If this scorpio machine has Zen, I expect the Gaf mods are going to be very busy.

reckon there's no chance microsoft would launch it like this if that wasn't the case. launching with a full blown tech expose when you've put the goods in your machine for once is like washing up your mug up straight away and saying "we should really keep the kitchen tidy" after you cleaned up for the first time in weeks.

Who makes up these Gen This and That names, anyway? Handwavy columnists?
article from 1999:
Quote
As they approach their days of leadership, Baby Boomers must, above all, focus on their own children, those whom some call the “Echo” generation.
ABA Journal, 15 May 1987.

As this shows, the term was starting to be applied to the children of the Baby Boomer generation (seen as an echo of them, hence the name). The Baby Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964, as a result of demographic changes following the end of the Second World War. They were by some measures the healthiest and most privileged generation that had ever been born. Their existence, and the attention paid to them, was largely responsible for the idea that generations could be identified by some tag, which has led to many other terms for generational groups.

Echo boomers, as they were identified in the early 1990s, were born between the late 1970s or early 1980s and about 1990; the date range was later extended. They have been stereotyped as ethnically diverse children of the computer age, comfortable with digital communications and equipment, moderately conformist, untroubled by the generation gap. This group is large (three times that of the preceding Generation X) and has been posing demographic problems, especially in education.

The group has become known by many names — as the Millennial Generation (or the Millennials), Generation Next, the Net Generation, the iGeneration, the MyPod Generation and as Generation Y (or Gen Y, with individuals being Gen Yers). But the terminology is muddled, with Generation Y — as you might expect — being limited by some to the children of Generation X parents, or those born after about 1983. The range of birth dates has progressively been extended to the late 1990s or very early 2000s.

Most of the terms are still in use among sociologists, demographers and marketing professionals, though less so in popular writing. Generation Y is more frequent in the American press than Echo Boomer. Net Generation is also common, particularly outside the US.

Weaned on video games, Echo Boomers are the first generation to claim the computer as birthright. They troubleshoot the home PC and teach their parents the fine points of e-mail and Internet navigation.

The Pepsi ad is so damn bad, it works as a hilarious, albeit accidental, parody (of capitalism,  slacktivism, the combination of the two through brands and activism on twitter, however you want to interpret it) and the fact it exists can be appreciated on a surreal level. Spawned a good meme on twitter. However people really want to act like they've been wounded by it. Speaking of which...

Bingo cards.

Watching the ad again, one thing I overlooked before is that Jenner only gets interested in the protest after a cute guy smiles at her. It's like that Gloria Steinem comment how women are only interested in Bernie's campaign to meet boys come to life. This ad works on so many levels, it's almost as deep as a Zack Snyder cape movie.

GAF people shitting on Russell Westbrook is going to give me an aneurysm.  Acting like you can "stat pad" your way to a triple double average in the NBA.  Didn't realize it was so easy.  ::)

Westbrook's performance last week against Orlando should get him the MVP.  That was a guaranteed loss and he somehow turned it into a win.  That's OKC's season in a nutshell.  No disrespect but they are a much worse team than Houston.  Without Westbrook they're nowhere.  The Rockets have good talent besides Harden.

Look, just because only 15 times in NBA history has someone averaged more than 8/8/8 with five of those being Big O, another being Wilt back when he randomly decided to lead the league in assists, another three being Magic and another three being all this season (Russ, Harden, LeBron) doesn't mean stat padding isn't the easiest thing possible. Darrell Walker did it.

They'd be in the basement without him.

https://www.fanragsports.com/nba/thunder/russell-westbrook-triple-doubles-winning/

OKC's win % is 78.5 when he gets a triple double.  It'd be one thing if they were treading water or declining in spite of his big numbers.  Then the "stat padding" stuff might have some merit.  But it's the opposite: the bigger his stats the more they win.  This is basically one dude carrying a team into the NBA playoffs.

Westbrook has been the best player this year. I never thought we'd see another triple double year. It seemed like something the Big O did because he had modern athleticism in a very different league.

Rather that say Russ stat padded, I'd say there's been a stat inflation this year. Defenses aren't as effective this year overall and the correction towards defending the 3pt shot hasn't resulted in any drop in 3pt% and a lot of teams just don't really protect the rim right now.

It's amazing how people who constantly derail threads to inject the same old tired "political" bulletpoints (and other shenanigans) get away with no more than a thread lock and reboot with a "don't do it again nuh huh", compared to what others get banned/perm'd over.

Want to stop this BS? Start banning people for it.

Another purposeful derail happened in the Drawn to Death OT. They had reboot the thread.

Welp, looks like I won't be wasting any bandwidth on this. Fuck Jaffe.

This is funny because Jaffe's twitter was 95% Trump-bashing when I followed him (it wasn't very entertaining Trump-bashing).

Too late Jaffe!

We have already decided to make you the subject of todays Two Minutes Hate.

I just don't like the idea of MVP being a stats only type of thing. Is a great player on a bottom of the pack team more valuable than a great player on a top of the pack team? For me, I don't think so. If you're looking just at stats, he's obviously the dude, but those stats got his team to a 6th seed with a barely above .500 record. Is that more valuable than what someone like Isaiah Thomas has done for the Celtics this year?

Westbrook has been the best player this year. I never thought we'd see another triple double year. It seemed like something the Big O did because he had modern athleticism in a very different league.

Rather that say Russ stat padded, I'd say there's been a stat inflation this year. Defenses aren't as effective this year overall and the correction towards defending the 3pt shot hasn't resulted in any drop in 3pt% and a lot of teams just don't really protect the rim right now.
A lot of people are acting like Westbrook started out the season with the goal of averaging a triple double in mind.

He does kinda chase rebounds to the detriment of his team in order to maintain his triple doubles. What he's doing is still pretty ridiculous though.

Westbrook has always been a divisive player though, everyone seems to have strong opinions in one direction or the other.

Idk if you can really be MVP if your team is a 6th seed team in a playoffs set up where you don't even have to have a winning record to get in.

Just think where they'd be without him...

But are you really the most valuable player in the league for getting your team to the bottom of the playoffs with a barely winning record? If he had other decent people on the team, he wouldn't have the stat line he has because he wouldn't have to do everything. I just don't like the idea of MVP being a stats only type of thing. Is a great player on a bottom of the pack team more valuable than a great player on a top of the pack team? For me, I don't think so. I feel like this is the kind of argument people tried to make against A-Rod in Texas or Mike Trout with the Angels last year. Thankfully it is easier to quantify player value in baseball than in any other sport so it is easier to say that Trout is the best player even if his team is hot garbage.
