Now the question is whether or not someone who is Japanese and knows about that is akin to someone who posts on gaf defending a busty animu mascot.
The westaboo equivalent of defending busty animu mascots is probably defending American imperialism.
Guess I'm a westaboo then. And heh, it is a several centuries old dragon by now.
You'll find many people idealizing the whole american mystique of cowboys, rock, hell's angels, wilderness, self made men, freedom and al. But I think it is a bit different though, it is an image that I suspect the majority of americans would accept consciously. It is also intersped with the attraction that wealth and freedom exerts which translates in the huge immigration to North America and Europe. There's a lot of myth going on there but the myth has some nuggets of truth to back it up : Western countries are indeed wealthy, enjoy a larger array of freedom, are somewhat open to immigration (though this is going in a more closed position for quite some time) and they do believe that they are a bit more exceptional or enlightened.
Weeabos seems to focus on a very niche and narrow segment of the culture which, as far as I know, is not necessarily reflecting a Japanese self image held by the majority (some parts of it being scorned) and is much more routed in fantasy than any projected reality : people may idealize the US through John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, the Marlboro Man characters on screen but I don't think anyone do that via Sleeping Beauty or Pinocchio, irregardless of Disney's movies qualities.
TLDR : Weeabos love actual Japan much like they love their waifus.
