GAF people shitting on Russell Westbrook is going to give me an aneurysm. Acting like you can "stat pad" your way to a triple double average in the NBA. Didn't realize it was so easy.
Westbrook's performance last week against Orlando should get him the MVP. That was a guaranteed loss and he somehow turned it into a win. That's OKC's season in a nutshell. No disrespect but they are a much worse team than Houston. Without Westbrook they're nowhere. The Rockets have good talent besides Harden.
He does kinda chase rebounds to the detriment of his team in order to maintain his triple doubles. What he's doing is still pretty ridiculous though.
Westbrook has always been a divisive player though, everyone seems to have strong opinions in one direction or the other.
Idk if you can really be MVP if your team is a 6th seed team in a playoffs set up where you don't even have to have a winning record to get in.
Just think where they'd be without him...
But are you really the most valuable player in the league for getting your team to the bottom of the playoffs with a barely winning record? If he had other decent people on the team, he wouldn't have the stat line he has because he wouldn't have to do everything. I just don't like the idea of MVP being a stats only type of thing. Is a great player on a bottom of the pack team more valuable than a great player on a top of the pack team? For me, I don't think so. If you're looking just at stats, he's obviously the dude, but those stats got his team to a 6th seed with a barely above .500 record. Is that more valuable than what someone like Isaiah Thomas has done for the Celtics this year?
I feel like this is the kind of argument people tried to make against A-Rod in Texas or Mike Trout with the Angels last year. Thankfully it is easier to quantify player value in baseball than in any other sport so it is easier to say that Trout is the best player even if his team is hot garbage.
