Most people like to be calm and comfortable and not a hassle to anyone when they commit suicide.

Jumping is pretty effective, but you're putting other people at risk (both during the act and after depending on where you go splat) and have to endure what I imagine is sheer terror for the duration of the fall.

I'm not going to speak on behalf of the dead or suicidal in any capacity but I'm going to guess that if you don't want to live, like really want to die, that short flight isn't scary at all.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm just guessing.
Nobody is particularly hot on dying. Being dead/gone is another matter.

If you have a terminal illness I think something like the discomfort is relevant. If you're just at the end of your rope? Probably not. By and by, the effective methods for the average person are not very dignified. (idk how easy it is to get a lethal dose of cyanide or what it leaves a body looking like.)

Yeah I forgot about that. Ever see that video of the Swiss assisted suicide? It was one of the saddest, yet bravest and most beautiful things I had ever seen. Conflicting.

No offense, then don't speak for them. Because you're wrong. Go to a high place and look down. Now think you have the resolve suddenly to take a step forward and fall the 4 stories or so off the building. A lot of people suddenly lose their nerve when it comes to the time to commit either due to pain, fear, or both.

I know and I'm sorry. Speaking for everyone is the wrong thing to do.

When my daughter tried to kill herself she and I talked about it and we still do. She wasn't afraid. She told me she wasn't afraid for the pain because on the other side there was nothing. It wasn't escape, it was nothing.

I know our natural instinct is one of survival and pulling back from the brink is just our instincts for that but she lost that when she didn't want to live any more. It's like that part of her instinct went away. So that's the only perspective I can speak from.

Of course, it wasn't jumping it was throwing herself into the street into traffic which seems kinda as scary but I don't know. She doesn't know.

It's hard to study the subject given that those that succeed can't be studied and those that didn't might not have really wanted to die.

Yeah, it's got to be horrifying. Reminds me of an article and the documentary it inspired, The Bridge, about suicides on the Golden Gate Bridge. Death isn't always instantaneous either, as some die from hypothermia instead.

Quote
In his article for The New Yorker, Friend wrote, "Survivors often regret their decision in midair, if not before," supported by survivor Ken Baldwin explaining, “I instantly realized that everything in my life that I'd thought was unfixable was totally fixable—except for having just jumped."

It's very likely a terrifying experience, unless you're this kid:

Quote
Kyle Gamboa, a high school student from Fair Oaks, California, skipped school in September 2013 to jump off the bridge, yelling "Yahoo!" as he leaped to his death. The New York Times reported he had watched the trailer for The Bridge repeatedly. His suicide note read, “I’m happy. I thought this was a good place to end.”

Weird because Rose was dating Mieka Riese during 2011-2013. They been together way back in High School and didn't break up until 2013 of October but, they are just friends now.

Their son PJ was born in 2012 by the way.

So how is Derrick going to date this chick from 2011-2013 while dating his GF from High School then having a child in 2012?

How could athletes who are on the road all of the time, constantly offered sex by attractive people, possibly cheat on their wife or husband?

 ???

Also I'm really tired of this perception that rapists must act a certain way in public. It's the kind of crime you get away with by being "the nice guy" precisely because no one suspects you of doing shit.

Why the weird capitalization in the middle of the name ? He's not a Chinaman !

Honestly the first 3 albums that Hergé did under heavy influence of his catholic publishers (or so he says) that conveys typical conservative points do constitute the bulk of what is deemed really questionable, and really out uf those Congo is by far the most atrocious (...Soviets is a total hatchet job but in hindsight... not that far off the mark.). Hergé mellowed out a lot when he met the real life inspiration for Chang (under the advice of one of his bishops, IIRC) and took greater attention to his documentation & tone in depicting  foreign events even if there's still quite a few caricatures (Matsuhirato, the japanese baddie, being a stereotypical one). He also updated and sanitized some details (Irgun in Black Gold) post-WWII because PC gone mad breh.

I always get a kick out of people who live in the Northeastern Corridor, segments of the Left Coast or major city Europe having all these simple solutions the U.S. as a whole should implement. JUST ADD PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION JEEZ! Like the flyover areas aren't already chock full of garbage and failed versions of it. The sheer distances between basic things in most of the U.S. are entirely foreign to them. We don't have a little fucking grocery store every block or three like in quaint European cities or NYC, we've got SUPER Wal-Mart out in some suburban stripmall wasteland that was once an empty field five miles from the town. And LA is like this times ten billion, it's not comparable to "any city along the Mediterranean" in the slightest.

And then we've got a guy outlining his plans for an endless number of walled cities where only bicycles and buses are allowed. And no cars outside the cities. And also only the rich are allowed cars because only they might have places to go outside the bus lines.

And now there's people saying it's reasonable to simply setup bike lines for eight hour commutes into and out of the cities.

I want to reach that level in a thread years back where some guy said we should have a high speed rail system that goes 300mph and stops in every town along the way. And dismissed people questioning its physical feasibility as a "simple planning problem to address." Just fire up the ol A-Train.

We fly so many planes because it's just fucking easier than laying and maintaining track that'll barely get used. And even that infrastructure is garbage. Large distances suck when you're entire planning regime is based around compact/dense non-sprawled metro areas.

Though I suppose its worse when I hear it from people around here "we really need robust public transportation in the city" WE HAVE IT, it doesn't go where you want it to go because you'd never fucking ride it. So it's kept to the main streets which has nothing you want to go to on it. "I'd use it if it was more convenient. We really need more. Maybe a rail-line to downtown." From where? "Oh, I don't know, where people live probably." And when would you ever go downtown it's the state government and everything else (90% of which is some kind of lunch shop) closes at 2pm? "Well, maybe if there was an easy way to get there." Like the multiple roads nobody uses because there's NOTHING DOWNTOWN?

This is why we need to burn down all the cities and just live in the wastes. Just hold off until I play enough Mad Max to be ready.

Is he though?

More like :ustupid in reverse, Dennis. You're coming from a Euro perspective. Benji is totally in the right. The only way "LA's problem will be solved with mass transit!" would be to contract the entire city, which isn't ever going to happen.

Well US might as well give up now as everything is unsolveable then

-Gun culture too engrained
-Cities too sprawly
-Slavery

LA's problem is even worse because of all those little fucking "cities" it's grown around.

Now you're getting in the spirit. It's the American cac way. When the going gets tough, you move further away from the problem.

Canada here we come.
