I don't get the furor (well aside from furor and internet going hand in hand). Acoustic matching isn't better than tag matching or vice versa. They totally serve different purposes.

The benefit to acoustic matching is that you can have shit tags and still get your files in the cloud (and tags "fixed" in the process). The downside to acoustic matching is that when bad matches happen (and they certainly do, often), there is NO way to fix them as you can't change the matched "properties" at all.

1. Bad matches are a product of bad tech. Apple is shitty at algorithms so iTunes Match was shitty, but don't blame acoustic fingerprinting itself.

2. Other services have no problem letting users fix bad matches. I don't know if iTunes Match did/does (is iTunes Match even still around after the clusterfuck that is Apple Music?), but Google has no problem giving me an option to fix bad matches. I've never had to use it (cause Google is unsurprisingly awesome at algorithm shit) but I have seen it.

I haven't really followed the XV drama (had no idea a live stream was going on, I would have caught it instead of playing 3ds) but what's the deal? The trailer looked boring and it sounds like they are still mum on details but I'd assume that if SE was going to blow their load on release hype they'd wait till TGS and not do it at Gamescom.

A release date would be nice but there are plenty of other great RPGs that are much higher on my list. (DQXI, Xenoblade X, Nier 2, SO5, and Exist Archive)

I'm really getting tired of Tabata's reasoning for all these changes....

Basically there are 0 reasons for him to be taking out characters or let alone making clones of the same character with a different name to replace the old one. He is self inserting himself so hard in this game that it should be considered borderline rape. If the new trailer isn't proof enough of his self-inserting, anything to do with Luna/Stella is.

Great turn based gameplay, tons of side content mixed in, with excellent soundtracks and rad art design. And I'd say there are very few Final Fantasy mega fans that are enamored with every Final Fantasy, comes down to preference why some people dig some Final Fantasy games and lament others. Story and writing preference is really random.

Even FFXIII has merit, and that game is hated beyond belief for good reason.

Most of us fell in love with FF when we were early teens. FF is good at many things, but it is a master of none. FF appeal depends on the FF, because each FF is different from the next. The one constant that I find that makes me love the entire series is mostly the music and soundtracks, excellent art design, a largely exploration focus in most of its games that creates a high sense of adventure, and a high capability of bringing the player into its world (very important for any rpg). My favorite FF's (5, 8, 12, 10-2, Tactics) are highly customizable games that allow for a variable range of freedom and play styles. That too, is a large appeal.

Doing games "journalism" as a side job, I've also heard rumors and such from PR people, but what is the fun in hearing them? But then again most of the rumors from the PR people from the companies are also fanboy hopes and dreams.

I quit that thread last night when people were going in on a re-design that I didn't even know was a re-design because the last time we saw the old design was like a decade ago. That and the weird narratives for characters who got like 2 seconds of screen time in old trailers was more than I can handle.

I mean I started with the first one on NES and at the time (I was in second grade) it blew my mind. Here I was used to games like Mario and Tetris and suddenly this game has a huge world, a story and lots of shit to do. The closest thing I had seen at that point was Zelda which didn't have anywhere near the story or expanse. When 4 (2 here) came out it was on SNES and the graphics and an even bigger story were pretty amazing to my pre-teen mind. By the time 7 came out on PS1 I was learning to program, had learned about emulation, had played the older ones that we never got and so on, but as a kid the number of games I got to play was a lot lower and I started gravitating for RPGs because I got more play time out of them etc. Final Fantasy was my first (console RPG anyhow, I had watched my dad play Bard's Tale, Ultima and some TSR Gold Box games on our C64) so yeah.

Grew up with the series and FF1, 4-7, and 9 were absolutely fantastic games. Nothing like them available on consoles at the time, even though DQ1 was my first RPG, FF1 looked miles ahead of it and that's where I first got hooked. Bought a SNES for 4, PS1 for 7, a PS2 for 10, and a PS3 for MGS4 and 13. Still hoping one day another game in the series will capture the magic like those will, though I am not sure it will be 15 (tbh I'm much more into menu/turn-based RPGs than action RPGs so apart from the modern setting even when it was still Versus I wasn't really that caught up in the hype).

But even the games I don't like tend to at least have great soundtracks and interesting/out there settings.
