive club.

From hitting your mom cause you can't watch south park, to whatever the fuck it is he's doing on GAF now.

Just goes to show we can all become better people with Christ in our hearts.
