Maybe I'm just dumb but having empathy for people in shitty situations is like, a cornerstone of progressive thought.

Thanks for linking that here because I saw it earlier and just got mad. What's happening is currently nothing but shitposting. First response had a maximum of two minutes to read and understand the linked article. Didn't stop him from shitting on the subjects in question with absolute moral superiority.

It was amusing a few weeks back when you had a guy who analyzes video game framerates for a living proclaiming they have no empathy for the prospects of others' livelihood with no self reflection.

Shocku. Nintendo releases yet another underpowered piece o' crap.

I can't believe these goobers actually thought the system was going to be anywhere beyond twice as powerful as the Wii-U (and that's if we're lucky). The damn thing had to double as a handheld. There's no fucking way it was going to be a significant jump based on that factor alone.

Surprise, surprise. Nintendo still disappoints even with lowered expectations. :lol

I never understood why Nintendo fans on GAF gets really involves arguing about technical specs of new Nintendo hardware for months when history shows a consistent pattern of disappointment. When will they learn that being optimistic about Nintendo hardware just leads to bitter disappointment?

Redeemable with open firmware, maybe we should just all use this as an opportunity to build our own routers from the hardware up

That's not a bad idea, but it already exists. Not exactly cheap, but fully open source (software and hardware): https://omnia.turris.cz/en/

There's been a sea of rumors regarding the NX, but the funniest one now in hindsight is that Sony and Microsoft were making the PS4 Pro and Scorpio mainly because they learned of the NX's specs and they were worried it would make the PS4 and XB1 look too weak, it was that powerful.

It's amazing because nintendo doesn't actually want to go the full power route. They'd rather have something that it's cheaper and where every unit sold is profitable.

Why did this happen?

Well, N64 and gamecube were more powerful and they lost both generations, so they went with something else.

Reason, imo, why they lost the generation is because they always fuck up on the format (N64 catridges picture cutscenes vs the cool FMVs you had on PSX, or gamecube actually using a smaller disc that couldn't hold as much data... wtf nintendo). But since that generation they went more with the nintendo DNA, as if they were the Apple of videogame industry.

As someone who has grown up with Nintendo games, I feel I need to find spend more time with a different hobby when I hear of Nintendo going for much less than hardcore consoles and games. I just want the days of SNES and N64 when Nintendo gave us among cutting edge games.

I will still play games but it's just so disappointing not having the best devs working for the hardcore gamers. Such a waste of talent.

But since that generation they went more with the nintendo DNA, as if they were the Apple of videogame industry.

Also Nintendo was always seen as the "lamer" alternative by the majority of people who bought consoles both generations. Genesis tapped into that before PSX took it and ran further away with it. Plus 3rd parties really didn't want to work with Nintendo for a myriad of reasons.

I'd say a lot of it was cartridge based when it comes to the 64's failures, that much is true. But with the Gamecube I don't think it really mattered at that point. The PS2 was a juggernaut and the XBox essentially destroyed the GCN in the west(Xbox may not be ahead of the GCN by that much worldwide, but when you take in Xbox's abysmal japanese sales you realize the divide is bigger in the west). The Wii was the right call even though it most definitely was a fad looking back. If there was a time for Nintendo to compete tech wise since, then I don't really see it. Maybe(and that's a big maybe) they should have done the jump with the Wii U(under a different name, of course) and got 3rd party's on board with better hardware than the 360/PS3 before Sony and MS rolled out their respective new gen consoles. But even then I don't see it as much as Nintendo taking over as much as it is a nice, healthy install base comparatively in the long run.

I'm less baffled by Nintendo's decisions to go underpowered than I am with fanthings never believing they would go underpowered until the very last moment. I mean, I'd love a Zelda on this gen's hardware as much as the next guy but I've long since quit thinking it would happen.

What I really believe Nintendo is doing right is securing exclusives. Monster Hunter neglect from sony/not helping with the localization made MH tri go to the Wii. I'm still wishing for a real HD monster hunter that doesn't require me to understand chinese. :(

This fucking hyperbole is disgusting as fuck.
When we saw the first video of the Switch everybody was happy and at least everybody thought we would get a portable Wii U and that would be a pretty big leap over the 3DS.
The fans were happy with what they saw im the reveal trailer but suddenly everything is shit because of some specs, outside of NeoGAF nobody cares for. Thats the problem with some of you. You guys think the peoplr in the real world would care for such stuff...but they only care for games. If they lool good, then they will accept the device. And Nintendo is in the position to sell a weak home console as a fucking strong handheld. Well one side would always be dissapointed but that some of you are not capable of thinking like an adult is very strange to say the least.
Nintendo has showed the concept and that actually sold many people on the console...
And if they create some hype at january 13th this thing will sell well and Mario have never been running around on a Playstation, where the audience for such kind of games isnt there anyway.

I love how this theory always, always gets trotted out during the "we lost, lets find reasons it's not actually our fault but other peoples" period:
Quote
I think the Democracts need to be much less ignorant and be able to see the big picture. Republicans already view this as a binary Us vs Them and will vote for Republicans regardless of purity tests, etc. It's the delicate snowflakes in the Democratic party who cant put party above all else who voted 3rd party (which will never win and if you truly think 3rd parties had a shot, ask yourself why Sanders ran as a Democrat instead of 3rd party?) or chose not to vote at all are completely ignorant of what is important, what truly matters: ensuring the party that aligns closest with your beliefs (the party your idealized candidate aligns to by the way), the one of two parties with a chance of the white house, gets to to the white house and wins seats in Congress. Instead, its like we are comprised of petulant children who rather not engage or throw their vote in the toilet because "the candidate at the top of the ticket wasnt my chosen candidate, the candidate didnt excite me, etc." This was an election that was far too important for this reckless attitude and as a result we are reaping the "rewards" of it.

What we need to do? We need Democrats as a whole to realize that as long as the party as a whole aligns closest to what we hold as true values, we need to vote for that candidate. As much shit as people give Republicans, they have figured that out long ago while Democrats navel gaze.
post could be improved if he was also responding to someone by pointing out that Hillary won the most votes ever and won the popular vote

The third party bashing is kind of sad given that they now they required their votes to win but is their fault because they dont like the Democrats candidate and dont think Trump is going to cause a nuclear winter.
