Cyber and Water are 64bit Firefox, Palemoon is Firefox Lite, that stubbornly refuses to use that shitty Australis interface, it's also 64bit to put it plainly these just run a hell of a lot better than vanilla Firefox.

Edge is pretty hot. I like it. May switch.

I'm currently using it. It's fine but need more options (ie why can't I pick my default download location? why can't I manage my bookmarks instead of importing only? etc), and extensions. Some sites are ultra slow due to excessive ADs like Mangastream.

With old IE, I can at least use Tracking Protection List. Here you only have that blocking host trick and that may slow down my system since it affects everything not just the bowser.

the new start menu is perfectly fine for desktop. no need to use shitty third party apps.

not feeling it on touch though. I've had trouble using my dell venue pro 8 the other day. 8.1 was better imo overall for touch devices.

Not when it's hiding applications you install, no. I don't have all the folders I had in Classic Shells start menu, for instance. Paint and Task Manager are buried under Windows Accessories, my most used programs aren't listed on Start but other programs that I haven't ever used.

Now I do miss having my commonly used programs (like Excel) in the start menu with the arrow to select my recently used files. Can't see how to do that now.

I ran into that problem with Classic shell, that and it not showing my Metro apps. So far the only ones that work right are:

Uninstall Xinput completely.

Reboot.

Plug-in 360 controller. It should install a new 360 controller driver. If it's still doing that, look into the Xinput wrapper I guess and see if that stomps the problem out.

re: Paint, first thing I did was right click -> pin to start. Problem solved there

That's a round-about/circling around the problem. Yes, that works. No, that doesn't solve the fact that MS continues to bury shit that wasn't buried before.

AFAIK it happened when I uninstalled Classic Shell, so yeah it may be a problem. But I think reopening applications eventually will repopulate it. It's a weird bug since I wish I could just pin programs to that side instead of the Metro side of the menu.

Go to devices and printers in the control panel right click and remove your controller, I am assuming you are using a 360 controller install the xbox 360 controller drivers from Microsoft's website.

On 8, all I did was install ms 360 driver and then xinput wrapper and was good to go. Could even get wireless with the bluetooth adapter I made. On W10, it works plugged doing the same steps that are on that site you linked, and then when I reboot, the controller cannot be recognized and I need to uninstall wrapper and reinstall to use it again.

Maybe this will work, I tried asking Gaf but got ignored so far.

Truth be told, all these solutions, I read up on one said to disable dns and manually type in your IP address because apparently that can somehow fuck with the wrapper, the other is in the above link to disable driver signing sound pretty sketchy to me.

I'm having the same problem, Himu. I dunno what caused it (an update for Windows?) but here's a solution even if it's annoying to do:

If you still have the wrapper download, go into it's folder. The SCPServer will find your plugged in controller and allow you to use it in applications as if nothing happened. You'll need to leave that running (so put it in another virtual desktop if it bothers you for window clutter) but that should help you even if it's a "work around" that isn't a perma solution to the problem.

Speaking of things: I just opened Glasswire for the first time since upgrading and "Search and Cortana application" was connecting to "any.edge.bing.com." So much for telling Cortana "no, I don't want you snooping through my shit and reporting to Microsoft."  ::)

Huh? Virtual desktop?

Sorry, *NIX term. "Task View" is what Windows 10 calls it. You click that and it'll show your windows with a "+" for a new "Virtual Desktop" that basically allows you to put certain programs in certain "Desktops" to unclutter your desktop.

Quote
And go to the SCPServer.exe that installs the wrapper to begin with? Just leave it on?

The wrapper installs with SCPdriver.exe

SCPServer.exe will pop-open a window with some technical stuff that you don't really need to worry about. So long as that is "open"/executed your DS3 will work as it did previously. Why you need that on when the wrapper was working before whatever update broke it, I dunno.

I really don't like how opaque and seemingly random the update process is. My screen just went black and I briefly thought my monitor broke, but no, it was just an update to my display driver. I noticed my harddrive being taxed even after this and it turns out Windows Defender was doing a definitions update.

