Yup Gear VR / Daydream will be how 95% of people experience VR for the next 3-5 years.

VR is 5-10 years away from being truly accessible.  I'm glad people are throwing money away on VR tech because the lessons learned from this iteration should be addressed in the future.

Then I can have my VR waifu!  Hopefully I can buy an Anna Semenovich model :heartbeat

Not only that, it makes a lot of sense market-wise.  PC market is down a bit as more people just use tablets and the console market is LOL. But the phone market is not slowing down anytime soon. As companies try to differentiate themselves they'll kick that up. First it was better multi-media then it was better camera, sometimes it's physical features (waterproof etc) We're already seeing it happen. And I know that Facebook is invested in oculus but 80% of Facebook traffic is on phones, there's no way that behemoth of a company isn't already working on leveraging that. I think you'll see some high end PC VR offerings for the enthusiasts with money. Consoles? LOL, who knows? The mass market makes the decision and that market is mobile.

FIFY.

So much of GAF these days is like that person you meet that took one class on a subject in college, barely got a C and now thinks they are both an expert on said topic and subsequently abuse that knowledge to paint every topic they look at with.

It's like laughingstock took a sociology class on race and class in society, stuck it out a month to hear a little bit about Privilege Theory, then just fucked off. Now he feels emboldened and arrogant enough to take a quote and some trivia about the person and confidently declare them a racist. Ruth Bader Ginsberg no less.

..Though, I guess who can blame him when that is sort of what GAF does these days?

That's what people said back in the 90's, when "Virtuality" and "Cyberspace Cafés" popped up everywhere over night and VR was a hot topic even in mainstream media. Yes, the headsets were even bigger, heavier and more expensive, and headaches and nausea were guaranteed to set in within minutes, but the problems are still essentially the same. I'm starting to think we'll have neural interfaces before VR ever takes off.

For funnsies, here's an article by a big German magazine about the "next big thing" from 1993: http://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/print/d-13691733.html

I *do* think VR will get there eventually, but it depends on where you think "there" is. I don't think any VR system is gonna sell 1/2 of what the PS2 did, for instance. No matter the circumstances.

With that said, I think VR will be acceptable to the masses in the next 5-10 years. The tech for great VR *is* here today, but it's 1) too bulky and 2) too expensive. Time will decrease both of these sharply.

This doesn't mean everyone will have a VR headset in their house, but sales might be comparable to contemporary gaming systems.

The Oculus wasn't the original iPhone, with the gangbuster-selling iPhone 3G or 3GS right around the corner. The Oculus is the Motorola Razr. And 90's VR? That shit was Seinfeld-phone tier.

I was a huge fan of the dk1 when I first got it, then I got the dk2 and  :doge :doge'ed  at the stupid amount of cables required to set it up. I would bring the dk1 to parties, people LOVE that shit and it was so simple to set up. I would just bring my small laptop and thats it.

I think I took out my dk2 maybe 5 times total. It was a total nightmare to setup, and troubleshoot. I didnt even bother with the final version. You have to set up a bunch of cables, a fucking webcam on top of your laptop, you need a pretty damn powerful laptop rig to ensure 90fps.. it took the fun out of it. Of course, its much better with the final version, but after owning a dk1 and later a dk2 for almost two years, VR feels a bit old already.

When I brought it at social events, people love the fuck out of it. They loved the 'on-rail' demos, and no matter what, they always asked about porn stuff  :-*, which always got the big reactions  (:obama) and brought out the laughs. I had two videos demos, one with a pg13 stripper entering 'your apartment' and dancing around you while getting undress. Guys would get all silent and intense when viewing that one with the helmet, it was hilarious

The other video was a fmm threesome featuring the viewer as the girl fooling around with a sweaty latino guy and a black guy with a giant dick. Women would laugh non-stop during that one and joke about this 'being their first time with a black guy'. We did get one girl who tried it and completely hated it, saying it felt wrong and it made her feel like she had cheated on her boyfriend.  :doge

But yeah, overall, people really wanted a kit, but it was too expensive and too complicated to setup for them

I think some sort of simple integration with cell phones is the way to make it mainstream for the average person.

