Revelator 2 bombed because it came like a year after Revelator which game like a year (or two) after Sign.

Arc can't do the "XX: ^Core: #Reload: HD: Remix" treatment for the series anymore.

Plus another reason it bombed was that it didn't bring back most of the XX: Cast.

Quote
It does seem weird the XX characters they took a while to get to in Xrd aren't there from the start this time.

Which is what is pissing me off about Strive. They have a lot of work into importing models/characters into one game already. Finish that work. I guess the "reason" they aren't importing them into Strive is cut moves/rebalance and having to re-rigging the models for cut moves(?), but even then: Do the fucking cast you already have. Cutting the roster is bullshit.

I'll probably still get Strive, but the fact we didn't get the rest of XX's cast imported into XXX really soured me.

Edit: Oh and the online sucked from what I remember.

I think Arc knows now that they can't get away with selling DLC AND 10 updates to the same game, and we'll just get DLC going forward like we have with BBTag and Granblue (that ends up costing as much as a new game in the end, lolol).  I'd say DBZF too but that's BAMCO's decision.

They have a lot to work on after that last online beta, though, holy shit was that bad.

TBH I'd rather have a Guilty Gear Vs BlazBlue title.  Using their 3D engine, however, and not more tired old sprite mash-ups.

That big ass NeoGeo stick with the built in games is a lightning deal for $96. Almost 50% claimed - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XR9V88V

Imo the coolest GG character since ggxx

I mean the new samurai guy looks pretty rad too. Guilty Gear has always had good character designs.
Yeah actually true, pretty much 3 seconds after I hit post I was like awshit I forgot about Nagoryuki and his badass leather jacket haori thing. also awesome.

I just sorta thought the new designs in Xrd, while still cool, were a move in the wrong direction, and I like that the strive characters are leaning more into the rough and tough type designs instead of super anime.

Quote
There's definitely enough backlog characters to make another 3-4 games of Strive, but Xrd Rev 2 bombed hard as fuck which is why we didn't get Rev 3 which would've probably added Zappa/Bridget/Testament. If Strive bombs too, good luck even getting a 2nd game out of this. I have zero faith a reboot will save Guilty Gear. It's a niche fighter and fighters are pretty niche again in the first place.

It all depends on that netcode. If the netcode is good and the game can reach a certain mass of players this game will go bananas. People have shown they'll go for anime games with DBFZ and GBVS, and both had fucking garbage online.

I don't know about everyone else but the only reason I didn't go hard into rev2 is I didn't think the cost was worth it to play against the other 8 guys at locals that played GG once a month because the online was dang busted. If this is playable online I'm ready to no life it.

I just sort of assume to the casual audience the name Guilty Gear is poisoned. People are aware of it, know it's not their thing, and won't take a look at a new entry even with fancier graphics and more accessibility.

Whereas new fighters at least have a chance for new audiences.

Not saying GG is bad, it's probably my favorite 2d fighting series in existence, but out of everyone I know irl, no one will touch GG outside my one local friend that I used to play locally against since XX days. It's either too hardcore or too anime for everyone else. Like I said, fighters in general are niche outside like Mortal Kombat/SF, so being a smaller niche within a niche is just gonna be hard to ever get the breakout sales.

I guess we'll see if rebooting it and making it more accessible does anything for them. Will also be the first fighter for PS5 I think?

I mean with old guys, I guess. But young guns around my brother's age (early 20s) seem to like it. They're never gonna get the jaded SF/Tekken crowd that think it's too anime, but  I think they really have another shot with a younger generation with Strive and that might be what they're going for.

Good point. But that's just an updated version. GG will be the first all new fighter on next-gen which may help its sales. Maybe.

It's also on PS4, so I don't look at it as "next-gen."  It's a port-up like MK11 is.  I'm also with Akala- this game is going to go bomba.  It's not something that's going to catch on with a large audience.  They finally achieved that with Dragonball FighterZ.

I don't think it's gonna "bomb," but it's not gonna attract new players, maybe.

I'm torn, because I think the "dumbing down" can be a good thing (XXX had WAYYYYYYYY TOO MANY FUCKING SYSTEMS), but unless Arc has figured out how to translate 1990-2000 gameplay onto the online/GUD NETCODE(!!!), I don't think they're going to get players that way in the age of remote play.

"Bomba" in the sense that it's typical Arc and will only appeal to a smaller playerbase.

I wonder how people are going to react to them ditching traditional ranked matches and just putting players on "floors" with other players of the same skill level?  Not sure if people are going to like that.  Also the lobby system they had was absolutely terrible in the beta and I wish they'd just ditch it.

FG lobbies/matchmaking absolutely need improvement, most games are a disaster even discounting performance once matches start.

Can someone explain what is rollback for a person who doesn't pay attention to any of this. All I know is it's good and it's something about like continually save stating the game.

Is the idea when there is lag it jumps back a sec to the last saved position?

Being fair: I haven't bought it because SNK rarely puts their shit on sale. IIRC, Heroines hasn't even dropped past $30 or so.

It's been 84 years...

https://store.steampowered.com/app/794580/SNK_HEROINES_Tag_Team_Frenzy/

$15 for everything. Finally. Is SNK starting to learn to price their shit adequately?

It's OK.  It's better than you'd think with its simple gameplay.  The problem with it is that to win, you have to hit your super.  So a match could drag on for too long or be over too quickly.  It reminds me of PlayStation All-Stars in that respect.

If you want to try it, avoid it on Switch and check it out on PS4 or PC.

Yeah, looking at the tutorial. It's not a "traditional" fighter. It's using SNK characters (the girls, obviously with a few joke ones like Terry and Iori) with "Smash" mechanics. In terms of controls (Weak, Strong, whatever the "B" button is/Special?) and Bork's right: To end a match you have to "stun" an opponent or land a special attack (your super) when they're in the "red"/10% of life remaining.

It's not what I was really expecting from an SNK fighter, but it's not terrible for $15.

I think most people were hoping for a more traditional fighter with "wacky" visuals, but not game play, like Gals Fighters.  This is very much a party fighter type game.  It's not bad, but it was pretty much dead on arrival on day one.

No, I got it for like $20 right before it was $12 in a Humble Monthly (that Justin Bebpo bought it from). :doge

Edit: Oh, "DLC" :snoop
