That Jewish characters in games thread :mouf

Jews at each other's throat about who is the most correct about what define a Jew, with Yiddish lingo.
Guys saying Jesus allegories and Christianity sort of already represent Judaism so heh.
Wild allegations about your neighbours characters being secretly Jewish.
Argument about how they are overrepresented in banking Hollywood Polish fields foremen games anyway.

This exchange :

That is a very old-school (orthodox / nuremberg race law) understanding of what makes any person jewish. Just because his mother was jewish, does not mean he is a jew.

Religious or not, most Ashkenazi still consider that to be the case.

Well, I find it disturbing that that understanding is apparently ubiquitous as you put it. Straight-up nazi understanding of what it means to be jewish.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=186799910&postcount=44

The Nuremberg laws (which were broader in their definition of who is a Jew) were an influence on the Law of Return. What exactly were they supposed to do, act like this hadn't been done when crafting the nü-Jewish state?

Also bork and I have had this argument here at the Bore to a certain extent so y'all can't laugh at GAF on this one, sorry. (Not sorry.)

You can tell in that thread some people are mad though at their decision to have kids just by how defensive they are and randomly lashing out.

Also down syndrome but they have all sorts of tests and shit.

Pretty sure any kid is generally better off when the parents are comfortable with having them rather than assuming 40 is geriatric or something.

Also that "what else is life other than procreating stuff" can just fuck off already. It's a pretty shitty sentiment for people who've decided not to have them or can't.

I can't see how people do kids in their 40s.
Honestly I had kids from my early 20s to my mid 30s. I could totally tell the difference between the first kid and the last kid.
The first kid I could stay up all night then do a full days work and do it again the next day no problem.
The last kid, it was all Danny Glover moments of "I'm too old for this shit." You really do feel the drag. There was a big noticable difference. I can't imagine what it would be like to start at 40 honestly.

It's a bit of an irony that when you're most physically able to support a child you're likely to be the least able to be financially to support one and visa versa. I have a friend who had kids in his 20s and then got a divorce and then started again when he remarried in his 40s. He runs Iron Mans and he's just like "I don't have the energy for this."

Yes, but health risks in--Oh, I see you already covered that. Still, it's better to have them in your 20-30's if you're planning on having them. Problem is economy/etc. is all just totally fucked up which delayed a bunch of "milestones to life" and/or people are putting off kids because of the strain. Shits fucked.

If we're going by anecdotes I'm a single child of a parent who was 40. She's going strong and is healthier than shit tons of people far younger. Also I got to have a parent who was retired while I was in highschool and able to support me and take me to and pick me up from practices. Seems to me it's way more dependent on overall health and energy level of parents.

It's the age of the mother's eggs that really matter as far as genetic diseases. Ideally, if you're a woman who wants to have children one day but know you'll very possibly be in your late 30s, freezing eggs is a good option.

So is adoption but yeah most people look down on that. I think you have to suck at life to dislike children or to think there's ever a perfect situation to be a parent. When people try to plan what their family will be like in 10 years I just roll my eyes.

They got tests for that and the stats about older women giving birth comes with this nice caveat...

"population studies don't take into account whether or not the moms took good care of themselves or if they received appropriate prenatal care."

Kind of important.

They have karyotype tests which tell you of large problems like the chromosomal abnormalities but there's lots of genetic diseases that have very small changes in DNA (eg: most survivable ones). In that case you have to know exactly what gene to look at and we're a long way off from that.

As someone who mostly plays Japanese games, some with subtle lewd scenes/character outfits/etc., and who lived through the dark times of English localization, I'm always worried that publishers will be more gun-shy about bringing games to the states, where even some of the more benign titles may end up getting caught in the crossfire.
