You're mis-remembering how big an impact COD4 had on multiplayer shooters.  Sure Halo 3 sold lots because it was bound to, but CoD4 was the beginning of the end.

Also I agree that Halo doesn't mean much these days.  The Halo 2 and 3 launch events were pretty big news but it has been a decline since then.  I can't blame the watering down of the franchise (with Halo Wars, OSTD, and Reach) nor can I blame it on the fact that a bunch of nerds hijacked the story so it turned from a fun multiplayer game to some scifi crap.  COD just eclipsed the game as a multiplayer shooter.  Halo 5 is barely relevant these days and it has nothing to do with Destiny.  Halo died when COD4 came out, whenever that was

Yeah, no. Halo 3 MP was huge. The game sold over 12 million copies. The Xbox 360 version of COD4 sold about 9 million, for reference. On Xbox Live, there's no question that H3 was the more popular of the two, though it was fairly close.

I don't know, I feel like it was a shaky premise.

Have the Battlefield games made changes that reflect what the mainstream wants in an online shooter? Yes, but I feel BF 3 and 4 are pretty good. BF4 may have launched terribly, but it's been well supported 2 years out.

Hardline wasn't by any Dice and even then it's not a bad game. Yet, do compare it to Battlefront and Battlefront dosen't really come off as a Star Wars skin game. It's more acadey and I actually think far better designed in its way of bringing instant action to BF's big openness.

It's also an extermley good looking game and it hardly shows any lack of effort.
