I know exactly fuck all to little about what Zoe Quinn did or didnt do, but I remember an epic cringe long crypost by her ex boyfriend claiming she was sleeping with some dude (I suppose the journalist?).  I remember thinking 'okay so what' and moving on, then the later claims was the same dude (i think?) wrote articles about her non-game. Then the whole gamergate thing.

Cant say i care for what she did (if true) but cant say even if it is true I'd care more about that than the shit the GiantBomb crew went through at Gamespot etc, Gamergate was a distraction from real issues, thankfully i a) no longer care about gaming media b) they're dying anyway :shrug

So if I just go by that Zoe Quinn person banging her way up to notoriety as Gamergate is that ok? That's the main thing I get from it. Then it turned to stupid stuff. And I think she's trash for doing what she did (banging for notoriety and that "game" she made).

Nah, nobody really cares about Quinn except the dishonest ppl. She was sleeping with games press, but she was only consequential in that she knew how to play the victim. Her ex did an internet tell-all, which was irresponsible, but a thing of sorts. Some think he was in abusive relationship because of her lying, but thats not exactly relevant. What's relevant is that outside people said "wait she was sleeping with game devs while promoting her game?? (notactuallyagame)" That sparked the questions, and from there they found that her former roommates and yada yada. She didn't fuck for reviews. She just was dishonest and did things for attention. Like playing the victim while going "oh btw I'm a lady game person!" All the meanwhile, various female devs that accomplish things like a Roberta Williams or Jade Raymond get less attention because they weren't playing victim.

When Canadian news misreported this, people contacted the CBC, and the CBC told them that basically "games press lying doesn't sell, but women in peril is a line that people are interested in" So you get women in peril, because (I agree) games press lying isn't of national attention. Lies sell. Look at bluemax. Dumb ass actually bought it.

Personally, I don't get into the GG stuff. I try to avoid that stuff since I find a personal association with gamer culture shameful. I just saw some really bad posts.

If you want my real opinion on you, I used to think you were kind of milquetoast (but I did like Guild Wars 2). Then I left here for a while and you came back and saw you've changed into someone with pretty worrying leanings. I think something must have happened in the interim to make you evolve from a Magikarp to a Gyrados, and it's not a change for the good.

I also think your weird adherence to a right-y stance, similar to Amir0x's grandstanding on libby issues, probably means you're covering for some extremely immoral shit. I bet we see your mugshot in the next decade.

I typo all the time. I don't take particular care in how my internet text looks. This forum doesn't quite reach the bar for having me care about my prose. It's also a test to see whether people care about the typos or the point of what I'm saying. It separates those who base their understanding on assumptions from those that base their understanding on analysis.

There is no worrying leanings with me. If you think that then you have some bigotries within yourself that you haven't recognized. I don't lean to the right. I have the same views, with some views evolved, as will happen with age and experience. I'm still a tree hugging hippie, but I've always had a balance of empathy and critical thinking. There's just no political space for that anymore.

I've also never been milquetoast. You never knew me. The only thing that I have been is quiet and reserved, which allows others of poor character to step in and define me for their benefit.

I respond to Gamergate discussion because I investigated it. At first, I treated it like you did, in that I should be shameful of gamer culture. I then recognized in myself a self-loathing bigotry. What I found out after looking into it was an exploitation of that very bigotry to denounce, dehumanize and silence a group of people who were being critical.

Re: Gamer culture: It's not so much looking down as it is regretting the fact I'm a part of it. As an older person, I regret (sort of) making the decidion to be a part of it. At this point, I'm just a sort of addict, glued to the things I liked a ton two decades ago. I try to stay away from the nitty-gritty forum gaming  culture these days, but this time the scadenfreude of the Amir0x incident pulled me back in. Something seems to pull me back every year or so. It's not a sort of bigotry, it's a sort of expression of self hatred. I'm cool with admitting my flaws.

Barcelona -> Reykjavik -> Los Angeles departed at 1:20 AM. I assumed PM, because a lot of European airports close at like midnight

The problem with this is that it presents the gaming industry as only a PC game landscape. In console games and arcades we had shit like Mortal Kombat. The article uses OMM to present an alternate reality where specific kinds of games of a certain pursuasion were popular in the 90's by using elitist argumentation. Anyone who played games in the 90's knows how  bullshit that quote is, especially in the context of games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.
