Trials of Mana is a great game.

Nintendo Switch in my mind is the best console since the PS2. People who talk about it not having any games is odd to me because I have over 100 games bought for it and there’s a lot of good games I haven’t bought yet because I know I’ll never get around to them.

Agreed- I have more games for the Switch than I have ever owned for any other platform.  Way too many, lol.

But I can also understand their points- a lot of the games the system has are multiplatform releases or ports from the last gen.  If you don't care about being able to play the games on the go, I can see getting most games on another console instead or using something like Gamepass.

The Megadimension Neptunia VII port came out today.  The game has been criticized for having some awful framerate issues- don't know if this was addressed with a patch for the Japanese version, but this review points out that it has some graphics-related settings you can turn off that make it play pretty smoothly for the most part.  Other reviews seem to have missed this.

Panzer Paladin, from the devs behind Mercenary Kings and Flinthook, is out today (also on PC):

They really like that Shovel Knight aesthetic.

Looks fun though.

Is calling a game that sticks to a more accurate color palette "using a Shovel Knight aesthetic" a thing now?

They really like that Shovel Knight aesthetic.

Looks fun though.

It plays nothing like Shovel Knight and the music is really, really good- not entirely "8-bit" and pretty catchy.  The game is kind of like a Mega Man-style action/platformer, but you use melee attacks for everything and have a shield to block projectiles.  The weapons you pick up have different attributes/range and also each have different effects when you destroy them, I.E. health regen, defense up, etc.  You can also sell weapons back to a shop and use them to upgrade your armor.  You can exit the armor at any time and as the pilot, you have a Castlevania-like whip.  She's much weaker and has way less energy, but can get into certain spaces that the armor can't and there's some sections where you use the whip to swing across chasms.  I'm pretty impressed with the game.  Keep getting my ass kicked by the bosses, but I don't mind since it just meant selling weapons back for health increases, lol.

Makes me think every so very slightly of Blaster Master.

So after Alpha Dream now Skip (Developer behind Chibi Robo) is allegedly dead.

I wonder if Camelot can hold out in these conditions, doesn't look like Nintendo is willing to throw a bone to their '2nd party' studios so to speak.

I get what you're saying, but Alpha Dream made games for other publishers too.   The last title they worked on was Mario & Sonic 2020 for Sega.

What has Skip even made for recent platforms?  Not seeing anything they've done besides two Chibi Robo games for 3DS.

So Nintendo's holiday line-up is finally getting into view.

July - Paper Mario
August - Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition LEGO Super Mario
September - DOOM Eternal(?)
October - Pikmin 3 Deluxe
November - Bakugan

They should release a set of GameCube purple Joy Cons to commemorate this drought  8)

I got Pikmin 3 for free on WiiU and that was about the price it is worth even seven years ago. Pikmin 2 felt like the concept fully realized, but 3 they scaled back to the techdemo-level of the first game. It wasn't justified either, as the graphics were middling, excluding some non-interactive background elements. I thought the game would start to get going when I got the final Pikmin type after three or four hours of fetching bridge pieces and doing tutorials, but then it was over an hour later :juicy

In other words, great flagship game to ship fullpriced this holiday :wow

Could've been worse, could've been a port of NES Remix.

Also, the insiders are saying a Nintendo Direct is on the way for sure between August 11 and August 22 but plans can change so don't complain if it doesn't happen  :lucas

I love that Nintendo announced something on the only day those YouTubers and insiders didn't have in their predictions.  :lol

Bought Carrion for $30 from LRG and got an eShop code emailed to me. That's how all these games (especially the indie ones) should do it. If I have to wait four months for my physical copy, at least send me a code so I can already have it played and beat before I get my copy that I will leave sealed.

Controls will be butchered on the Switch though.

I thought the best control scheme was wiimote+nunchuck which is essentially a normal gamepad control scheme? Unless it used the wiimote aiming? I don't remember.

Got mine in too- although nobody needs to rush since it's an open pre-order for a month.  I thought maybe this wasn't a part of LRG's official line, but it's numbered, so it is kind of odd that they didn't do a CE like they tend to for most of their other releases.

Sooooooooo.....is there nothing for Q4 nintendo?
In no particular order they seem to be working on

Confirmed:
Breath of the Wild 2
Metroid Prime 4
Pikmin 3: Deluxe
Detective Pikachu
Pokemon Snap
Bayonetta 3

Heavily rumored:
Mario Remasters
Mario 3D World Deluxe
Mario Sports
Zelda game (possibly a remake or remaster)
Fire Emblem (2nd 3DS remake they were working on after Echoes)
Unknown Monolith Software game
Splatoon 3
Kirby

Rumored:
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Metroid
Donkey Kong spin-off

And then there's the opportunity to asset flip Mario Kart Tour into Mario Kart 9.

Considering BOTW was a launch game, I believe BOTW2 will be the next big release, either this fall or May 2021 or so... or the project has been completely reworked but if that's the case Nintendo would've announced it.
I'm definitely expecting the 3D Mario remasters to be out this holiday too if they exist. Metroid Prime 4 is the big wildcard for me. It could be pretty far along or it could be in development hell all over again.

Considering they want to be sure they can ship what they announce they probably won't confirm their full line-up until September and they could even announce the fall line-up piece by piece on Twitter over the next 2 months.
I wouldn't start to worry about Nintendo's fall line-up being sparse until late September. Nintendo always has their summer holiday leave in August. During the last month a number of studios including HAL Laboraties and IntSys moved to a new building too.
Also look out for September 13th as that is the date of the 35th anniversary of Super Mario.

Nvidia is working on DLSS 2.0 implementation for consoles, so expect news on a Switch Pro or Switch+ within the next 12 months or so as that will open the door to plenty of 3rd party games that could render at 540p and be AI upscaled to 1080p or render at 720p and be AI upscaled to better than native 4k.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Pokemon Snap, and Bravely Default II are the current 'big' Nintendo-published games set to release by the end of the year, IIRC.  Nintendo's site currently lists Snap as TBD though.

There's still enough time for them to announce something else for release at the end of the year.  If not, that's OK too- this system has plenty of third-party support, so it never feels like there's a software drought.  Something that hasn't happened in a long time with a Nintendo console.

I think Zelda is their big holiday game along with the Super Mario Anniversary Collection. Unless due to the circumstances regarding COVID-19 :tophat they can't release two of their main franchises this year.
That means they will probably focus on getting Mario out the door for all the tie in marketing they have going on with other brands and products.

Metroid Prime 4 is a complete mystery it could be nearly finished or it could still be in early stages.
We don't know if rebooting its development meant: "We're taking the story, assets and art and other pre-production and built it again" or "We're starting again from scratch including pre-production".
We also don't know if the team was already assembled when they started or if those vacancies that took 2 to 3 years to fill in at Retro Studios were for their next projects or this game.

Announcing stuff late just seems to be a thing now. We still have no price for PS5, Xbox Series X or even a screenshot of Call of Duty 2020.
