Is it abuse if your wife just ignores your bitch ass?  ::)

If he acts remotely like he seems online I'd ignore his dumb ass too.

at that point i'd consider him just being himself pretty abusive

I'm going to go out on a real short limb here and say it's probably a very bad idea to ask that pile of socially inept goofballs how to fix your marriage of 24 years.

Your marriage is older than the majority of the members and twice as old as their mental state.

Does anyone here practice DWM (Dating while married)? #1
And I don't mean cheating nor swinging.

Long story short: My wife and I have been married for 24 years and we have kind of fallen out of love with each other. We aren't fighting or hate each other or have major disagreements. My wife was suggesting having an open relationship for some time and now has been pressing more for it. Neither of us want to get divorced. We have 4 kids, one of which is special needs and really needs both of us living together to get the help they need. We both realize they could end in disaster but we are setting ground rules and being open and honest with each other.

So, anyone here do this? How do you mean people? How do you explain to people you meet to date about the relationship?

It's like they want to try a separation but not take that step as its like admitting defeat and are coming up with some half-assed version of it so no one has to move. I know a few people for who a separation helped clarify things that couldn't be while together and they got back together.

Especially if the separation is mostly mutual.

I don't think the only two viable options are "failing marriage" or "divorce and move on."

Really what's so inherently bad about trying an open relationship, becoming swingers, etc...?

I've said it in another thread.  I've met plenty of swingers that are plenty happy. But these are the couples that do everything together And have a very strong relationship. That works.  But I've never seen Open relationships work, nor swinging where the couple doesn't do it together,  that I've never seen work.  I think the general rule I see is that threesomes and foursomes work so long as both partners are secure and cool. But going off on your own? That never works

But again,  it only works if you already have a good marriage.  It doesn't solve marriage problems. In fact it'll make them worse

The problem with open marriages is that they are rarely ever equal. Usually it's one partner that is so afraid to be alone (either emotionally or financially) that they acquiesce to the other because they know that's the only way they can keep them (sort of).

So, it's not a partnership built on trust or love, but one of fear or self-loathing. That's not sustainable ... or healthy.

I've only known of two open marriages. or at least I thought they were open, because apparently the husbands were running around backpage and on their coworkers and then decided to retroactively legitimize it by pressuring the wife into being open. lo and behold the wife is just unhappy at home with the kids and the husbands just keep on keepin on. totally miserable relationship that exists because people are too afraid to say it's over.

going open to fix something is just dooming it to fail harder. can you imagine being at home pouring the cereal out for the kids saturday morning while they ask where mommy is, and biting your tongue from saying she's tired out from a series of deep dickings at some dude's house? :heh

In my experience the guy "thinks" this 20 something bartender is into him and spend a ton of time there. He then somehow convinces his fat biscuit sucking wife that open is the way to go. She relents....then loses like 40 pounds and is hitting more pipe than Richard Pryor, and he is getting L's all over the place. She finally dumps him because he becomes a jealous fucknot.

the mentality that any boss signing your paycheck at a huge national retail store cares about one person's personal performance is what's most sad about this.  even if you were #1 selling widgets month after month, middle management isn't gonna speak on your behalf to higher ups who determine wages.  in fact they will more likely hate, and try to hold you back to make their stores look better from a sales perspective thanks to your hard work.

I feel bad for the guy. He's always had the dream of getting into the FBI or SS (or something like that). He's posted about it multiple times on GAF over the past 7+ years.

That should be a lesson: Never share your dreams aloud.

The shittiest part about retail is usually your 'big break' is taking over a store that is such a clusterfuck that they will take a chance on a person who has moved up the ladder (instead of sending a seasoned person to die there). So congrats, you now have to turn around a store with chronic theft, poor employee morale in a dying part of town. Good luck!

I feel somewhat bad for him, because yes, he's worked hard, got a degree, and was always hoping to get into the Secret Service or some other federal law enforcement agency.

However, my sympathy is lessened at how he thumbed his nose at the idea of applying to any municipal/uniformed policing gig.

My all time favorite retail story is the assistant manager where I worked at Gamestop who went around the city and won all the in store F-Zero contests at all the Gamestops and took the prizes.  They had a big tournament for all the people who got 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at a store's grand opening with a big giftcard prize and some games and shit.  He won that as well, but the regional manager recognized him, took his prizes away, and demoted him to supervisor at which point he came in crying for his next shift.  He was also trying to become a cop but they kept denying him, probably because he was too fucking stupid.
