Ya I've come a long way in the last 4 years, despite having major depression episodes like ever year.  Things keep looking better and I'm thankful for that.

Man when it rains it pours.

My dad who is 74 is going under a double bypass and valve replacement next Tuesday. This is just crazy. He had a cath done today and they found genetic blockage (not fat or cholesterol) and they wanted to go after it quickly. Docs say it'll add 15 years to his life which sounds great. But i don't want my dad to hurt. :(  Hes the only person who gets me. I'm really scared.

I need a break from all this real shit.

Hope it all goes well!

If it makes you feel any better bypass surgery is ridiculously profitable for hospitals so they do tons of them so it's a routine they're very used to.

Don't know if it helps. But I hope it does.

I know. I work in a hospital, my brother works as a recruiter at another hospital, my mom was a nurse, hell my dad was director of engineering for a hospital. I know that the day after his surgery he'll be sitting up in a chair and then walking. Which is nuts. The fact they can do this surgery in a town of about 30,000 is amazing and shows how far medicine has come.

But it's my dad.

I mean I know I'm not special, life is hard but for all the 2016 sucks meme crap this year has been hard. I lost my cousin last week and he was like my brother, my daughter is stuck emotionally and won't move on, there's been some relationship issues between me and the wife, and my job is eating at me. I lost my title and I didn't realize how much it meant to me.

It's very hard for me right now to see the positives, even though I'm sure anyone else could list them.

I came home on Tuesday night and just slept until the next morning. Didn't say anything to anyone, I just wanted to feel like I had some control and the only thing I thought I could control was being alone and sleeping.

I know, wah wah. Sorry. I should be more thankful.

Don't get down on yourself for not being thankful. It's just another thing to beat yourself up about, feeding that cycle. Sleeping like that, it's about retreat, about running away. It can also be about processing and healing. I'm sad you're having such a rough time. You'll get through this.

Publisher making thinly veiled threats to cancel our game because their QA is shit :(
That's the absolute best!

Hope your guys' contract about QA coverage is solid. Sorry they're being dicks.

I don't know what the contract is, but I know they weren't thorough enough and we failed 3 submissions (for an undocumented process that doesn't formally exist), so if we fail the one coming up this weekend then they're gonna pull the plug.

My dad did well. When they opened him up they did a 3D scan and found they only needed to do one valve and one bypass. I'm sitting here with him now. He's sitting up in a chair and we're watching the national news together.

Amazing how his rib cage was open yesterday with somebody's hands on his heart and he's up talking to me right now.

Wanting to avoid people when you experienced pain from them isn't unnatural. We all need time to heal. Just don't let it become a permanent lifestyle.

Small airports, behind a 50ish yo first time flyer

Security: please remove yada yada before walking through the metal detecter

Spend next ten minutes walking through and retrying as he removes his watch, neckless, keys, loose change, etc.

Eventually it still continues to go off. Guy says "oh yeah I had a knee replaced, does that matter?"

I'm still debating if murdering him is worth it

Hey guys.

Just wanted to say that while things are still shitty I really appreciate the support my bore brethren have shown me. Not just now but over the years. Y'all are great. I'll keep on keeping on and see if shit pivots while I try to make the most of what I have.

Thank you.

Steve, from your posts in this thread it sounds like you had a tough year. Sorry for all of that. Just know you got some dumb dude who plays too many videogames over here always ready to listen if you need an ear to bend.

Take it easy, man.
Thanks breh. It's been a nightmare year. There's a bunch of stuff I didn't post about here, but things have been slightly better for me and more importantly a few very close people who have had it worse.

The real tragedy of all of this is that I've lost like 15 pounds this year. I'm still like 30-40 pounds overweight, but still. I guess you can't just eat nothing but trash for an adult lifetime and expect to be ok.

But you're already on the right path so it probably makes the most sense to just continue working it. Weight loss suuuuuucks a big nut in terms of mental stress tho from what I've seen.

But she's a vegetarian and it's very easy to eat a bunch of unhealthy carbs on a vegetarian diet.

In America, that's a true statement.  :american

That was one of the best things I liked about those links I posted.  180:  I'm not over weight, 200 is over weight.  200: I'm not fat, 250 is fat.  300:  I'm not obese, 400 is obese.

I used to be very tied to being thin as a part of my identity, I've really filled out muscle wise in the last few years and it's allowed me to feel comfortable with holdin a little extra for prosperity
