So after several long nights with the game, couple things:
- This game is incredibly unbalanced and who you're matched up with seems random as fuck. Sure, put little ol' level 8 BrandNew with three level 3's, with the other team all level 20. That happened to me at least 10 times.
- Two maps a day is fucking ridiculous. After a while, the matches blend into each other when the map stays the same for four straight battles. Memorable moments are few and far between when they're not adding any sort of variety to the mix.
- Maybe I'm missing something, but I haven't been able to launch to the middle of maps...its done from the initial spawn point, right?
- I still don't really understand how post-match ranking works. I've often times had the most kills/splats out of my team, but I only get third a lot of times. Is it based more on how much ground you cover?
- Single player feels like an afterthought. To be expected. Fun distraction though.
All that said, when you actually get to the nitty-gritty gameplay, its fun as fuck. The squid-form-as-cover system is pretty brilliant and depending on how well you cover your terrain, you can introduce some pretty awesome strategy for flanking opponents. What I've learned is painting walls is a highly underutilized tactic – people hardly look at the walls, so if you camp on a wall while opponents pass by, you can get right behind them and guerrila-fuck 'em. Also a useful escape tactic.
Loving the guns, too. Main gun with a roller back up has been my thing, but I know that a lot of people are using the sniper and getting to high ground.
Solid game, I think, but it could've cooked a bit more in the oven to get more content in by release.