How about a warning at the very least?

Upgraded the missus computer since Windows 8.1 decided suddenly that her account was broken and could only operate on temp files (apparently a common issue) only for the wifi card to not work anymore... Turns out I just had to update the driver but I'm a bit baffled that it's not an automatic checkbox to upgrade it along with the OS when it's the very same connection used to do all the updating stuff even though it's not the same manufacturer...

Otherwise the layout is a step up from the horrific 8 stuff.

The only time I notice that an update has been downloaded or already installed is on shutdown on boot. I've yet to spot something that informs me of an update in progress.

I should probably look more closely for an option to surface the process. I've found less than a handful of user configurable options that have anything to do with update. :doge

I guess I mean even those 120-second countdown warning dialogs, which may not draw focus if you're in a different fullscreen app.

I remember working in Win NT and coming back from lunch to find that my PC had rebooted itself for an update. The few times I'd forgotten to save before leaving the workstation were... troubling.

Nope. It just let's you know when an update was applied. It's entirely oblique otherwise. Doesn't steal focus, nag you to restart (or postpone it), nothing. The latter is a definite improvement.

With the new improvements it only takes 20-25 seconds to boot up my computer so I've gotten into the habit of turning off my computer every night. Most updates will install in the background when you shut down the operating system.

Waited long enough and just upgraded my laptop to Win 10.  Very impressed at how quickly it all went and I haven't had a single issue.   :o

I think I may keep my Asus Chi on 8.1 though.  Part of the reason I got it is because the T100HA I got with Win 10 last year ran like butt.

That's odd. Windows 10 seemed to be less of a resource hog than 7 and 8.

Also this seems to be a good place to ask but what's a good Windows computer for doing art stuff? I assume it needs one of those wacom/n-trig active stylus things but I don't know what else to look for. It needs to also be a good laptop for 90% of its usage.

Perhaps I spoke to soon.  I started having issues with my Internet connection dropping every 20-30 minutes.  :-\  Tried updating the drivers and also unchecked the option to turn off the wifi and ethernet drivers to "save power" under the device manager settings.  Hope that does it.  Also have an issue with an old G-Drive going to sleep and waking up too often.  Had this same problem on Win 7 and 8 but the fix used for those isn't working.

That's odd. Windows 10 seemed to be less of a resource hog than 7 and 8.

I'm sure a good part of it was the tablet just not being optimized well to work with it, but I've used four ASUS Windows tablets since they started putting them out, and only the Win 10 model one ran like shit.  Slow to start up, applications took too long to start going, etc.  Blazing fast with Windows 8.

I don't know what a HA is, but I ran the Insider Preview and then upgraded when Windows 10 came out.
At some point I had to quit the Insider Program and revert to a stable version because it was giving me too much trouble.
But since then everything works fine.

I use it for work, browsing, some Netflix.

HA is the newest model that came out last year.  Has an aluminum body (although the keyboard is plastic), 4GB of RAM, and Win 10.

I got this model and found it performed significantly worse than the T100 I got in 2013.  Slow to boot up, slow for apps to open, etc.  The speakers also sucked and the keyboard was made of very flimsy plastic.  So I returned it and tried the T100 Chi, which is the premium model-- all metal, thinner and lighter, has a 1920x1200 screen, etc.  The speakers STILL aren't as good as the original T100, but it's a nice little upgrade.  I'm interested in upgrading it to Windows 10 but my experience with it on the T100HA really soured me.

I don't think it can do that. Does anyone else have access to your computer? I signed up my wife's PC for the upgrade, but I still had to actually initiate the install on my own.

Fuck my computer just did this.  Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I hold off on upgrading to new operating systems for a few years because I play a lot of games from all generations, so some times I'll play dosbox stuff from the 90s, or mods from early 00s and sometimes new operating systems break old games compatibility because no one cares.

Do we know if GoG games work on W10?
