It's weird how GAF continue to conflate GG with almost every social/political element that crosses that site. I understand GAF is an echo chamber and GG was an introduction to politics for a lot of them, but you'd think they would move from GG by now.

I'm still seeing blog posts from people about how GG lead to Trump and the racist incidents we're seeing now. It's like they're so stuck in this echo-chamber that they don't realize how teensy-tiny small the demographic of self-proclaimed gamers is and then how even more minuscule the section of gamers within that already tiny demographic actually care about or even know about GG. Pretty sure Joe Bob in Indiana didn't vote for Trump because he hated Zoe Quinn.

Various blogzines and websites still drag up GG these days. The ggcommunity named it gamedropping. The way it's done is not that far from the stupid way it's done on GAF. Really, Gaf is terrible but it's not isolated in its terribleness. It's reflected of a larger wave of idiocy you can find all over.

I don't even really disagree with this. My point was never that Milo couldn't exist without GG or that people like him never existed before GG.

Does GAF really think PDP is losing? Sounds pretty delusional. That ruthless and surprisingly funny video is what's setting the narrative, along with the support of almost every YouTube, including a Joe Rogan appearance with DeFranco. Even if you can argue the specifics are a bit off, it doesn't really make a difference when both parties are seen as dishonest. Organizations like the WSJ should be more worried about them ceding ground to more niche (admittedly worse, often enough) outlets as trust in news sinks among younger adults. Not particularly happy about that last part, but a lot of people trying to paint PDP as a mini-Trump fail to realize that something has to fill that vacuum. More blame should be placed on those who create that vacuum through irresponsible reporting, if not outright deceit.

You would think GG was a second 9/11 the way gaffers lose their shit over it.  :doge

That's a good way of putting it. A real Frank Miller situation. For that year and a few years following it, there was a bit of a shift where several mods were now banning with a sense of paranoia and revenge. You had mods like charlequin going on rants that amounted to saying "This time, it's personal!". Conversations often broke down into contests to prove your opponent is a Gamergater and thus worthy of a ban. Probably confused a lot of doomed slightly misguided juniors. You still see it invoked when someone randomly decides to say "Wow, the posts in here are really like GG" (and the thread is actually about making fun of No Man's Sky or some shit). I would say this was beginning to cool off, but then the election happened. With Trump you get Russian spies, recipes, constant accusations someone is an alt, etc. Even the Berniebro garbage (and an even more humorous "ghostbro") was an extension of this.

Reporting wise on current events, they are obviously Murdoch agenda and he does "Assist" in editorial. Business wise, your professors are right. Murdoch doesn't fuck with the business side of the paper as much and they are usually watertight on stories cause the one thing you need to be in business journalism is completely accurate because your reports potentially have billions on the line so there is way, way more at stake to be correct than force an agenda. WSJ also holds off a little more for accuracy on business stories. Best business paper in America as long as you ignore the current affairs and opinions. Though you still see some Murdoch agenda and trying to tow the line  (Though sometimes WSJ will dump some entertainment business based stories in the NY Post as Hollywood Gossip so they don't get accused of trying to sabotage other companies). I somewhat get their point in trying to get you to read it because it's probably the best business resource than just plain shilling.

Globally, best business paper is the Financial Times as they are incredibly accurate and detailed.
