Look at that nasty shit. Orange/grey logo on a white/blue template. Tacky gradients in the logo with a schizophrenic 'N' that alters between hard edges and curved lines with no rhythm to its shape.

The text of "NeoGAF" is some disgusting italicized all caps space-boner joke font. And "believe" ain't funny or relevant in 2013. It only works as this dumb ironic trite joke, but it's so lazy/basic I'm surprised it took off.

That said, the update is nice with the night theme. Colors have consistency to them. The logo has been improved. Less gradient, the 'N' mellowed out a bit.

The logo needs to decide whether it's 2D or 3D. Top half looks 2D but bottom half's still slinging that gradient. The font is better and the text color reflects the logo. All around improvement.


It's hard to believe so many of you liked the logo originally. It was pretty jarring going from Gaming Age -> NeoGAF. I thought I remembered some backlash then. Obviously, we all got accustomed to the new look (stockholm syndrome up in this bitch).

Honestly, with splatoon I'd be interested to see how that 137k matches up to the Wii U install base. I mean, sure 137k ain't much but if it's on 80% of the install base?

Yeah, sometimes the data arrives and there really isn't any interesting conclusion to be drawn. 137K certainly doesn't herald Splatoon as the next big franchise, but it's also difficult to conclude that it's a flop given the platform it's on. 137K for 3 days of sales for a quirky shooter on the Wii U? This certainly isn't cause for popping open the champagne bottles (or sparkling grape juice as that may be more appropriate for the user base in question). But it doesn't strike me as some sort of disaster either. That sounds about right to me.

They are, but like the "Steambox" it's $1000 for an alienware PC with parts that can be had for much cheaper. Unless Valve is willing to eat a loss (which they aren't), Steamboxes are dead in the water. Eh, maybe flop is too strong but I'm kinda shocked with the PR campaign it had that it sold so low along with the fact Nintendo exclusives usually sell really well. MK8 had the same situation last year where it only had a weekend and sold triple Splatoon's number. Maybe the lack of enthusiasm from the "only ships with 5 online maps" reveal killed momentum. I wouldn't be shocked if it has a long tail though.

Maybe I'm just wishing Nintendo to get a proper boot in the ass and get off the Wii U ASAP and move on.

And I wish it was a Dreamcast. Dreamcast had some 3rd party support at least.

There's a billion missed games in past generations to really give a fuck and there will always be games so there's even less reason to give a shit. Yeah, I agree here. I don't ever expect this game to be a huge hit, but at the same time kind of too early to write it off as a flop too.

Valve has coasted on their prior success and Steam success too long. They style themselves as "gaming for gamers" and thats true they are. But you're not going to get mass growth with how they're dealing with the steambox. I'm just waiting for an ASUS or HP to come in with a cheap(er) consumer PC that's specifically targetted for connecting to TV and mass marketed.  Really it was Valve's main opportunity but it's hard to chastize them when they have steam and are fine filling the niche they're in.

Big budget games won't die. GTAV made a billion, dude. You have nothing to fear. Witcher 3 cost 15 million and it is doing very well. Like I said, these games are just likely to go somewhere else. Maybe consoles will become niches, we don't know. But the gaming industry will change, we just don't know how and can only predict. Might as well not worry about it, enjoy your entertainment as it comes, and get laughs from the fuckery. Even I, someone who has only played mobile games, and the occasional game on Steam for the last year am looking forward to Fallout 4 and FFXV, two games I doubt will come out this year. It may be two years before I purchase a new non-mobile game, but hey, I'm sure I'll enjoy them. Don't worry, be happy.
