Most of their first party games have been duds for quite some time now and I am a massive supporter of Sony's previous first party output. This is not the same Sony that gave us Rule of Rose, Parappa, Intelligent Qube, or Siren. I see nothing wrong with admitting that.

I'll take less over none existent save a crapy Swery game.

Tokyo Jungle, Rain, Puppeteer, Bloodborne, The Tomorrow Children, and so on we're better then whatever Japanese support MS has had since Lost Odyssey years ago.

The Last of Us, Uncharted, God of War, infamous, Bloodborne and so on duds compared to what? More Halo and Gears? None of these companies are out performing each other when it comes to exclusives.

Aside from Rain and Tomorrow People,  the rest of those are old. Bloodborne is also not niche.

God of War has never been good besides 2 and maybe the psp games. Uncharted lost steam years ago. Haven't played TLou but can't wait to so I can hate fuck it. Infamous was snoresville. Bloodborne probably is as overrated as the rest of Souls games.

Sony's definitely more willing to risk with more alternative games though, that's for sure. heavy Rain and Beyond are two examples.

Supporting Shenmue III is half the reason I am getting a ps4 besides getting my DraQu machine.

I can't help but internally laugh when people push that narrative, especially when the PS4 is seeing order of magnitude more exclusive releases each year compared to its console competitors. It's like pushing a Fox News esque narrative of bias reportage.

There is a difference between Sony's own output and Japanese devs that only make games for the PS3/PS4 because that's where their audience is. Sony output has been complete garbage minus The Last of Us in the past few years. Microsoft hasn't been that much better the past two years, but they got their act together this year.

When it comes to console features, backwards compatibility, media support, retooling/rebuilding the UI, Sony is in a coma compared to what Microsoft is doing with the Xbone.

Those Japanese devs are also seeing a massive market emerge on the PC for weeb games and a lot have said they want to do steam ports, so that market is starting to shrink as well. And I'm not sure Sony is going to place money hats on something like Senran Kagura just so PC gamers can't have it.

Generally MS got its shit together, Nintendo is having a difficult time but still putting out really good games. And Sony stans are pissed because those two won't just give up and they fear that PC Gaming Juggernaut getting more steam which has lead to shitposting and industrial accident levels of salt from them this generation. I mean, say what you can about Sega stans being deluded (been there, done that) but this generations console warriors are the worst because any improvement in the industry like companies actually fucking listening to their customers for once is met with derision because it's not their favoured brand name doing it (And especially since their brand dumped the notion of 1080P 60FPS and "Listening to the players" super fucking quickly once they had 20 million in people's homes. Don't get me wrong, stuff like building the list is fine. Ignoring your customers when they say "PSN is not good enough" and having an entire defence force on gaf to call those complainers "entitled" is not good at all).

Yet they've pretty much abandoned that one while Sony has at least been consistent offering off kilter games weather on retail or PSN.

You may not like God of War, Uncharted, and The Last of Us but I don't see how they fail compared to Gears, Fable, and halo. Same crap, apples and oranges. I looked at Scalebound vid and it's very very early. Right now in its very early alpha state it looks like an indie Monster Hunter, and not in a good way. Hope that works out.

The people that constantly complain about voice acting in videogames rarely separate the performance from the writing itself. The English performances in FFX are fantastic, the writing ranges from good or serviceable to dumbly whacky and overly simple. FF XIII, great voice work, terrible writing. 

So its not surprising that those same people herald all Japanese voice acting as superior, more "pure" (sometimes shit like you pointed out). For me, it comes down to what sounds cooler for the characters I'm watching. Cowboy Bebop in Japanese wouldn't feel right, while I'll probably never prefer JoJo in English because of my attachment to the characters and how they sound.

I agree. I'm not saying there's something wrong with preferences. I prefer Shenmue in Japanese because it evokes a specific atmosphere. Same thing with Yakuza. I also feel the same exact way about Jojo. But it has nothing to do with the experience being more "pure" or anything and usually, in many cases the Japanese voice acting often IS superior - especially for games like Yakuza - because Japan tends to respect voice actors more than in the west. But in the case of something like FFX, which was Square's first real effort with game voice acting, the JP voices are pretty bad. Not understanding what they're saying doesn't take away from them being bad either. But ultimately it comes down to preferences. If you sometimes watch stuff in English and some stuff in Japanese depending on your preference, that's cool. But the people who don't know Japanese, aren't trying to learn Japanese, but somehow always contend that it's better or that they totally NEED this Japanese voice track - even when they should be happy it's being translated to begin with () - that is what I will never understand.

I'm just bummed that the trademark filed for Arc the Lad a year or two ago never panned out, and also there's still no signs of Gravity Rush 2. First was so much fun once you got accustomed to the dizzying camera.

Honestly it's one of the deepest and most satisfying combat systems ever. Instead of ultra-monster-Super Saiyan SSSSJ4x1000 DMC combat, it's "How can I survive this fucking encounter" combat. God-tier boss fights. Diverse array of weapons that allow you to tackle any situation with multiple strategies. Really the only 3D action combat system I'd take over DS1 and Bloodborne is Ninja Gaiden 1.

I feel like I played a different game. A game where animations are long, slow and uncancellable but the enemy can cheat and cancel their animations and have way more options at any given moment than you ever will. I feel like in Souls games I have to be damn sure at a moment's notice that I am pressing the button I want because if not I'll be stuck in a 10 second animation that will probably result in me dying. And then half the time the camera does something fucking stupid and I die anyhow.

Really jank shit there, blocking and then punishing enemies during their recovery. Your right trigger buttons control your right hand and the left trigger buttons control the left? DMC1 is a really, really dated game nowadays. DMC3 has fantastic player mechanics, but it has dog shit art style and dog shit level design. Dark Souls 1&2 allow for a variety of builds, so combat is as fun as you want it to be.

Is the Souls series overrated? Yes. Is it secretly dog shit that people propped up for one reason or another? Nope.

I did lock on, but it sure sucked when I try to lock on to the enemy standing right in front of me and the game decides to lock on to a guy two stories above me and completely out of combat range.

Also I did use a shield. Then the game just became circle strafe, wait for enemy to do long animation, attack and hope the camera doesn't decide to screw you over or the ai doesn't cheat and cancel it's animation, and maybe roll around or something. I got past more than the first boss, so I feel like I gave it a pretty fair shake considering how janky it is.
