I dont go there unless there is something sufficiently interesting linked from here, feels good man. (Help's that I got over myself and learned how to use reddit properly). I havent seen Kagari and Aeana in 10 years on gaf, did the both of them also bail into low activity mode? Actually, havent seen Y2Kev since the hillaryburg balloon got pierced. All I ever see is Stump cleaning up shit.

I saw an article about how Zelda was offensive to the trans community because Link had to dress up like a Gerudo woman and didn't deal with his gender identity.

http://m.neogaf.com/showpost.php?p=232469495 Some minor Zelda spoilers in there.

I can respect wanting more well thought out LGBT characters in games but this is something else.

I get as annoyed with some SJW as anyone else, but that's a stupid (problematic) analogy.

The problems that SJW warriors run into are:
1. They don't even wait for someone to be offended.  Their actions often seem to be about establishing their own social power rather than responding to someone getting hurt.  For example, I posted a headline of Jeff Sessions saying "WELL RECUUUUUSE ME" and I added that they should have included "PRINCESS!" Somebody accused me of trying to emasculate Sessions and of revealing my own misogyny.  When I explained the joke it was still deemed problematic and rooted in misogyny.

2. The way SJW see people remind me of people with borderline personality disorder.  Everyone is either an angel or the devil.  A person can't just say something that I disagree with, they are a trash human being.  Unfortunately lots of people are like this now.

3. They are way too fucking obsessed with media.

I actually agree with SJWs on all major social issues.  At times I wish that I had their convictions and that I would call out more stuff IRL.  But SJWs are just kind of dicks sometimes.

Chappelle (from the new special) :

I’m from a different time,” he says, before describing how jarring it was to watch the 1986 Challenger space shuttle explode live on television while in school. Sharing that disaster together was a touchstone for many of his generation. Singling out a kid in the audience, he says: “For your generation, the space shuttle blows up every day.

What will be more triggering for GAF: The trans/gay jokes, or that Evilore was in the front row in a sea of cacs and therefore they won't be able to talk about how offensive it was without implicating Tyler as a racist/alt right/homo/transphobe?

I'm not sure I understand how writers "struggle" with the characters they develop. It's a fictional character, in a fictional world, it can be/do/say/act however the fuck the artist envisions the character to be. How can you tell stories if you're not allowed to fulfill your creative vision?

I'm guessing I'm just a bigot?

It really depends:

1) Does it fit the character's backstory, voice, etc.
2) Does it fit the story that is being told.

Revisioning is a balance act between those two. Yes, you can make the character do whatever you want. But at the same time: Does it make sense with what you've already "established"?

I mean to put it this way: It's like Rah establishing he's a "nice guy" that can't get no pussy. He's established he has no interest in Andrex. Then about twenty paragraphs later he's balls deep into Andrex. Just because you can make that happen doesn't mean it should probably happen, n'mean?

3. They are way too fucking obsessed with media.

I remember right after Colbert had his famous "truthiness" episode in 2005, how often younger liberals(of which I was one) used that as an identity distinguisher between the left and the right(and to a lesser extent the far-left as well). The respect of empiricism and factual argumentation vs. the sense that the right was often engaging in an empty and flawed assumptive process that valued stated moral convictions and gut feelings over evidence or an empirical process...Not that I think the left wasn't often guilty of that even then.

12 years later and the term - while still very much applicable to the right - could just as easily encapsulate the Millennial Social Justice movement. Especially online. A movement that seems way too often to be reliant on a largely assumptive process, where what the person "feels" is true about the other person/thing, becomes evidence enough of it's truthfulness(That feels like misogyny. Misogynists have often said something similar. That must of been misogynistic!.. You are a misogynist, no different from the worst of them!).

Quote
I sold my Switch and copy of Zelda when I reached the Gerudo town because of how infuriated I was. I had been role-playing as an immigrant venturing into Hyrule with the goal of wanting a better life. This meant working towards purchasing a home and earning rupees through jobs I could be proud of. However, when I was kicked out of that town and denied entry--I was honestly triggered. There this city resided in the shadow of walls that stood on each of its sides. Yet, here I was, yes, a man, unfortunately, but someone of color and a different culture (in the confines of the game; I was trying to understand the struggle of others less fortunate than I), who was told to get out, told I couldn't be given an opportunity or respect because of my background. It made me sick. This was something out of a certain country's current political climate. I just do not know what Nintendo were thinking or how they were able to release a game like this which promotes exclusivity and discrimination. Again, just sickening.

People with untreated Borderline Personality Disorder idealize and devalue people with whom they have a personal relationship, and on matters that relate to themselves. Reading too much into a busy friend not calling to say happy birthday, for example. Furthermore, there's a discrete cause of the behavior (feeling emotions more strongly and for longer than a person without the disorder does) while none could reasonably be determined for a heterogeneous group of people on the internet.

The word you're looking for is manichean.

A white woman playing an originally un-named and non-ethnicity-specified android cyborg gets me so angry. I don't care that the original movie's developer supports it. I need something to REEEEEE about!

The beef many people have also concerned the fact that this was THE opportunity to have an Asian lead. Not exactly that Major can't be Caucasian

I love his movies but damn what a shitty opinion especially about the no politics in art. Seriously wtf? Is he getting kickbacks from the movie studio for saying this crap?

Especially since it's Japan, a country that regularly yellow-washes caucasian roles.

Hey. Fuck off.

It's garbage that the whole thing is set in japan with all japanese chars then you have this white woman who stands out like a sore thumb, the idea wasnt for Motoko to stand out from the crowd, quite the opposite.

They did it because Scarlett Johansson will sell way more tickets than random Asian actress will.  Funny that nobody is complaining about a Singaporean actor playing Togusa, a Fijian actor playing Ishikawa, and Michael Pitt as Hideo Kuze.  :doge

Now, let's nerd it up- The Major has a prosthetic cyborg body.  She could look like whatever the hell she wanted to.  I don't understand why they didn't simply use that as the reason why she looks caucasian, but I guess it would have set people off.

At the end of the day, this is another comic book movie using a popular actress in a skintight bodysuit (:drool) to get people to go watch it.

TBH, I do sort of care. I watched Ghost when I was like 14 and don't particularly care about the validity of the source material (now cast Scarlett as say, Jubilee and watch me write a thesis) so it's not based in some sense of "der ruined my animus." But goddamn, it is beyond old at this point for Hollywood to continue to create this self-fulfilling prophecy that a non-whitey can sell tickets. We'll never get the next big Asian actress because they're never fucking cast in anything. And as much as I'd love to have been born as Fes from That 70's Show, Scarlett is about as miscast in this thing as Morgan Freeman as the Hulk. And not Bruce Banner, just Morgan Freeman buttass naked, painted in green trying to act angry about shit.

The Fast & the Furious have shown non-CACs can sell, if given half a chance (and lots of cool explosions, which based on the GITS trailer, there is plenty of). It's a total bullshit move.

Okay, now back to pretending to not care about stupid shit to seem above it all to strangers on the internet.

No need to make it a major problem.
