I wouldn't blame people for being interested in Chinese success at exporting cultural products, the article posted though is kinda... heh. Shallow assumptions in what constitutes "soft power" for one, a rather narrow conception of what sort of culture may contribute to it and a rather dubious assessment of their cultural exports (it's not reaching US shores en masse, but do they even want to ? What's the state of their cultural influence with their near abroad however ? I mean besides the fact China is bankrolling Western blockbusters now...).
AFAIK there's actually quite a lot of Chinese contemporary artists making the rounds in Europe, it's a fairly vibrant scene in spite of the regime.
