 :aah

Some nice "hidden" stages in this game.  The F-Zero level goes around the Mute City track and plays the SNES theme, while the Gameboy level scrolls through a Kirby stage and forces you to stay inside the GB screen border.  Also saw a nicely-rendered boxing arena with an awesome Punch-Out!! NES remix.

This game seriously feels so much better than Brawl. I don't actually feel bored playing it for more than an hour this time and it's only a demo! The speed is much better, especially the ground speed (air is still somewhat on the slow side, but not as slow), and the attacks has more oomph in them. Out of 5 characters in the demo, I feel Villager is the best. Mega Man is really hard to use when it comes to meleeing (which is a given since he's mostly projectile based). My only complaint is that the blast zone is too far on the sides, not to mention recovery is kind of too easy. But still overall, I'm having high hopes for this game now.

From those streams I've watched, the level design looks more tame and not overly gimmicky or annoying like half of the Brawl stages. I'm glad.

How is the online, if you've tried it out, bork laser?

yeah, I haven't followed the game too closely and Mega Man's moveset surprised me.  his melee move are in the air and do diddly shit damage and knock back.  there must be more to Villager's B than stowing away items because it'd be restricted to Link's bombs and those sorts in non-item matches?

the 3DS version is better than I thought.  no problems with visibility and controls are mostly fine.  doing smash attack motions on the flimsy analog slider ain't great but it's not kid icarus bad.  still only plan to get the wii u version, whatever that's out.

Unlock list, although it's not everything.  I've seen more stages than they have listed.

Quote
Basically every ten fights in brawl mode (online seemingly works as well ), will get you a character

Characters:
10 Ness
20. Falco
30 Wario
40 Lukina
50. Dark Pit
60. Dr. Mario
70 Robot
80 Ganondorf
90 Game and Watch
100. Koopa Jr.
110-120 Duck hunt
120-130 Jigglypuff

Two sources differ on last two but its either or at the moment.

Alternative character unlock methods so far:

Wario - beat simple mode as Marth
Lukina- beat simple mode as Marth
Dark Pit- beat simple mode as Palutena
Dr. Mario- beat simple mode as Mario

Stages:
Magicant
Be able to use Ness

Made in Wario
Be able to use Wario

Pupupu Land
Use kirbys final smash

Pacman maze
Use pacmans final smash

Ballon fight
Use villager 3 times
How is the online, if you've tried it out, bork laser?

I have nobody added to my J3DS friends list yet, so I haven't had a chance to try this online against players in the States.  Random matches against Japanese players are a mixed bag, as expected.  Since you don't need to do anything complex, execution-wise, it does make things easier to take with lag.

From the matches I've played, it seems like the flat stage/no item play modes are more popular online than the normal stage/item play modes.

I'm glad I'm not alone with the jump button... not sure if I like the circle pad a lot... but the game definitely feels a lot better and less floaty than Brawl, so I have high hopes for this one, especially the WiiU version.

Got all the characters unlocked last night.  Ended up doing the 120 battle method.  Everything counts, so I just did 1-on-1 battles against the CPU at the lowest difficulty level.  When you get a new character, you have to fight him/her first at a normal level, and I had to do a few of these battles 2-3 times depending on who I was using.  For whatever reason the CPU Ganondorf beat the shit out of me, easily, for several matches straight, then suddenly went down with ease.

I found that the best characters to use for this were Palutena and once he was unlocked, Wario.  It really didn't take very long using this method.

I like Duck Hunt a whole bunch.  Really fun character to zone people with.  I just wish he had the NES 8-bit laugh sound effect.  They gave him a Muttley-like snicker instead.

There's still enough space on the character select screen.  DLC has got to be coming.  And I still have one stage left to unlock...Mr. Game And Watch's level.  It didn't unlock based on battles or character usage.  Read that challenges need to be cleared instead.

Next up I guess I need to start playing the modes that net you rewards and get alternate character moves unlocked.

I wonder if bork ripped his circle pad pro off yet like the rest of Japan.

I don't get why this would be the game to do that out of all the 3DS titles.  Let me guess...Kotaku clickbait article?   :lol

I figured this game would do SOMETHING to your 3ds seeing how the demo alone will cause it to restart the whole handheld when you close it while suspended.

I can't even think about how quick the battery must drain on regular 3DS models.  Probably Game Gear levels of battery life.

Yeah, it sounded like they had to compromise some things to get it working smoothly on the 3DS. Pokeballs are limited to 1 (as oppose to 3 in Brawl and 8 in Melee) and CPU/GPU intensive characters like Ice Climbers are cut. Not sure how much more compromises were made, although some characters do look very noticably low poly I think.

My hand cramps up after only a few matches in the demo. I made the decision to order a grip for my XL to try and make this thing less uncomfortable.

Don't think it's anywhere near as bad as Kid Icarus.  I couldn't play that.  Fighting games like Street Fighter also cramp my hands, big time, on the 3DS, but this does not.

But interesting that people are having control issues and both games are made by the some of the same people.

I mainly use my 3DS for turn based rpgs, mario, and zelda. It's fine for those but it's not as good with more action-oriented games, at least for me. Maybe if I had an XL it'd be different but there's no point in getting one of those now.

XL helps a bit but still kills my hands on certain games.  The 3DS just isn't very ergonomic, IMO.

This game has the most boring unlockable characters in the series. Bunch of returning characters, clones of existing characters, Bowser Jr. and the Duck Hunt dog.  I don't even know why some of the locked characters STILL have to be unlocked at this point in the series.  :beli
