Honestly I support free speech but we didn't wave British flags after the revolutionary war. They lost. I don't see any Britons coming to USA and screaming for a new order. For sure. Taken as a whole, Boston is ridiculously diverse, but when you look at the data block-by-block all that diversity melts away into stark segregation. There's incidents like Adam Jones that get headlines, but what people don't read is the aftermath - that Sox fan was banned from Fenway for life, and Jones given a standing ovation on his return. The actual racism appears to me, as someone who hasn't experienced it but who's lived here for five years, to go deeper in a more institutional way than a couple fucktard Sox fans. Not to ignore them but any sense of nuance in the conversation is lost by "lol Boston" posts from people who cherry pick headlines.

Mostly, I'm sick of Boston being a punchline by people who have never lived here and don't have anything to offer than glib self-righteousness that does nothing except spread tribalist city-vs-city attitudes. Racism is a pervasive attitude across the entire country we all have to deal with, as this weekend has shown.

Here in Mexico we have statues of many Revolutionaries that back stabbed each other like a Trump running company. I heard from close cities or regions hating each other because some hero from the Revolution was an bandit ass with one while being a kind of Robin Hood with another one.

What would be a historical equivalent? I mean, it wasn't technically a rebellion, they had no interest in overthrowing the Union, just leaving it.

The monuments in both the North and South are generally for their State "heroes" and were erected during a period in which the States were still emphasized.

After the Franco-Prussian War, the French schools taught that Alsace-Lorraine was occupied, not part of Germany, and would be returned to France.

As part of this too, at some point people get weird about taking down/changing stuff that's just been around for their whole life. Like who's on the money. I mean, who gives a shit who's on the $20 bill, or any of the money, yet you'd think it's the end of the Republic to change it or even release an alternative version.

Really weird. I met some people who seemed pretty cool and went to a nearby bar for a drink.
