Used Uber this morning. Feels good, man. I'm going to use them this afternoon, too. And probably at least twice over the weekend.

:bow Uber :bow2

If I had to use taxis, I'd go out a hell of a lot less.

this thread is a fucking graveyard

The funny thing is that this clickbaity article isn't that far off the truth. Uncharted 4 has less shooting action than the previous games, which is nice, but most of the non-action content is literally just walking down a linear path and inspecting objects or point of views. Basically what you do in walking simulators like Everyone's Gone to Rapture.

I feel like I'm the only normal gamer not so hot on Uncharted 4. It's been kind of boring. Lots of walking and really generic shooting. In an age of Vanquish and Quantum Break have really upped TPS gameplay. Gears has the cover system and then stuff like Tomb Raider have more going on beyond the shooting.

I can't even rely on the story because the lost long brother angle is lame and I don't care much about the story of Drake getting back into this life. Didn't UC3 cover some of that ground?

The shooting is really good. Excellent mechanics and great use of vertical design. There just isn't enough of it.

I get why people dislike Uber but it's like Amazon where it's not so much the price but the competence and convenience.  I think I shared this story, the last time I said "fuck that shit" about taxis was when I needed to go the airport, called the night before, had at least an hour to spare.  The taxi driver wound up over on the other side of the city (despite my address having a unique number and street, so there was no E. 60th St/W. 60th St confusion) and I almost missed my flight.  When I called to complain, they couldn't give a rat's ass and this was the highest rated taxi service in my city :doge.  So at that point, it was Uber all the way.

My suspicion is the NX platform is going to be some kind of fork of Android so Arm processors make sense, it should help alleviate the issues of supporting two machines handheld/console.

It blows me away that Nintards think that any Nintendo console or handheld will be powerful.  The last Nintendo hardware that remotely tried to compete with other consoles was the Gamecube, which came out in 2001.  For the next 15 years, Nintendo has relied on low power + gimmick approaches for consoles and handhelds.  Not sure why people hoped this time would be different.  Nintendo has some decent finances but there's a reason why it's only gigantic corporations that have viable consoles.  The risk for Nintendo to come out with some PS4 killer is too great.  If the PS4-killing NX sold as much as the Wii U, Nintendo would be out of business.

Rust was right. Time really is a flat circle, and everything that has happened will happen again. We're dealing with people who were breastfeeding when the Nintendo Revolution/Thursdayton/Bomb drop/Aries/etc happened. They never experienced that shit. And now they're falling for shit that we went through a decade+ ago.

The moderation team actively handling this thread is not emotionally invested in Uncharted or its perception one way or another. Anyone who might happen to be really into Uncharted 4 right now, or despise the series for whatever reason instead, would default to just staying away from the thread, or otherwise at absolute bare minimum regardless of any biases they might have consciously or subconsciously they would still vet their preliminary decisions with the entire mod team online at that moment to make sure they're not being undermined by their personal opinions when deciding how to evaluate what's taking place in here.

Understand how NeoGAF operates. Everyone on the staff takes the site's neutrality very seriously, since we intentionally integrate all platforms and games and their rabid fans in one open forum, rather than creating easy, pointless, insular comfort bubbles for everything by default.

You're not being oppressed. Uncharted is not being oppressed (the editorial isn't even anti-Uncharted, as many have pointed out). Carry on.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

"Not taking a side" is having chosen against good.

What's next? Steve Youngblood shoving Uncharted fans into ovens? ModBot herding them into showers?

Given Nintendo's history for the past 10 years, this isn't really surprising. At the same time though, their strategy going forward was a big question mark. While I don't think the power gap between the Wii-U and the PS4/Xbone was necessarily the biggest problem, it was still a pretty big impediment to getting third party ports. And unlike with the Wii, the Wii-U didn't have the benefit of receiving massive hardware and first party game sales to cushion the blow.

So what does Nintendo do now? Do they try to make another gimmicky underpowered console? Or do they go back to what they used to do and compete on the hardware front? It probably might be a bigger risk as this would probably mean higher production costs  but they'll be in a better position to get ports.  It could be a greater investment than the Wii-U, or maybe not, since that stupid game pad contributed significantly to the final price. Best case scenario, this theoretical NX would be as profitable for Nintendo as the GC was. Not a great position to be in, but at least they'd be in the black.

So the other option is for them to do what they seem to be doing (again), building a system that's roughly equal (and also infuriatingly inferior in some aspects) to their competitors previous' gen consoles. As we've seen the Wii-U, this is pretty risky as well. Though unlike that system, the NX (at least at this point) doesn't have an expensive gimmick that'll eat up production costs.

Like I said, observing the past decade, this isn't really a shock. But at the same time, I don't necessarily think going down this route was either the obvious or proper solution for Nintendo.

Software is getting harder to track due to more people buying games digitally, but those hardware numbers are terrible. Sony got real lucky that Microsoft fucked up hard at the start of this gen, $400 Xbone at launch without all the negative buzz and reception beforehand, PS4 and Xbone would most likely be neck and neck by now, with the Xbox eating up PS4 sales.

Last cycle, wasn't a decent hardware month at least 250k, with 300k or more being good?

There were times when monthly sales were 400-500k for non-Wii console sales outside of holiday months.  Even during the early Xbox 360 shortages, I think they were well over 200k.

Current gen hardware sales are absolutely atrocious.  Honestly there's not much out there that makes people want to run out and buy a new console.  Add mobile and to a lesser extent PC into the mix and you got this shitshow.

Eh if its ARM based then Unity will probably half ass a port of their engine too it and all the scrub tier developers will be able to port to it and it'll become the console equivalent of the PSVita.
