They were one of the first to expose PETA on a national scale back in 2004 (not 2013 as I accidentally posted) so they have to get a little bit of credit.
That's a pretty bold claim, I don't see any mention of it in
this Slate review of the episode from the time it aired.
Look back at the video and you see they pretty much nailed it on the head.
I watched the episode in 2004/2005, it's a very long and tedious instance of tu quoque. IIRC even ALF shows up in that episode, because there aren't libertarian terrorists or anything.
The moral to the story is Bill Maher is an "Animal Activist" that has been on the PETA Board of Directors for twenty years (this is a fact that is noted on his personal wiki page).
Personally, I think killing animals for specious reasons is worse than being a hypocrite, but OK.