Looked pretty much like the PSVR with big cans and no glowy bits:

Admittedly, the headphones (provided by AKG) were probably the only good thing about the VFX 1. It did have great games like System Shock and Magic Carpet though.

When mobile VR is capable of doing more than playing pre-rendered videos on a spherical canvas then we might have something. Doing real time VR is a recipe for melted phones right now.

This is the gutter tier of GAF. Literally a gang of people openly advocating and cheering for people to have their lives ruined for a social faux pas.

Mind you the same people that will argue(rightfully in this case) that aspects and policies of the American criminal justice system and extensions from that can ruin a person's life by putting up near impossible obstacles to overcome once inside and work counter to the societal goal of rehabilitation....But post a pepe meme on Facebook?

My theory?

With the number of users plummeting and traffic going down the shitter, he opened the floodgates on every shitty ad network he could get his hands on to compensate. It wouldn't surprise me if he reached a point where he just wants to make as much cash as possible before the forum finally dies. It surely is on its way to do that soon.

Is anyone else experiencing issues with GAF? As I was preparing a response my connection to GAF was lost. I just thought there was some sort of server issue and GAF was down for everyone, but then I tried Zenmate. It worked for a split second and then a 503 error appeared. So I then switched on Peerblocker and guess what, I'm now able to use GAF again. Even now if I switch off Peerblocker I can't use GAF. I've taken video of this too.

I'm not an IT guy, so I'm not exactly sure why this is happening but something seems very strange about this. There's probably some sycophantic CUNT (not you Burny) out there who hates Star Citizen THAT MUCH that they decided that attacking me is the prefered thing to do becuase I dare to speak my mind about it. This is how much some people hate the game. This is the extent they go to. Sickening.

I rarely browse neogaf from a pc these days, but I just connected to neogaf using my friend's laptop to find some info from thr GOW4 thread

As soon as I clicked on a thread, 3 tabs opened up by themselves, and started cycling to various domains, doing god knows what. This was starting to feel like some ransomware prep, so I close the browser

How can the site be so hostile to users?

As for "sub"ing to sites that want you to remove ads, I pretty much stop going to those sites (eventually) when they start to push that. Newspapers and GAF or other such sites that start to shove them down your throat to "try to keep the site free."

(Though it reminds me I should sub/donate to the two card-game sites I use since 1: they're actually really useful and 2: the nagging is a "we need to be supported because we're a small community [which they're right about].)

Wouldn't be surprised there's unfounded complacency that Gaffers will come get their fix no matter what.
Sell that shit, Mr Malka, and go pursue some scholarship. You'll feel better for it.

This is insane. Neogaf is pretty much the only site that I see that is so hostile to users.

Your friend doesn't have adblock enabled?  That's insane.

That story is :donot
No facet of it I am comfortable with (though I cannot really fault the person calling him out if she really was her victim).

He's not even that great of a critic. He's said The Lego Movie is better than the Toy Story films. Uh, fucking what? (...) What have we learned, folks? Where there's smoke...

I think I'm more disturbed by the fact that someone whose prose is successful and welcomed by the film community (I'm a huge film buff and was formerly a movie columnist in Busan, Korea) could coast by while behaving so arrogantly, and then emerge as a total hypocrite.

Jesus fuck, who cares about his film prose and what does it have to do with anything ? (Nice stealth brag by the way.)

Yeah, I guess he just called him a douchebag for just not liking a movie he likes.

But still. I've seen Faraci championed as a progressiveness leader by quite a few.

Gaffers salivating over trying to ruin someones life because it bolsters their pathetic low self esteem.

It's bizarre and fucking scary, I don't particularly like Faraci but some gaffers were enjoying taking him down a bit too much.

I even saw one clutz saying that this was good as he'd railed against SJW's previously.

This isn't the first thread I've seen this kind of shit happening as well.

Do we really need to link the opinion of the NeoGAF hive mind moral person (if such a thing even exists) to this ? I wouldn't mind if there was some obvious brigading going on but so far it doesn't seem to be the case.
